Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

I wonder. Should this new development remain consistent, would it be plausible to completely wipe M. Leigong? Its closest barnacle matrix is just under 15Ly.

Emptying M. Leigong was sort of our original idea if Operation Redacted worked well, before the Matrix sites appeared not long after announcing it. Removing Hyades Sector KN-K b8-3 would un-impasse that idea for a bit, which is 16.2 Ly with 2612 strength or 13060 rescues, but indeed ultimately it requires HIP 9180 at 14.4 Ly with 4123 strength or 20615 rescues.

If you can stockpile 20615 pods while INIV clears any relevant systems which are likely to result in a Counterstrike at all remaining Matrix sites to make use of the duplicated progress, we can do it!

Hm. Unfortunately, I suspect gathering 20,000 pods may be beyond my capabilities…

Stockpiling pods is harder than samples because they don't show up to trade on the carriers still afaik.

Using the Matrix systems for measurement, rescues at M. Indra thus far appear to account for around 830 strength (4150 rescues), and at M. Taranis we have around 530 strength (2650 rescues). Depending on how that continues and which Counterstrike systems remain as we reach Tuesday–Wednesday, I think there is a strong case for leaving some time open and finishing a few of those systems which received a good start via rescues.

A bit more rescuing at M. Indra will complete three more Matrix systems, leave a few other empty Control systems at around two-thirds, and several inhabited Control systems with at least a fifth. At that point, actually the best action then would be for everyone to move over to M. Taranis, for rescues there have pushed the Matrix systems Hyades Sectors HW-M b7-4 and EG-N b7-1 just beyond the one-third surplus threshold. Even if those do not complete, all further rescue progress ought to carry over next week, at least in theory!

Setting aside Matrix systems and looking simply at the fastest clean-up, there is also a case for moving over to M. Raijin. Staying at M. Indra will start to have limited value as those remaining Counterstrike systems become complete, but either way it is working very well, and it will be quite fine to rescue as one will and review later which systems can be adopted for individual completion!

The Argus Defence Fleet have announced on Discord they'll be pushing Obamumbo (which was their target before the whole pod thing, so there is local desire to clear that specific system). May be worth seeing how that turns out.

Both Unktety and Luggerates ought to be fine to complete, and HIP 19198 is the last target of our little M. Thor campaign this week, at which any extra activity is very welcome. The rescue drive at M. Taranis is strong but unlikely to yield much, with two Matrix systems looking slightly out of reach unless everyone else moves there. Meanwhile at M. Indra, I have extended the list a bit to show the effect of all that rescuing; several inhabited systems which will not complete that way alone, but have been given a healthy strength discount of around 1000!

Very good consideration; that may be difficult to test at the moment, but I like the idea of storing a few and delivering them on a Thursday to discover what happens!

Helping a bit there will be quite fine if Obamumbo will be just a bit short to take advantage of the rescue discount! If help is needed, the best will be if they can greet us here and compare things against the remaining strength. Both numerically and respectfully to those conducting rescues though, mind also that requesting a lot of help for Obamumbo would also squander it a bit elsewhere, for every individual system finished that way represents another instance of putting the discount to use.

It may also be worth testing some ordinary samples from a Titan system, too. On the off chance they did it so "progress at Titan - progress in Counterstrikes" rather than specifc to the pods, sampling there would be... rather effective.

Given the fact I've had some free time this evening, I've conducted a test myself! 176 Scout + Cyclops samples from M.Thor's system have been delivered to a Rescue ship (pre-hourly tick), so now just to wait 15-30 minutes for everything to update and see if it worked.

Thank you for testing things! That delivery time likely will make it for the update after that one, around 40 minutes from now. We are watching HIP 19198 very closely; the last update which just occurred lowered it by around 10 strength, which could have been 50 rescues, but either way a number such as 178 ought to be obvious!

Additional: Another change lowered by 2 strength; I think it well to conclude that the Counterstrike progress is limited to Titan-derived items. That would have been quite the blunder otherwise!

With thanks to the defence at Unktety, that carves a notch into M. Thor which it cannot attack again easily, and HIP 19198 should provide a moderately close Starport.

Rescue activity clearly and wisely is supporting M. Taranis now; very well done there, for its first Matrix system at Hyades Sector HW-M b7-4 is now cleared, with at least one more likely to follow. Unfortunately M. Taranis is similar to M. Leigong in having few other Counterstrike systems, where the stronger Modigi seems to be the only remaining option for making use of that discount.

M. Indra is ripe for reduced-strength systems, which INIV will start adopting over the next two evenings; the goal is the greatest number of them, and I am hoping that somebody can save us a visit to the quite weak Arietis Sector JR-V b2-4. On the rescue front, my guess is that many will push at M. Taranis to attempt completion of Trianguli Sector EQ-Y b0. Very notably M. Raijin is also primed for a drive there to start taking weaker Matrix systems around the 24 Ly range, although at this point it may be better to stockpile instead.

That ought to press the advantage a lot at M. Indra, meanwhile the last of the Alerts have been repelled with a day to spare.

Very well done at M. Taranis; the rescue push for all of its Matrix systems was very successful! With only Modigi benefiting there now, one can notice only that M. Raijin is calling for attention. It should be fine to push rescues there given that its first Matrix system has reached the surplus threshold, where that would also help by providing closer Counterstrikes in future, but stockpiling is also understandable.

I have tried to show Counterstrikes differently below, where individual systems are less relevant and the effects of different amounts of rescues are more relevant. In theory the individual systems are relevant beyond the final Matrix, but in practice the more modest rescue push at M. Raijin on a Wednesday does not leave systems more worth chasing individually than those remaining at M. Indra, and the full list is always available at the top here either way.

Just before the cycle ends, victories in Pegasi Sector KH-V c2-13, HIP 21261 and Arietis Sector MM-V b2-1! Short of a surprise pod delivery for M. Raijin, said rescues helped us reach seventy-eight complete systems this week, including nine which contain a Thargoid Barnacle Matrix.

If everything works normally in the Control context, and therefore those systems end up clear, it will be interesting to see visually what becomes of the actual surface sites. Those cleared sites are Ceti Sector BQ-Y b4, Hyades Sectors NT-I b9-4, DX-H a11-1, ST-Q b5-5, HW-M b7-4 and EG-N b7-1, HR 1358, HIP 22350 and Trianguli Sector EQ-Y b0, and it will be worth also checking the Galaxy map for Pegasi Sector NN-S b4-3 (66%) and Col 285 Sector SX-Z b14-0 (2%) to discover whether the surplus threshold works normally.

Between the Alert defence and the bulk progress from rescues, very well done! If bulk Counterstrike progress continues to be the product of Titan rescues, definitely we will leave a bit more of the week available for finishing Control systems it leaves behind. With update 17 approaching, it will be wise also to watch for new ways to stop those Matrix sites which face away from us and will not get a Counterstrike any time soon!

Excellent! That wonderful rescue push at M. Taranis, with Trianguli Sector EQ-Y b0 not attacking its friend EQ-Y b6, also gives us the immediate indication that such causes us no further Alert problems. Ironically, guarding the Matrix sites against new Alerts surely will become more important than guarding our own systems!

Following the Control removal from those two outer Matrix systems at M. Leigong, I notice also that the irksome Hyades Sector KN-K b8-3 is now Counterstrike. At 2612 strength, it would be such a lot to ask for the 13060 rescues to clear it, but if achieved I believe we will be able to tear open the nearer side of the M. Leigong region completely. The entire arc becomes vulnerable from Obassi Osaw across to HIP 8033 by the Maelstrom. Unfortunately the strongest Matrix system there is HIP 9180, hiding behind the Titan along with Arietis Sector YE-R b4-3 where even 20615 rescues cannot reach it without becoming Counterstrike, although it is also quite far away from causing much harm.

For the moment, we have three strong empty Control systems around Col 285 Sector RH-B b14-2 which need clearing, although we also have three weeks to do it—those aside, expect support wherever the rescue drive provides the greatest head-start!
