The 15 second logout timer in action

I was reading this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/442697-Opinions-on-combat-logging and decided to try out the timer at the CG when sure enough, immediately griefed non-stop by wanted players who want me to be their content. Not wanting to spend 12M a pop on rebuys, I used the timer. It worked as advertised, normally followed up by "friend" requests that turned out to be anything but, and threats to send the video to something called "elite combat loggers" (that's like a shaming site i guess).

Why am I only finding out about this wonderful piece of kit now?

That's some stellar gameplay mate. More power to you!

We need more players who can effectively use the tools provided to them by Frontier Developments.

Perhaps you should post an elaborate guide on how to use the advanced "menu log" tactic - for those of us who aren't as good at the game?

Thanks in advance :).

Hello Commanders!

To clarify: *the official stance on exiting the game via the menu, at any point, is that it is legitimate.* I suspect at some point we may increase the "in danger" countdown, but for now you just have to wait fifteen seconds.

However, we can't speak for how other Commanders view such actions.

For the record, when we talk about "combat logging" at Frontier, we mean the act of ungracefully exiting the game (either by ALT-F4 type procedures or by cutting the network traffic).

one of my latest bits of "emergent content" is griefing griefers with this tactic. Especially at CGs.

its completely legit gameplay amd if they keep bothering you that's harassment under TOS you can report them.

Ohhhhh they get sooooooo mad.

menu logging isn't griefing, had to correct you on that.

it's a perfectly legit strategy my friend.

oh I know its legit....as is shooting completely unarmed ships. The people that keep coming after me and trying to kill me in my completely unarmed ship with zero cargo and no bounty over and over just to have me pop out from under them think its griefing.

If you're doing it specifically to annoy players, it is.

It's not the act that makes something griefing or not, it's the intent behind it.

yes....but its totally legit and legal griefing. However interdicting the same player over and over is harassment and IS a violation of game rules.

Someone interdicting your CMDR over and over again for an in-game reason is neither griefing, nor harassment, and not a violation of the rules.

Baiting them into doing so specifically so you can log off (which cannot be an in-character action) in order to frustrate them is all of those things.

Its possible the gankers are working on their 15 sec countdown destruction techniques, for which Touch is helping them refine and improve. Looks like a symbiotic relationship to me. One of these battles, Touch wont last the 15 secs and face the rebuy.
