I'll miss you, Jackie, and will open a bottle of Lavian brandy in your honour. I'm still torn about the whole change but have yet to decide about it. Once I finally sort out the key bindings on the HOTAS and also adjust to the VR aspects, I will sink some dedicated time into testing the new discovery mechanics (I won't call them exploration mechanics as I don't think they are) before deciding to follow you or not.

Oddly, I suspect that the current advocates who seem to have swayed the conversation, will likely not prove to have the perseverance of many of the career explorers that ED will be losing and that 3 months after launch in the live game, ED will find that a only small fraction will carry on.

The final outcome may turn out to be that ED may have actually killed exploration rather than having "improved" it.

I seriously doubt that. There are a lot of "career explorers" who actually see the good in the new system. Also we just don't know yet the amount of new things we can discover, as Q4 is not just a change of system. It is really sad so see nice people like Jackie go. But that does not mean the end of the exploration community. There was a thread in this very sub-forum a year ago where a huge amount of explorers made suggestions how to improve exploration. If I remember correctly the vast majority of them was proposing changes that go into the direction FD has taken now.

[haha][haha] One of the most pathetic posts I read !!

What an ego !

How that comment has anything to do with my ego?
If you dont know the story behind it, then its better to be quiet..

I had the honor spending a year with Jackie, circumnavigating the galaxy and trust me when i say that theres no bigger Jackie fanboy than me.
Therefore its also my right to express my disappointment in her decision.
We dont all roll with the "sorry to see you go" clichee, its also ok to express anger and disappointment, especially when the person was really important and inspiring character in your exploration career.

Thats all im going to comment about that.

Yeah... Well, the FD story-tellers (MB, DW) are no longer here... I wouldn't bet it will be quite exciting. Just as boring as the game has been since they left/were put aside.
But let's just wait and see...again.

I have found much new stuff, and some stuff that would have been impossible to find under the old system, I like the new mechanic and the new content, but there are inevitably going to be players who are so invested in the old system they find it difficult or impossible to adapt, that's a pity. As I said in another thread, I personally think the old honk and system reveal was a big mistake when it was introduced simply because it got people used to an easy mechanic. Sure something was needed to replace the old paralax planet hunting, but honk and reveal just set FDEV up for this rather sad result when they introduced some sort of new mechanic to replace it. Maybe they will make some adjustments that will help by the end of the beta, so please stay around till then before making a final decision.

But still, sad to see some of the great explorers making plans to leave, good luck with wherever you go friends, we may not have bumped into each other in the black or had our names on our mutual friends list but I trust I can call you that, after all we are all friends in the black.

I would not take it personally, at this stage I honestly think it's difficult to say whether it's better or worse.

It's clearly different.

The focus of exploration is different.

Like, if my partner suddenly decided that all sex we had from now on was going to be entirely focused on stroking each other's feet and nothing else, sure, it'd be different, but like, I can't get an orgasm from that, and don't really find it engaging, so expect me to lose interest and probably start looking for someone else.

Anger and disappointment are totally acceptable however, D-baggery isn't especially when is comes to someone who was a " really important and inspiring character in your exploration career". You have the right to disagree with her decision but there's no need for disrespecting her outright on a public forum with a "good riddance" B.S. comment like that.

To make things clear, there was absolutely no disrespect in that comment. I have nothing but sincere respect towards Jackie and she knows that.

That's all.

EDIT: I feel i also have to add that in my language "good riddance" doesnt mean that you are glad to get rid of someone. That is definitely not the case here, im far from glad Jackie is gone.

I must say, after reading some of the entries in the Codex, that I liked the texts and how they are written. So they might still have some lore people who can write. I haven't given up hope. After the codex is fully available I think it will be loads of fun searching for rumoured things.

I'm disheartened to see you go, Jackie. I hope it's just some temporary exploration-fatigue what with the new system and all, and that you can find some inspiration again after some time off.

Sorry to see you go Jackie.

I'm hoping FD will make some small changes like allowing FSS while moving and charging FSD while in FSS.

I'm unsure myself what I would find a good system. New system is definitely different and I'm ok with it, excluding the above. Time will tell.

I was originally against having the two systems running in parallel but now I've played the beta. I really wouldn't have a problem with it. New system is faster and better for an in depth look at system. Old system allowed you to decide whether to invest that time quickly.

Ah, it'll be one of those language/culture differences?

"Good riddance" in English-speaking countries is a nasty phrase meaning you're glad they're going away. Maybe better to edit that earlier post by adding an explanation of what you really meant, as people new to this thread reading that post will raise an eyebrow.

Also, yeah Jackie, sad to see you go - hope you return some day o7

It deeply saddens me to see so many prominent names in the exploration community saying that they will be departing. I hate to say it, but in a way it was inevitable. The reason is simple-- People have been exploring using the game's current (non-)mechanics, and got used to doing things a certain way, and perhaps enjoyed it specifically because of the way it has worked. Otherwise they wouldn't still be doing it. The new mechanics are pulling the rug out from under long-time players. And if you have any attachment to the old system, that can truly suck. I understand what that's like, from other games I've played (Star Wars Galaxies rings a bell).

Personally, I was starting to get rather bored with the lack of exploration content, to the point that I'm starting to fall asleep during hyperjumps. But the thing that has kept me going is the beauty of space. No other game lets me explore a semi-realistic galaxy in an immersive way. So I'm mentally in a place where I'm ready to adapt to the changes. But I totally understand why others don't want to.

This pretty much echoes my sentiments here. When i saw the livestream, I was excited. When I first tried it in the beta, I hated it. I've now had more time to get to grips with it and sort out my bindings properly, and it's growing on me. There are still issues and annoyances but I'm hoping they can be smoothed out and addressed before or after release. Currently I'm cautiously optimistic about the changes.
To those who are decrying the obfuscation and the taking away of information we used to get for free, I totally understand where you're coming from, but I have to say it should never have been like that in the first place, and it's criminal that it has been that way for so long. The ADS honk revealing all was always way overpowered and should have been squashed long before people got used to it. The way I see it, these changes are long overdue.

Thank you for your contributions to the exploration community, Jackie. It wouldn't be what it is today without people like you. I truly hope you and others like you will reconsider, and at least try the live product once it's in, or perhaps try it some time down the line when it's become more refined. If not though, then all the best for the future.

Yup. Realized it afterwards and explanation added now. Direct translation can be said also in positive meaning in Finnish. :)
In Finnish we also have multiple meanings for lots of phrases and sayings, so not the easiest of languages to get translated correctly..

EDIT: I have never actually thought that "good riddance" is a negative phrase, since there is "good" in that phrase.. :D

Wow! You took the words right out of my head.

Sorry to see you go, Jackie. I shall miss seeing your marker on the Gal Map and playing “Where the hell is Jackie this week”

o7 Fly safe, whatever you’re flying.
