I'm afraid to say I agree. This is a pretty average design. Better than the adder tho which I really don't rate.

I agree, I just cropped a python screenshot and resized it so the cockpit was of a similar size, taking into account the python having to seats and the FDL having one, they look close to me.

As a massive fan and long time player of the original elite on various bit platforms I have to say it was the Fer De Lance that I always dreamed as a kid of one day being able to fly. I really hope if and when it makes it into E : D it is something special
From what I recall it was pretty fast with decent firepower and shields, so would hope for something in E : D like asp explorer in jump and killy capability, with cargo space sacrificed for killiness and a super king size waterbed, silk sheets, dolbi 140k surround sound and gesture controlled holographic glitter ball. Oh and champagne flute holders on the dashboard. Looks wise, I am thinking of something sharp and sleek and lovely - the flamboyant supercar of the E : D world. Fingers crossed

Ooo ooo ooo lol, think I would've checked the newsletter, ohh well. Not sure I like it, needs to be more sleek. Longer, faster looking, maybe the actual Lance will be. Its in the name Lance, its long fast looking. Ohh well, stand corrected, now, where's my banana.
If the Cobra is the Ford Mustang, the Fer-der-Lance is the BMW M5. And let's face it, which one would you rather have? Can't wait to use it as my bounty hunting/mercenary/pirate ship. It'll be probably be first multiroller I like (I hate the Cobra and the Asp).
EDIT: The question of the day: will it be a Zorgon Peterson craft? I personally think it is a bit crappy they're stuck with a flying bin and a Cobra Mk. -1 for their only ships and they really deserve something decent. It would also make sense considering Elite's lore.

Let me show you what we've just got in' and it does look good compared to the other craft, but... where's the "For our most discerning customers, only 300 roll off the production line in the entire galaxy, and pre-orders are filled for the next 4 years, but let me see what we can do, as we have some surplus military we take, tweak up, new paint job, and can offer to our more... exclusive customers, you did say you were trading in your Anaconda fleet, right?"

I'm not very good at the potatochop but here's more how I remember/imagine the Fer-de-Lance.
Sleek, exotic, expensive, luxury, speed, extreme.
It needs something more on the backend though and a few bits to make it more interesting but I haven't the skill to do that. But essentially those big hauler type wings it currently has I don;t think should be there at all. Also I removed the backend top two rudder things as they made the hull look curved along the top which is not how I see the Fer-de-Lance, it needs angles.
Also maybe big massive powerful looking "air" inlets on those white panels that run down each side of the the upper hull, those two panels were the defining feature of the Fer-de-Lance, maybe accentuate them and make them part of the ship rather than just a paint job.

Seems like it's going to be hard to land with the canopy so high and in the middle of the hull... reminds me of the cockpit location in the Vought Corsair...

Good work dude. I would be really happy if the final design heads more in this direction.
Look at the hatch on the right side of the image. That hatch is very large compared to the size of the ship. Much larger, relatively, than the Cobra. Closer to the size of the hatch relative to an eagle or sidewinder. Just above the hatch appears to be something that looks like a couple rungs of a ladder, possibly to allow access to the top of the ship, or maybe it's partially stowed (could be something else entirely, of course)
I'm still thinking it's small. I could be wrong, though
