tl;dr - Taking some time out from ED until it's fixed (hopefully). Will be back in six months (maybe). No stuffz to haz (probably). Going to play No Mans Sky (definitely).

Folks. I've been following the progress of EDO since the "new era" days of yore, via the death and resurrection of GalNet, through the teasers and trailers, through the Alpha and onto the launch. It's been a ride of a few highs, many lows and then what currently seems to be a slow and painful climb out of the abyss.
Prior to the Odyssey launched I'd picked up a free copy of EDH from the Epic giveaway with a view to using it to explore the 'new player experience'. I thought that was pretty good actually and it then morphed into a role playing in-game story line called "Elite: Retribution" (watch here if interested). That was mostly done to have "something to do" whilst we waited for EDO. I fully expected to start planning 'season 2' with my in-game collaborators shortly after the launch of EDO.
Well, we all know what happened.
In-game events, expeditions and so on rely on a stable game and a playerbase that isn't fractured by technical divisions and versions of software. I tried to embrace combat, trade, exploration, PVP and PVE in our in-game shenanigans. The biggest hiccup with EDH was instancing, but we learnt to work around that. Yes there were some bugs, but we knew about most of them and we could cater for the foibles.
EDO simply isn't stable enough for this sort of play yet. Many of the community haven't bought it yet (and who can blame them?). Console players are locked out for the foreseeable future and those that do have the game have performance, stability and many other issues. We're at Patch 5 now and, whilst it's getting noticeably better, it's just not there right now. I completely get why DW3 is on indefinite hold (and I was looking forward to contributing some narrative to that too). I really hoped the game would be good enough by now, but it simply isn't and I'm out of patience.
So, I'm taking a break from the game hoping it will be fixed over the next half year or so. I fully intend to come back, but only when we have a version that is sufficiently polished and stable to act as a base for player led storytelling and in-game events. Once there's firm date for the console release I'll start doing some planning, but until then I'm hanging up the Remlok and packing the HOTAS away, though there will be a few more lore videos coming.
I made arrangements for my Stuffz to be vacuum sealed at my home station of "Mad J Wagars" in the Eulexia system and would just like to let @Bottom Hat know that he has first dibs on them in the event I don't return for whatever reason.
A pleasure as always and, of course... Right on, Commanders. o7.
Cheers,
Drew.
