Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

I do vaguely remember some hints from Paul (not where, however) that even if the Titans were defeated, the Thargoids might instead try with a different strategy.

'Whilst the Thargoids could always change their strategy in future, I don't think we've seen the last of their invasions'. Though it wouldn't do to read too much into a one-liner forum post from June. It could simply be a hint at the Shindez invasion.

More recently, Seo Jin-Ae:
"But I can still hear the Thargoid mind. I guess they’re done with me. They’re planning something now."

I suppose it could just have referred to that particular change in behavior, but even if it was simply in reference to the Thargoids skipping the alert state, it seems doubtful that they're just letting the Titans get reduced to bits and pieces for absolutely no reason and everything will just calmly go back to the previous status quo.

Well, I think it's safe to say that the Goids skipping the Alert stage in two systems per week is a change to accomodate players like myself, who enjoy defending Invasions and were disappointed when all the Alerts got cleared immediately and never progressed to Invasion state. Both invasions were defended today or sometime last night, by the way.

Oh and it was also new to me that now you get mats for defending invasions even without running any missions. When was that change implemented? It was a nice surprise for me when I logged in today.

I believe it came around the same time that the change of invasions being instant occurred. Similarly to the (populated) counterstrike port reactivation, of which there is 7 at Cocijo this week (though Desurinbin is probably cleared by now, it was at 96% when I checked maybe 30 minutes to an hour ago).

And it's actually up to three systems, plus two alerts if possible. Cocijo's attack-launching perimeter is currently simply a bit constrained due to the ongoing attack against it, and some other systems which it could have attacked remaining on cooldown until the second-next Thursday (when they can be attacked again, providing sufficient systems remain within range).

... I'm also reasonably sure the invasion additions were part gameplay but Frontier have a liking to try making up lore excuses for their stuff. A lot less obviously so, for the Thargoids, so the best guess one could have for these invasions (as they are nowhere near strong enough to actually have a chance at taking the targeted system, or be a meaningful diversion) is to capture people.

Hooray, participated in my first counterstrike today. Just finished recapturing Ulche. Promotions all around!
More particularly, my Alt got promoted to Expert for soloing a ground instance with a plucky little Vulture armed with MCs. The NPCs helped quite a bit, though.

(I played in Open, but Horizons, and apparently nobody does that anymore so I remained alone. Not sure if I want to buy Ody for an Alt, though.)

Oh however, sorry for double posting, but I have a question.
In that Counterstrike system, the allied NPCs were green and did their job and everythng, but several if not all of them were marked "ENEMY" in the targeting display. They didn't attack me however, and as far as I can tell they didn't even accidentally hit me with friendly fire. I am not pledged to any power and neither were they. Other CMDRs were just labelled as "Lawless" as per usual in Anarchy systems.
Is that a little bug or what's the reason for this tag?

No they definitely were friendlies, Vultures and whatnot. Also I think I have Crimes Off but it was an anarchy system anyway. And I also think it also happened with my Ody Main, but I'll keep an eye out for it next time.

Did they have Powerplay 2 pledges which opposed yours? I have not seen that personally, but a possibility could be that Winters or Torval were within range for Ulche system forces to become involved. I noticed that some of the actual Powerplay 2 forces have the AX forces chatter lines occasionally, so there could be a bit of cross-over behaviour in general, perhaps as if the AX forces count as an extra "Power".

The Mahlina system forces seem unaffiliated and do not show as an enemy for me. If they did, I wonder how it would work—destroying them could not possibly add Power progress to expanding into the system, although it could yield personal Merits.

The cause may still be related to Powerplay 2 and how each group of system forces operates:
  • As mentioned, some Powerplay 2 forces are repeating the AX forces chatter lines, which is an indication of shared behaviour.
  • The way Frontier made Powerplay 2 work may have impacted AX forces due to sharing behaviour.
  • The first ever mention of anything such as that comes soon after Powerplay 2 releases, possibly following the effects of its first weekly cycle.
Other ideas very welcome, of course! That is the main and obvious one from me, though.
