Fighter’s gonna tear up most smalls before they can really threaten a PvP spec medium tbh. Even if he did manage to missile spam your guns away, you could just hang out and wait for the fighter to do its job. Crazy how much hull those things shave off over time.

I used to main a stealth DBS when I was still fairly new to PvP, and fighters were always the worst to deal with.

That, and the rare pilot who might be competent with hitscan. Not many of those over here, but when you come across them, all that being small/evasive business goes right out the window.

Actually, any fighter that is able to actually be a major help in terms of damage dealt in a PVP fight to a PVP opponent, means that, that person's ship is built poorly.
So, that's a bad assumption based on very poor small class ship pilots.
A NPC SLF is a nuisance, and at times - a N00b trap if it's being focused by the other ship's opponent. But, it's mostly a deterrent or distraction.

As for the most part it is utility damage and won't contribute to a helmsman's DPSv. It also gives the opponent a time limit to restrict fights from becoming stupid - that too.
The majority of small class ship pilots think speed before durability and gimmicks before practicality.
That's why the small ship class generally struggles with anything that can ruin or counter their gimmick.

Fighters are more effective than you’re giving them credit for, man.

I don’t know what the stats were like on the DBS in question, but there are times in this video (the few times you aren’t clobbering it with plasma while it utterly fails to evade) where the fighter is peeling 2-4% of hull off in just a few seconds.

Some different weapons—and maybe some more aggressive piloting—might have helped the DBS out here, but the outcome was going to be the same regardless.

I never said they weren't effective.
I said it gives your opponent a time limit and if it's that deadly to your opponent then THEY are doing something wrong.
There's a big difference. It is a stock NPC after all with only thermal damage at its disposal in short bursts.

I don't know what Ramius' armor was built like - not well AT ALL from what I could tell. (Par for the course, it's rare to meet anyone outside of Ravenwing who can build competent armor setups.)
But, his shield is what betrayed him the most. It was massive for what he wanted to accomplish at a staggering over 120 joules on that class 3 Distributor. He was straining that build trying to be both a shield tank and an amor tank on a biweave setup. It wasn't optimal at all. Which is what shocked me when he asked me for the 1v1.

Nobody out turns me anyways, so my guess is his overconfidence got the better of him.
Kinda' like my 1v1 with a Nomad FDL last evening. Same thing.

Ok, don't see how I was going to?

The difference the fighter and utility seeker make is almost null
Those who complain about it, are literally just looking for a convenient justification for why they lost, instead of accepting their fate as the horribly, bad pilots they are.
This fight is a demonstration of just that.

My friend Plexus asked me for a fight where I purposely gimp myself and then he tells me to fight him with my full power.
The difference? None, just a small "time to kill" difference. Well, that and the fact that my friend doesn't get all up in arms about the small ship gimmicks being outplayed by someone with higher skill.

Conclusion: Those who complain about the SLF are bad pilots who need to learn to fly and outfit more better. It doesn't change the outcome, just makes those who are bad squeal. They just need to put 4 pips to try hardness and actually consider becoming of the git gud instead of clutching on their small gimmick.
Same with the FDL META to be honest.
