Surface Features - Barnacles/Unknown Structures/Crashed Ships etc...

I am curious if the Barnacle Forest has about the same dimensions as the usual Thargoid Structure?

Unfortunatly I left the Barnacle Forest before I had the idea to comapre both. I used to compare the dimensions of Thargoid Structures with a simpel method to check if they are growing: target the "unknown structure scan", aligne over the center of the structer facing "north" (zero on the compass) and rising 8km up to make a screenshot. Then repeat after several weeks and compare. Like this:

I'd suggest doing this with the forest too, to have comparison. I'll be going checking barnacles in California Nebula now.

The idea of the comparison would be as follows:

This is only an illustration what I mean. There is no actual measuring. But I think it would be interesting to have a comparison with a valid measuring.

im pretty sure the thargoid sites are bigger, im going from memory though, the thargoid site at 18778: A2A seems REALLY big to me..
no reason the little forest cant grow though.
hopefully someone is keeping an eye on it and seeing if new barnacles sprout, or maybe some shell-like or boney structures start to grow, like the thargoid sites have.

personal opinion, thargoid sites are not growing but its plausable to me the forest can grow, to me it feels like the thargoids are feeding it with their beam...thing... gah. aliens.

(also thats my pic of the barnie forest ;) awesome!)

good luck everyone o7

Hello Cmdr Sanchez! I should have credited you for the picture. I have totally forgotten about the credits, with all that excitment.

I also don't believe that the Thargoid Structures grow - at least not in a timeframe we can perceive in months of observation. But maybe the scavangers are constructors... but it's all very much speculation. Also I believe too that the Barnacle Forest will be much smaller in size - but maybe it will fit the inner circle of a structure?

What strikes me odd is the presence of the scavangers and as always the octonal outlay.

There are a lot of similarities between the barnacles the structures and the Thargoid cyclops...

Thx for sharing! Repped you on Inara too : )

Now I am on my way back from California Nebula to the forest.

no worries about crediting me it was just cool to see it here :)
and yes the scavengers and the 8 points are VERY suspect!
the sounds you hear in the center are quite scary, and sound like somethings moving... growing... digesting... they COME FROM BELOW!! *screams*

happy travels

I had similar thoughts to you on the barnacle forest compared to a thargoid site, so I went and measured a site:

The inner ring of "leviathans" are 1km from the centre

The outer ring of "teeth" are 2km from the centre

And the outer "edge" of the US settlement for recalling your ship is 2.95km from the centre:

I don't have a screenshot with the measurements but I believe the outer barnacle of the barnacle forest is only around 1km, not exact, but I can't remember if it was just under or over. So the barnacle forest is about 2km in diameter, and the thargoid site is about 4km diameter.

I don't think there is a capacity for the sites to grow in size, as there is an example which shows the edge of the site cut away :)

Checked last night, all the barnys on Merope 5C have been destroyed.
Not too surprising given the feds ransacked the place, but it is interesting that other as yet undiscovered barnys have been trashed. I guess the Feds are better at finding them then the community :)

Hey guys.

Just in case you are interested: On another investigation (The thargoid data gathering effort) we have confirmed that the NHSS threat level 5 do spawn in systems with thargoid bases, both active or inactive. I still don't know if this is of any importance, but felt you may like to know it.

i have visited 1 crash site with thargoid sensors and visited the thargoid structure at hip 14909 a2, and there were 2 or 3 NHSS spawning at the same time every few hundred meters. but also i think there is an individual cyclops out there, it looks
permanently lit red like it is really angry, it looks like it's hunting or searching for something. first time i seen it with 2 interceptors i was like i am seeing things, but i got hyperdicted by the same thargoid on its own and it just left soon after the pulse no scan or attack just pulse and run.

About what?

Well I'm glad at least someone asked! :)

Here we go, 3 new Thargoid structures were found today.
Details of the new sites are here :

Congrat for all the cmdr for the hunt. Searching and finding nothing is a big result too, so credit is for them too.
And still so many planets to scan....

Congrats on finding the new sites tonio , & thanks for letting me come along to 1 of you're new discoveries, & glad I could help :).

No one interested in Thargoid structures anymore??
I sometimes check the first planet, but without references it strongly depends on luck. Few months ago checked several planets in California nebula and now i'm in Witch head. But the searches requires a lot free time.

I simply did not think there will be more US's so congrats to all who worked on finding the new ones :)
Still more interested to look for Pink Worms, but not sure where to start, so I do a random glide every now and then, no much luck yet.

Ah, well now we know :), pink worms ?? Lol

Sure thing, well not total luck, the moon's have to meet certain criteria, as per my thread, but I didn't mean that ;), I was referring to the point that I linked 3 new TS discoveries and no one had batted an eyelid :p , but maybe I was being impatient ;)

Next time do that: " I found new US, I will check it and let you guys know tomorrow or day after" - then you will see very quick response ;)

I was away till this morning so that is my excuse

Oh?

You have my attention :p

Lol, honest, but just pretend a little & say congrats ;)
Joking aside, a Cannon member thought the scavengers were behaving differently at 1 of the sites, but I don't yet know the outcome of that, I've only visited 1 of the sites myself (the discover invited me to join him on it's 1st visit), didn't see anything significantly different, other than it was very hard to see it until you got quite low as it was in a partially darkened area. I'm otherwise not aware of any major differences atm.

:D, posted on the previous page, but direct linky

Yeah maybe, but I wasn't the discover, although I had a helping hand in it somewhat with my candidate list, & the fact I had actually searched 1 of the moons in a TS system!, but not yet the other 4, lol. (Pleiades GW-W D1-54), the TS is at 2c, I had searched 3a!
And neither of us knew he was going to find 1 leading to the other 2 that day ;).
No worries about the morning, I was just surprised that no one had answered.

Oh I do congratulate you on finding them, that is cool, nice job.

I just don't really care about identical stuff :) Sorry!

What I am WAY more curious about, is if you found any listening posts, or news articles, or other in game stuff, which lead you to them, because that's the stuff I enjoy, following the in game clues, which actually seem to exist sometimes now!

So if you ever find stuff via a means that isn't eyeballing entire planets.... I'm all ears on those.
