Thargoid Challenge Level

Is anyone honestly expecting to see Thargoids on Day 1? I honestly feel this is going to be another tease and draw things out until next year situation.. Great if it isn't, but from past experience, forgive me if I'm a little dubious.

I'm with you on this. Maybe a Galnet article...maybe a mission pops up to do something....but I don't think it's Thargoids on the beach in Normandy come tomorrow morning.

Would be nice if the attacked stations right, that would be awesome.

They were fun, you couldn't outgun them but you could outfly them. It was actually fairly edgy as far as npc combat goes knowing that if you screwed up and they put one of those salvoes into you it was probably game over.

I wouldn't have minded them staying in the game as extremely rare spawns were it not for the fact that they completely ignored some key game mechanics due to being a bug, the most obvious one being that they didn't just spontaneously combust halfway through firing one of those volleys.

I don't disagree...I just don't think it will happen.

I'm sore afraid that there's going to be a lot of hype and 2.4 just isn't going to stand up to it. As I'm based out of Colonia, I'll be seeing most of it happen here or on YouTube (looking at you CMDR's Ant & Pew), I suspect...but maybe I'm wrong. The entire narrative to this point has been that we're to become a "meat shield" between two warring versions of Thargoids. If that's so, then galaxy-wide random aggression doesn't make sense. I'd expect more of a pincer movement focused around existing Thargoid evidence of presence and activity.

I like them too, but hey I also like the smell of rubber and other weird things :D

that was a joke....or was it???

When fighting Thargoids .. You die the iron way...
Thargoids dont believe in leaving behind escape pods... for that matter i imagine they have a special dislike of both the pilots federation and the dark wheel and as such will sneak attack and destroy shinrata dezhra first.:D

I posted something similar but it got killed because I phrased the post in a way that apparently upset people.

Version 2

FDEV, for the average PVP skill level player. How much of a challenge can we except the Thargoids to be?

Will there be any way to rank up their difficulty, should we find them a walk over. Without having to self nerf our ship builds?

I suspect with the Thargoids Frontier will utilise some RPG tricks in the way of resistance buffs to general weapons whilst utilising weapons that have a natural damage buff to player technology.

And then they seed the game with new 'epix lewt' to obtain that have their own buffs that counteract the resistance buffs and give players increased resistances.

AI and behaviour wise, I expect Thargoids to exhibit the combat prowess of a potato that has just woken up on a Monday morning and hasn't had any coffee yet.

You even manage to make pve posts somehow about pvp.

While I respect the skill of many pvpers, and even some griefers, they are far from the only good combat pilots playing elite.

I want to have to work out their tactics, I don't want there to be an 'I win' weapon or loadout.

I agree. I think I'm going to stay off social media and try to figure it out myself.

With a massively anticipated piece of content such as thargoids, I expect Frontier will want players at all level of progression to be able to get involved. At the same time, I'm sure they still want thargoids to present a challenge to "late game" players with experience and high end combat ships.

What that says to me is that thargoid strength will scale over at least as much of a range as "human" NPCs do. Different regions of space could have varying levels of thargoid activity, so in one place you'll encounter small thargoid scouts a newer player in an unengineered Cobra can take down, while wings of engineered FDLs and Cutters would fear to tread in another system. Or it could simply scale the thargoids you encounter based on your combat rank and current ship, but that seems less interesting to me.

MoM said she's happy...

...

:O

As I said with my first post: Game over man, game over.

Worst part: she gave me rep on that post

You know...I know you (probably) mean that in jest, but I like that idea! Suddenly, the more heavily Engineered your ship, the more vulnerable you are!

Would make engineers obsolete, dout that will happen when its an instant but an extremely time wasted fix by removing mods, imagine the uproar,cg atm makes it pretty clear It'll be the other way around imo

How should the Dev's know what you define as 'walk over' or as a 'challenge'???

Oh, you'll see... ;) Hehehe...

From the video where the Thargoid is engaged, 1 counter-measure and 2 fire everything, not just 1 fire everything, should do the trick? Although I wouldn't sit and wait to fire the counter measure...
