Thargoids now Unkillable with AX Missiles

i'm curious as to how this is any different from other games where a developer changes either the way the AI behaves or what build works or not in a patch.

To my mind it's not. Just.. Get.. over it.. Builds changes.. AI changes.. Patches happen... Often without notice..

They decided AX missiles were too powerful, made things too easy so they were nerfed. Just like in any other games.. So they decided to kill 2 birds with one stone.. Bring in the adapt story AND fix the OP missiles.

Get over it

Fdev knew the thargoids were going to adapt. Told us they would both from Sandro, Ed and others.

We were told "winter is coming" and people really.. really thought what we had was winter? If it was it was more like "Damp October's coming".

They could have adapted by learning not to fly in a straight line, they could have adapted by winging up and forcing us to fight two or three Interceptors, They could have adapted by sending the new improved Interceptor Mk II into battle, with better shields and more hearts, they could have adapted by being more aggressive and using their stronger attacks at the beginning of a fight, they could have adapted by sending their fast nimble scout ships into battle that would be difficult to hit with dumbfire missiles. Those things I was expecting. Instead they adapted by reducing the effectiveness of our weapons... eh? what? I can't even..?

Alternatively Frontier could have just admitted that the weapons were too powerful and we were winning too easily, apologised and reduced the missiles damage by an appropriate amount.

Dear FD.
I think it,s time for you to adapt. Revert the changes ASAP and admit that it was a huge mistake.
I,m ok with Thargoids adapting and changing their behaviour and becoming unkillable gods for some period of time, but that was the dumbest thing you've ever done in 4 years of Elite development.
And people already told you why.

It is amazing to note that everything is done by the developer is wrong. No content is wrong, content is wrong, yesterday there was the buff the goids wave, today it is nerf the goid wave. If they put content and lore in front of you you compalin there is no challenge, if you have to look around and discover things you say it is boring... What do you want from this game? a space themed cod?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
The outrage over this is unbelievable, I'm sorry.

FD is trying to tell a story with 2.4 and have it unfold in a curated way. Like every single other developer in the history of video gaming they tweaked a damage multiplier to better suit the experience.

That's it.

Why people are losing their minds over this is beyond me.

Thargoids are supposed to be big and mysterious and dangerous, at least to start. We're a few days into 2.4 and people are complaining that we can't kill them fast enough? Seriously?

I'm not buying the adaptation bit. It sounds more like they were too strong in the first place and lore is being used to cover it up. Probably didn't mean for us to have them in farm mode before all the content was out. Sure, it could sincerely be that they were going to adapt, but I doubt it and I personally don't see anything wrong with the change without the lore reason. Thargoids were supposed to be a big deal and be tough in the first place.

Oh you, I'm surprised that you're surprised. I'm sure you've modded enough posts to know that you can't taketh away the farm once you give it. :p

You are forgetting there are supposedly other variants out there. Who's to say it's not all the above and more? Who's to say cyclops isn't the equivalent of a harmless sidewinder?

If cyclops as it was yesterday was all there is to it. There is or was not the fear factor to justify the build up, the paranoia and all the history in the game.

As I said above if cyclops is all there is, and it could be solo'd then David Braben's winter is coming resembles a damp sunday afternoon in October..

Evil... very evil.

When you read it in an evil voice, is very funny.

"The changes introduced with 2.4 are working as intended.

These changes reflect the fact that the Thargoids are adapting to our weapons and tactics.

Keep an eye on GalNet for further updates."

I liked FD's approach, just didn't liked the way it was implemented, IMHO they could have done something different.

Just to let a sugestion:
What about now part of the swarm acts like a reactive armor? Don't know, they could destroy 95% of the incoming missiles. Or maybe the goids could now appear in pairs, one of them focus fire at incoming missiles, while the other one melts the players.

Lets hope that the Galnet article explaines everything.

Yet again, I have no problem with Thargoids being difficult, even unkillable (it's not like Mega ships or stations are easy to take down either)The advancement of a storyline whereby Thargoids adapt to pose a mroe significant real threat and the arms race excitement is great immersive stuff of course. But that the alien adaption is not them getting tougher or more resiliant or increasing a defensive capability but instead, instantly, galaxy wide all AX missiles (including those already outfitted) and all such new production ordnance are suddenly less effective against EVERYTHING is just stupid. Really. I am at a serious loss trying to find any logic in this or any way that it can make any sense.Yesterday I could destory a Sidewinder with those missiles. Suddenly, that SIdewinder is now magically adapted thanks to Thargoid technology?

So thats the great thargoid narrative? Grind for antithargoid-features -> one weekend of nice gameplay -> grind again ? [haha]

Nope thanks. Never did these grindy trading goals. And now I have another reason not to participate.

Fighting thargoids was IMO the best wing-gameplay in elite. And now you removed it for another CG grind.
One of my wingmates bought a new ship for fighting thargoids and prepaired it the last to days and now it is useless. [haha]

Why not let the thargoids operate in 2 ships at some point of the narrative or introduce new types of thargoids.

This way is just poor because there is nothing else to do thargoid related.

If at least bounty farming would be half as challenging as fighting thargoids this balancing change would not bother me and I could do something until these grindy goals are finished...

Oh btw, imho, don't tell people when you nerf the weapons if its for a gameplay story element.

Or just mention "great gameplay removed" in the next changelog.

... and all that story stuff for just a new type of signal source.

It's not useless, you're just going to need the new weapon as well. Might want to help out if you're dying to hop back in with more firepower. If not, it's a good thing there's other things to do in the game eh?

This is what happens when you read too much into a GAME. Multiplyers and such for god sake. It was probably easier to mod a weapon down than change a whole ship species. Take it as adapting Thargoids rather than a weapon nerf. Its a story, its a game, its all smoke and mirrors love
