There is no test server.
You won't get access into any of the beta tests unless FD change their policy.
Why?
Because FD decided that only those who paid for Alpha and Beta development phases before release will have access to any future beta builds. It's usually only for a week to allow testing to occur.
If you chose to not be part of the Alpha or Beta phases, or you had no opportunity, or you missed the opportunity, then I'm afraid you're out of luck.
It's justified in any way they choose. They' don't need your approval for their policy decisions. That kind of policy works and is justified PRE-launch, not in the Post-launch/Live world.
No I don't. Not properly. But define properly.and as an aside, Do you really think a WEEK is enough time to properly test a patch??

Good point. It might be longer.
I doubt it in this case as I've not seen any showstoppers yet. That said, I've not tested everything. Far from it in fact.
Why haven't you tested everything or even most?

And it's working now. Post launch.

It allows the devs to get a damn good handle on the issues and get the bulk of the work out the way pronto.
There have already been two updates and a list of fixes that's considerably longer than my arm. You will benefit from all of our input and the dev's hard work when the next update is released.
I guess because we don't have an expert tester like you to inspire usLook mate, theirs a lot to test, in different combinations. The main stuff is working well, but i'm sure we will pick up any issues before release. The beta forum is active, many people bouncing ideas back and forth.
Define working. We had a showstopper bug reach live, and then it took them almost 4 patches to fix it. and these were hot fixes and patches done on the production server, while they did fix things, and didn't seem to create any issues. That is more luck then anything.
Because it could have very easily went the other way and made things worse, now thank god it didn't but I hope you can see how it could have easily went that way.
I will applause FD for this, they do seem johnny on the spot with the patches, and I love them for that. But with a proper test environment, it could of been avoided entirely, and certainly they wouldn't of had to process all those refunds for people, which you KNOW took some dev time to process. Dev time taken from something else. Sure maybe not alot but some.

No it's because to test the end game stuff, requires that your either a Alpha and Beta backer, or have huge sums of cash to test on live.
There's the Beta Servers and then there's the actual Test environments.
The Beta Servers are exclusive to Backers/Beta-Testers, unless they need more people and open it up for others. I guess that'll happen once in a while.
The Test environments in the Galaxy are Admin/Developer only - you or I will never ever get access to these and those that have access are likely under a strict NDA.
With such short Beta-Phases, I'm fairly confident they can't smash all Bugs anyway - only show-stoppers and easy-fixes are being treated; the rest falls in queue for the following minor updates.
It didn't take any dev time to process refunds because it's not the programmers doing it. Braben doesn't do it all you know. In fact I doubt he programmed any of this version.
stop being facetious, you know EXACTLY what i'm talking about, I'm talking about a proper test server. Not the dev internals servers
rather, I HOPE you know what I'm talking about. I would think after 5 pages it would be understood.

yes it did, someone or several someones has to stop what they were doing to put those refunds out, properly. That and tickets to support. It took extra time. Not much mind you, but yes it did.
I would like to know if or any access to the Test Server is ever going to made public, or in the fundraising sense, are they ever be sold as a "Game Extra" in the store.

Currently beta testing will be available for those who already have beta access for the main game. For players participating in the beta tests there will be a separate mechanism for playing so testing does not affect your game and that you can continue to play the retail version as well. Options for players currently without beta access to be able to purchase beta access will be available. Details will be made available nearer the time.
