T16000m throttle - Full or Half range?

Half/Mid range option here.

You get used to it very quickly, and you can set a decent dead zone in the middle using Elite. I have mine set to 0.11
<ThrottleAxis>
<Binding Device="068EC010" Key="Joy_ZAxis" />
<Inverted Value="1" />
<Deadzone Value="0.11000000" />
</ThrottleAxis>

Its really easy to muscle learn where the dead zone is.

Full range + reverse button (the small one on the front left) for the ship, half range for the SRV (with the same button for the handbrake, useful in particular if you fail to hit the deadzone). Makes driving around the Guardian structures with the Sentinels around much easier, and in VR, you can't see the throttle at all.

Ah, SRV I use wheel and pedals, so not an issue for me there.

I see lots of people favouring the button approach, certainly food for thought.

Is there a way to use a toggle also for the right stick?
I use it mainly to control roll and pitch (like everyone of course), but when I land I would like a toggle to use it to control lateral and vertical thrusters instead.

Should be doable via alternate flight controls, there is a setting for lateral & vertical thrust axis there too. Never tried that, though.

ps: get ready for having to re-grease that throttle every couple months...
Or do it once with a proper one like Nyogel 767A and you'll do it once every 2 years or so, and you'll absolutely love what it does to the motion of the throttle.

To the OP, I do full range with an invert button. Love having that much control, but it did take a month or so to remap my muscle memory effectively.

Extra bonus: the analog paddle on the back of the throttle makes for an excellent steering control for the truck sims.

I messed around a long time with my throttle. I even modded it to have a 'center detent' kind of thing, with some velcro. It worked just fine, but in the end I decided I just don't like using a throttle. So it sits in the corner unused, with the expensive grease I put on it also gathering dust.

I guess that's not helpful, lol.

Oh, this takes me back....

I spent weeks testing out the alternative throttle modes before settling on full-range.

Main thing was, obviously, the lack of a positive central all-stop position, which is actually more of a nuisance in the SRV than in ships.
Also, I didn't like sacrificing "resolution" in throttle control. No idea if that really is the case but if I can have a control with a larger "throw", I'll usually choose that to provide more accuracy.

I was a bit concerned that using full-range throttle would mean no ability to apply reverse thrust to slow down quickly.
Thing is, with FA-on, your retro-thrusters do fire anyway.
IIRC, you do stop a bit quicker if you manually apply retro-thrusters but you should have a momentary thrust control set that allows you to do that without swapping to "reverse gear".

Again, if you're a big SRV user, it's worth considering how this might work in the SRV too.
It might be worth considering half-range in order to have active-braking available in the SRV.
Personally, I just dab the "handbrake" to provide maximum braking when I need it.

Main thing that guided my choice of throttle was that I set up good momentary thrust controls first.
I have left/right/up/down momentary thrust on my joystick and backward/forward momentary thrust on my throttle.
With that in place, I used to have the forward/reverse toggle control on my throttle but I ended-up re-binding that as my silent-running control 'cos I never used it.
Now I just don't have any control bound to select forward/reverse gear cos it's just not a control I ever need to use.

Try it. See what you like.

Personally with mine I keep hitting the slider unintentionally while mining. I would inevitably bump it off center and originally I couldn't assign a dead zone.

But without a detent you need a hefty dead zone to still have a reliable zero.

I use full range ahead with a strong cure for even more precission at low speeds
And I use the leftmost button as 'full reverse' which covers 95% of my reversing needs (overshoot landigpad by 5m--> hold button for a second).
I use 'shift' and the same button to switch in reverse gear in case I want to fly more sophisticated backwards manouvers ('shift' is a modifier button on the stick, I also use this to switch between 'hold FA-Off' and 'switch FA-Off ).
I've also have glued a 'center rest' on the side of my throttle. Actually its a '6s rest'. Very handy for SC-approach.

I use a hand controller for srvs. Never could drive the thing with a joystick throttle.

When I first started paying attention to driving the SRV, I set it up so I was using the throttle and pedals to steer it.
That felt kind of weird but I got used to it.

When I really started to understand what driving the SRV was all about, though, I realised it's all about being able to control the SRV while you're also controlling the turret.
That is when you really reap the rewards of learning to drive the SRV with throttle and pedals 'cos it means you can control the turret (and thrusters) with a joystick all at the same time.

I have tried both, but "forward only" worked best for me. I have been using that setup for so long, that I got used to it.
The mini stick is used for alternate control of ship. However, I did test using an LED to set the dead zone of the throttle. It worked but I found that it wasn't the right thing for me, since I have been playing DCS & FlightGear for so long that somehow I got stuck with that type of setup.

I do find the stick a little slippery when playing for too long, fixed that with self-amalgamating tape..
