Targeting sub-systems preference - left pane or key bind?

Made a macro on my warthog stick hat that cycles 6 backwards or 6 forwards automatically. Depending on ship type I can then use two key presses to target either drives or pp.

Bound to my HOTAS stick as next/previous subsystem.

Can't be browsing through panels to find it. Takes too long and lose sight of target.

A better question is... is there any point targeting any other subsystem than power plant? (unless you are a pirate / griefer, then I guess thrusts or FSD is your target... or just the hatch right off the bat).

If your intent is killing the enemy... then it seems to me that even being able to target other sub systems is a waste of time.

I use both depending on the target.

if the target isn't shooting at me I go through the menu and check the bounty size on my way. If the target is shooting I use the rocker switch on the rear of the throttle.

key 6 or 7 "previous" for most ships!! I know some pees have VA commands for various ships - "conda pwer plant" etc

I have the cycle buttons mapped on my joystick and keyboard allowing me to use either depending on situation.

Be nice to have a feature like this.
When you have a ship targeted, you can select a button, which then displays a subsystem on the target reticule/hud, which by using other buttons/axis can be cycled through.
This way you always have eyes on target.

Also a question, do missiles target a subsystem, if it's set.
thinking of pack hound missile barrage here.

I just click the designated joystick button (previous subsystem is mapped cause it's fewer clicks if you use it reversed) 5 or 6 times (my thumb remembers but I don't) and have shift +same button to go the opposite direction. Works faster then scrolling the left hand list for me. I can also do it while kill warrant scanning and fighting without loosing line of sight when using a button.
At first I always used the list cause it seemed faster but now I'm in more high phased battles and have gotten used to the button clicking method.

What subsystems do people target? I always go for the power plant which is always after the drives so it takes 2 seconds to get to it.

Key bind. I think default is 'Y' for targeting subsystems, I've added up 'T' as previous subsystem target, since I've always overhit that power plant :D

If you are chasing a bigger ship, you want to shoot out the drives first to stop it from entering hyperspace or supercruise.

Hat on X52 pro. So I can step through/back subsystems without loosing sight of my target.

Wen wi sayin 'target sub system', wı really be meanin 'target power plant asap'? :D

Not always. I often target FSD to stop opponent escaping, then go for power plant. Pirates often target cargo hatch etc.

Gud point!

Dem needin to sort internal targetin - hittin dem aal angles, armor be notin an aal dat - till wi be makin it easier to hit sub systems.

It is an issue, and i wonder, why the subsystem list isn't standardized at all.

Power Plant is almost always the same number of key presses, I've found. I have all my targeting set up on Q,W,E,A,S,D with F being highest threat along with 'target ahead' on my joystick. Flicking through screens while maneuvering is annoying.

Mine is bound to the mouse wheel, which I find is really easy, individual key binds would be nice though, but yeah.

Snap. I did have it bound to a key (I use M&K) but tried putting it on mouse wheel and have never looked back. It's so quick.

I want to use voice to target sub systems.

COMPUTER! Target life support!!!

Ais at least, almost always have the same modules in the same positions. You can therefore predict what position each module will be in any type of ship. So you can use voice attack to 'target life support on Viper' and have it step through subsystems the relevant amount.
