Yeah, I know where you are coming from. I packed my flight stick away after FDev released the long-anticipated roadmap that was little more than "many improvements and fixes" Cntl-C'd throughout the document. That was the surest sign that FDev had dug themselves so deeply into a coding hole that even they couldn't plan with any concrete specificity. With the subsequent
posting of the so-called "Development Update," it became even more clear to me that they are stuck in first gear
at best. Now, Patch 5 has been released and while it does fix a bunch of stuff, it is also clear that much more remains to be addressed, something that might not happen until console release.
I was thinking about just playing Horizons, but I have trouble investing myself into a game that itself is facing a deadline for transformation into Odyssey tech. Seeing FDev's long history of having trouble rolling out even minor updates - remember the Arx fiasco? - I shudder to think what will become of Horizons when it is injected with Odyssey's planetary tech. Yeah, that should go smoothly....
Time to find greener pastures for me, too. Like you, I fully intend to come back to Elite if/when Odyssey is ready for primetime which, for the moment, is a nebulous date at best (the frequent mention of " identifying pathways" in the Dev update doesn't inspire confidence). However, at the moment the game is dead in the water and listing to port, and I am abandoning ship along with lots of other people. If Frontier can save the ship - great (and I suspect they eventually will as they invested too much into this franchise to give up now)! But I am not hanging around to find out. Today, we have compelling alternatives, from Hello Games'
No Man's Sky (which has routinely embarrassed FDev by putting out high-quality content expansions much more frequently than Frontier has ever managed to achieve despite Frontier having a larger team) to revitalized old dogs like CCP's
Eve Online (Eve remains the most in-depth space sandbox ever made, so space gamers shouldn't let the oft over-exaggerated stories of gankers everywhere scare them off from trying the game!). In short, Frontier no longer has a captive audience.
The weird part is that I intend to remain active on these forums. While FDev has screwed up the game, Frontier's forums remain one of my favorite communities on the web. Maybe it is because it skews towards an, er, older demographic.

Be that as it may, I am still going to visit here often, albeit I will probably be spotted in this sub-forum more than in the main Elite forum. Ironic that I will now be talking more about other space games here than I will be about Elite for the foreseeable future!

Oh, what an unnecessary tragedy, Frontier....
