Taranis Enters Meltdown

You do know there are 7 more of them you can go help with right now, don't you?

Sure, but if they too get taken down during the week, when I cannot play, that's no good to me - or others who just get the chance to play at weekends. Now, I'm sure I could go fly to the next one NOW, I mean, I assume the same gameplay loop applies, but I'm running out of time now. Basically, with the speed the last one was taken down, there's limited time to engage in this.

no other titan will go down as easy as taranis did. this will be months of effort...

"extreme" is an underestimated term, CS fill really quickly... will be hard to do Titan autopsy.
We would like to thank you for bringing what's left of the alien body to us for autopsy. We have conducted a thorough examination of what's left, and our conclusion is this:

Death was caused by the creature getting blown up real good.

Have a nice day.

They don’t, but Frontier saw the focus on Taranis and decided to encourage players to keep doing that.

(The other Titans will be more difficult - Leigong will require a little trimming first before it will likely be assaulted, or at least players are probably going to prefer doing that before hitting it. Beyond that, even Oya will require at least a week or two to get to a stage where it can be feasibly assaulted… well, without taking an extreme effort that makes Taranis’ assault look like a drop in the ocean.)
My queen, we have analyzed their attack and there is a danger. Shall I have your shuttle standing by?

Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances.

Oh, I missed that tidbit of information, that's good. I suppose FDev don't have to obey the numbers when it comes to actual damage dealt by players, they can prolong things if need be.

Does anyone know if much progress has been made on another Titan yet? Are we expected to engage them in a specific order or anything like that? Not had time to play since that session yesterday evening.

LeGong (not spelt correctly, but whatever...) has had its outer ring nibbled by some players already - am heading thataway tomorrow morning.

Sounds...uncomfortable... lol.

Will check out that one when I next get a chance. Might move the FC a little closer this time... Still need to sort my build though, as the Mamba I used wasn't fit for combat. It also has a very thin hull - despite G5 reinforcement - judging by how quickly it got eaten away in the few seconds it took to eject the Caustic Sinks...

Lots of HRPs are your friend - forget shields, gives more power headroom to go low emissions too!

I do have HRP's, however, I don't think any of them are Engineered. Didn't want to add too much additional mass, as the Mamba does over 600 in its current config, which enabled me to easily get away from anything I didn't want to fight...which was everything lol. I had a Prismatic Shield in storage of the right size, so I used that. It wasn't a particularly well thought-out build, just what I had and what I could throw together so get to the event with a decent survival chance.

If you can get the HRP's engineered - heavy duty with deep plating exp. helps absorb a lot as Tharg shots go straight through our sheilds.
That's another thing, although it sounds counter-intuitive, remove the Sheild Generator and any sheild cell banks for more HRP/MRP and go sheildless!
It is the way (apparently), as shots go straight through to the hull and HRP's strengthen you Hull, so you can stay in there longer.

They really DON’T. Yes, AXI recommends shieldless for general AX because it makes the ship’s hitbox larger and damage phases through(and restricts the use of silent running to do things like burn off caustic), but it’s only by about 10% as I understand it. And a few stray shots or salvos hitting that shield will still do significantly less damage than if you’d been hit directly on the hull by them.

Having said that, given the restricted amount of internal slots for medium ships, I generally wouldn’t go with a shield on them for AX, or most Thargoid research, but your mileage may still vary. Large ones get better use out of a prismo which provides a much larger hitpoint buffer than one HRP would in that slot, and they have the utilities to slap on a few shield boosters too. Thargons are really the main annoying thing for shielded builds whereas they are largely inconsequential for shieldless when they are not in missile mode.

My understanding of a typical shieldless build is that they run cold and rely on not being detected and rarely getting hit above tanking due to high armour. Is that wrong? I have, inexpertly, tinkered with shieldless builds in the past, but thought I took a lot more damage? Also, Thargoid damage is absolute right, so resistances on shields or hull make no difference.

In my AX Support Anaconda build, I had great hull, great shields - Prismatic, pure shield health, no augmented resistances - and it was a VERY survivable build. Shields seemed to ensure that not too much damage got to the hull and, if shields went down, I could still tank for a bit. I had repair limpets and AFM so could repair hull and modules as needed. Also had anti-caustic limpets. Only issue with the build was that limpets would die the instant the ship took fire, so I had to escape to repair - not so easy in a slow ship. Still, it was designed to work as part of a team, allowing other ships to focus more on the killing part with less compromises. Ended up never using it in that role as regular wingmate had zero interest in Thargoid stuff.

Medium ships do seem to be lacking the space for all the things I'd think I'd need. However, I understand they're considered the METa for AX work. I did really quite like using the Anaconda build I did, but it was just way too slow to work solo. I thought it'd hold its own with AX NPC's in the instance too, but they would ALWAYS bug out seconds after I arrived in an instance when I was doing regular Thargoid stuff prior to the Titans.

They have both high-ish hull and aim to avoid being hit by as much damage as is possible.

What about the cold thing? In regular combat vs. NPC's, being cold makes all but the ship you're actively shooting have a harder time hitting you. I did do a super-cold ship build for regular combat once - before the Thargoid stuff was a thing - and it felt like it was too compromised. It didn't get hit much, but was a bit slower due to the low-emissions stuff, and a bit lighter hitting too. Didn't really like flying it, after quite a significant amount of effort getting it as cold as possible.

One day after, I revisited the site, looking for traces. And lo!, it looked like this:

Mind the 'cross', it was not there yesterday. Epic.

The tides are turning. Thank you, Frontier!

And the same goes out to every single individual - you, even! - who made this experience come into existence.

Remembering the pale underdog boy, who by chance got put a cassette into his hand, on a long forgotten school yard, decades ago, with a click-frog Competition Pro as the only resemblance of flight controls. But whose imagination always beat reality afterwards.

Thank you!

O7,
🙃
