Thargoid Interactions

480 m/s would be cutting it very fine even with the Interceptors, but interesting to know that these newer ones are faster!. Was it much faster than you? Or only just?

No, it was before the Goid structures had been found; seem to remember some people reported hearing the sound also at places during SC

So which planets are they on then?? ;)

Just had another encounter that turned very strange

I managed to get 3-4km away by FA off boost turn, then running straight at it (i like playing chicken) , then swerving away slightly and boosting away again...... but never made it to the magical 5km to engage SC, so had to hi-wake out

Then got hyper-interdicted... by 2 grey coloured thargoids... both scanned me, but only one jumped away.... and the other started following me about... then would stop about 500 m away
I tried dropping meta alloys an escape pod and a thargoid scanner that I just happened to have on board .. but it wasn't interested
Heres a close up of its markings

Make of that what you will

Yea they will normally follow you if you have MAs onboard & Thargoid gear, but they do usually leave you alone once you have dropped them all! Hmm, weird.....

Malic confirmed during his stream earlier today, Top Speed of a Basilisk Variant is at least above 530 m/sec!!! Basilisk was leaving the encounter, Malic gave chase in his Clipper hitting boost just above 500 m/sec. Could not catch it as it open a wormhole and left!!!

Yikes!, only my Imp Eagle will beat that! (boosts to ~660, but it can't carry any cargo :().
Maybe I could pin down their speed more precisely with it though.

People looked but never found &was eventually deemed to be a bug/feature in the background sounds. But while I suspect it was a bug (pun unintentional!) causing the sound to play out of context, it does hint that this is the sound we’ll get when we eventually encounter a Chitter of live goids.

1) Rep for B5 quotes.

2) I think you're right. At least, the best we can possibly do is get to a place where we're "not actively at war" with them.

I posted it elsewhere, that I was also caught in my 540 m/s boosted FDL. Initally it lagged behind so I chose to low wake, than it started to creep on me - by the time I realized I need to high wake, it was too late, that paper build was shredded in seconds.

Played a little with the new Basilisk Variant Interceptors today. They may be faster and tougher than the Cyclops (5 hearts and their swarm consist of 64 Thargons), but as far as I can see they behave exactly the same way.

Some of them have new markings, the inner ring is different than what we have seen before.

Yep, I've found the same. I've not read any accounts of them doing anything different either - other than hitting harder and possibly being a bit less forgiving when you mess with them :)

You were constantly boosting whilst charging up?

Btw, if anyone's interested in what the Basilisks top speed is I'll take my Imp Eagle to Electra & check it out.
Do they go at full speed when they head towards their wormholes?

I don't know if this is just me (might be) but it seems like they have two "top speeds".

They have a speed when chasing you, and then a faster boost type speed when zooming off into a wormhole, is that right?

I recorded a video to take a closer look at the Thargon swarm. Few observations: Max cruise speed of the thargoid interceptor is around 438/ms, sometimes it looks faster, maybe some kind of boost. Weapon effective range is 3km and chaff doesn't work against their weapons.

The thargons look like very small ships. Maybe the thargoids are very small in size.

Some more tests. I found a NHSS very close to the Indra and dropped to try to lure the thargoid to it (for science). As soon as the Indra came in sensor range the thargoid tried to wake out, but somehow it stayed there forever with the "wormhole" open. I tried to get a friend with flak to destroy the swarm but I got killed before he could join me. I realized the HRPs for that ship were on the module storage and forgot to equip them, that's why I died so fast. We will try again tomorrow to see if we can reproduce this behaviour and get some nice footage of inside the wormhole.

I also tried to make it follow me to several places. When approaching a planet at normal speed it dissapears at around 1000km from the surface. When NHSS are very close to asteroid belts they don't spawn at all. Sorry, don't have videos of this.

My objective with all this testing is try to capture one alive.

Curious, I got one to chase me down to a moon (1 of the TS sites), & it followed me down to about 70km altitude, maybe it depends on the gravity?
