Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

Indeed! We have the final ten remaining, and around a one-third chunk for HR 1737 collected earlier puts us at ~75% ready, which is very far in advance considering that we have also all of next week. Everything relies on the Periphery completion!

Forewarned is forearmed - Had a number of reports, and some screenshots since yesterday of interceptors up to Medusa now dropping in occasionally after some Orthrus have been taken out, with reports of Waves of combat interceptors arriving after a spire sabotage or two has been done. Some mention of hydra but, no pictures seen there yet.

That seems fair, I think—if the Spire sites are as critical as Professor Palin imagines, a little more resistance than a pure Orthrus slaughter ought to be expected!

Not this week - the significant reduction over time in the number of inhabited Alerts placed at Indra, Oya, Cocijo and Raijin has meant that there happen not to be any within 20 LY of the specific Control systems with Military bases (and the other four never had any to start with, of course). Next week might have a few?

Thank you—I was not aware of the Alert requirement! I will correct the wording at the top immediately; it has been simply this for a while:
If a military settlement is present, nearby populated systems will offer reactivation missions.
Needing an Alert system seems awfully specific and a strange Frontier decision; for example, having to coerce an Alert in Hez Ur just to get missions for Mapon.

They could originally be obtained in any system within range, even clear of any Thargoid state. Then Frontier “fixed” that to make it their intended design of only appearing within alerts and invasions with… U16, I believe?

I guess it falls in the idea of war-specific activities being limited to those states/systems, but is just a little too specific for this particular type. If the range were extended to 30 light years or higher, it would at least reduce the frequency of them not appearing, if populated alerts are available.

At the time of the change, Indra and Raijin especially were reliably throwing out several inhabited Alerts each week, and Oya and Cocijo were reasonably reliable for inhabited Alerts too.

Moving them (or perhaps copying them, since I believe they do also help the Alert system) to rescue ships would make sense nowadays.

This system/spire is cleared but has either glitched out or there is something very strange going on - there are presently roughly 20 medusas flying around the spire in open, with more jumping in...
I think spires currently do not stop like the other systems(despite the contrary message) until the cycle ends. Least they didn’t so far.

Though, if this is only happening now and not before the site was cleared, I can only say the Thargoids are a bit late at coming to the site’s defense in such manner. (And that it is very odd.) Is (Was) anyone active there?

Currently at HR 1358 collecting goods to later use for sabotage. I rarely see anyone at the spires despite bing in open and going to the ones that indicate a concerted effort. Yesterday was 1 type 10. Today was 0 anything. At least it was on a lit side of the moon.

Need a panzer brigade to clear out banshees. I mean can do them one at a time but its super time consuming.

Njorog complete. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

The latter remains the strongest Alert repelled, having done so once before in week 39, and if everything follows the plan next week it should be never again.

With thanks to those stockpiling Titan rescues for next week at M. Taranis, notably M. Indra has a feasible Periphery completion upcoming. This time, such is actually needed to proceed sensibly beyond four unnecessary Matrix systems congesting its outer ten, and the boost for three inhabited systems is worth somewhat more than the single system last week.

I bodged together a live activity report months ago, been defunct for a while due to no port attacks.
Just updated it today to merge in spires as well - https://dev.iniv.space/pilots/
It's limited to EDDN and doesn't mean the CMDRs are in open play or there to clear/farm it, just an indication which could help :D

For what it's worth, sent the folk following AXI **Combat targets over when the spires finished in Taranis - figure same as your note last week, return the favour a bit, plus its the region really showing progress.

Given Orthrus chasing and sabotage/combat interceptor work seems somewhat mutually exclusive, been roughly directing sabotage efforts to ST-Q b5-5, and (as some had already left DQ-O and gone back) Orth chasers to 22350

Will see how it all turns out, if I get chance I'll be looking at pods/ scraping sabotage mats out of DQ-O for next week.
Far as the latter, folk May want to do that in solo or a smaller private group though - the ops vulture had a bad time last night, had to call a buddy for S&R from the parade above.

I heard of some fun with a big Medusa swarm around the Taranis spires last night. Not that I was there myself, but I’m sure it was interesting.

Next week’s periphery completion is probably more important than the rest. Not getting Swahku right the first time could potentially mess up the whole thing… well, for at least a month. If not longer.

So looking at the situation, the plan should be fairly fail-safe for the next few weeks, even if the last step is harder than expected:
Taranis-edges.png

Next week, 1 Alert (HR 1737 -> Trianguli CA-A c22)
If a second week is needed, Hyades FB-N b7-3 and Hyades BV-O b6-3 are targetable, which isn't enough to extend the perimeter past Swahku even if CA-A c22 isn't defended next week.
If a third week is needed, that's when they start being able to place too many Alerts at once, and taking out some Controls early starts to be needed. But hopefully that won't be necessary.

Hey, I found humans today. Down side is all the barnacle things were harvested but I just hopped up and joined the air cover and had a bit of fun.

Thank you—very assuring! Losing a week to the steep Periphery change felt quite disappointing, very especially because it came once again just after having made Maelstrom destruction plans as with the Matrix appearances stopping us at M. Leigong and almost ruining Operation Redacted. Setting aside the extreme curiosity regarding what may occur afterwards, mostly I hope for one Maelstrom cleared soon so that something is appreciably different beyond one year, and also a bit to see how Jade Sanderlyn presents the situation given its coincidence with that one-year timing!

Speaking of M. Leigong, we are doing a little trimming based on everything available; your maps, its attacks and a list of its remaining systems! Hyades Sector KN-K b8-2 is being delivered at the moment, where the effect should be that its net losses actually prepare it for a Final Twenty completion:
  • Four Alerts reduce to two rather than three.
  • The loss of Hyades Sector KN-K b8-1 progresses the Periphery one more system.
  • The loss of Hyades Sector KN-K b8-2 does not.
The three-system movement should place Arietis Sector YE-R b4-3 within Periphery reach, while keeping HIP 9180 only just out of reach. The latter also moves from seventh to sixth, the same situation as with M. Taranis now, with possibility (and perhaps necessity!) of freeing yet more Final Ten places!

It may be difficult to get Commanders to rally there and actually deliver the Peripheral progress, but the opportunity will be there! Ultimately, enough trimming for lack of that attention will put M. Leigong into a Final Ten scenario.

If Taranis does something more interesting than sulk when it loses all systems, it might be worth at Leigong testing whether the condition for that is "out of spires" or "out of systems". There are a few of the others where the former is a lot more straightforward a target.

True! In that case, I present to everybody else that M. Leigong will still be Final Twenty next week in the sense that two Periphery completions can end it, but that we could leave only Arietis Sector YE-R b4-1 alive in the second week:

Arietis Sector YE-R b4-1.png

That would eliminate its Matrix systems while leaving one normal Control system which has only ever Arietis Sector YE-R b4-3 as a possible target; we would get an immediate result regarding loss of all Spires, and the option will be present to discover after one month what happens with an Alert in a Matrix system.

As an aside, I quite like the idea of Final Ten and Final Twenty having a quite strong meaning beyond simply the number of systems:
  • Final-anything means a Spire is available.
  • Final Ten means the available Control and Alert activity can complete the Maelstrom given a Periphery completion.
  • Final Twenty means the available activity can reach Final Ten given a Periphery completion, including new Alerts.
It continues in theory, although in practice the Periphery strength starts weakening and normal completion becomes just as good!
