Hmmm … new stuff … looks kinda cool, been away from AX stuff since a couple of mates started playing so been helping ‘em get started.

New Thargoid variant sure seemed fond of the ol‘ caustic missiles … that trip into the maelstrom to collect stuff for the caustic sink launcher is looking pretty mandatory right now …

When it comes to combat, all people want out of Thargoids is Starship Troopers. That's it. What's so unrealistic about that?

Nothing, if you know that's what everyone wants? You think no one will just complain they've ripped off Starship Troopers and lack imagination?

They're not doing actual Thargoids because they're worried about "expectations" (an excuse i am sick to death of across various media), they're not doing Thargoids because they're incapable of animating fast moving insectoid aliens.

That's not why I've said they're not doing it, it's simply my opinion that a large proportion of those who have been waiting will be disappointed because it won't live up to their expectations. I base this opinion on 9 years of watching this place moan about literally anything and everything

I am glad you at least have inside knowledge and know why they're not actually doing them though.

I've made fun of FDevs attempts in building hype for new content in the past ("we're very excited but we can't tell you anything yet!"), but I think engaging with content creators with teasers this time is a step in the right direction.

I think this has been their MO for a couple of updates now. Almost no info until a couple of days before the update CCs and media get a sneak peek to report on.

Frontier have gone from a state of excitement to streaming about the update 10 days after release (unless something comes up). Sally seems to be making quite a few posts on the forum that are locked on posting.

Looks like yet another communication plan has been put into operation.

Nope, no surprise at all.

Just like those comments themselves are no surprise either, based on how Frontier have handled Elite these last couple of years.

There's an auto-moan button in the forum settings that defaults to ON. They should have fixed that years ago.

Personally, I suspect huge swarms of on-foot Thargoids would probably do scary things to any path-finding algorithms, but I'd probably prefer gameplay where you sneak around dark settlements wondering if they're going to pop out of cupboards to some sort of bullet-hell craziness.

Nobody take notice about the fact that they confirmed that the Thargoidsstructures are crashed hive ships ? So we already knew in which way the maelstrom looks inside. Or perhaps the maelstrom’s are some behemoths like the capital class ships

Lets see the update in all its glory before going 'naw dont like it'

But then I actually had fun yesterday trying to collect the material for a caustic sink thing
Attempt 1: tried to get my armored 'vette close enough to a generator to get a scan..... then remembered about being cold....... got the scan .. got the limpet on it at which point another commander drops in... goes straight for the center of the cloud and sets off the pulse.....
Attempt 2: a thargoid baslisk turns up and tears me a new one just as my limpet makes the return...
Attempt 3: Success.... then try to do the 2 jumps back to the carrier with 20% hull.....Interdicted by a bug and blown up
Attempt 4 : goto bed in a temper
