With 3.3 I set up joystick axis controls for FSS/DSS so I wouldn't keep having to switch between KBM and stick soo often while exploring. It actually worked so well that I revisited the thought of using my stick for navigation as well and... it didn't turn out any where near as good.
Since both GalMap and SysMap are tied to the same controls (listed as GM), if I set them up for best use in the galaxy map (as I would with it being listed as GM controls), then I end up using [what feels like] wrong axis for movement (aka "Translation" in GM bindings) in the classic 2D SM.
I can understand why it started this way since [left, right, up, down] is moving around the map it isn't considered rotation but translation. On a 2D map those 3D translation controls do not feel natural even though angling is "rotation" (which is a 3D thing and therefore disabled on a 2D object).
However, since orrery is 3D, I can default back to the galaxy map controls without issue.
Thus, I have the suggestion that the system map needs its own control bindings for each mode of sysmap: classic 2D map or orrery. And I definitely have no problem with a default option of "Mimic Galaxy controls."
