The (argh!) that just doesn't make any sense thread.

  • No evidence of a kitchen on any of the ships
  • No evidence of a toilet on any of the ships
At least not in the cockpit. But well, imagine you had both right behind your seat...

Edit: i get a fine or even worse if my ship stays near a planetary settlement for too long, but they dont care about random SRVs driving arround the buildings?

NAV beacons! Why, why, why are they there? what purpose do they serve and why do NPC's hang around there to get blasted?

THIS is my pet peeve.

We have nav beacons, for what? Only to lock on to travel to a star? Why, we can travel to unknown systems and do THEY have nav beacons?

And WHY are people hanging out there? There is no PURPOSE to hang out there.

Hell, if they made it so that ALL traffic ENTER a system by landing in normal space AT a nav beacon then I could understand, then those choke-points would be waystations and loading docks for large carrier ships but at the moment they are useless.

And NPC's hang out there for no reason, it's like some just do a pit stop there to hang around and then go away.

If we want nav beacons put a mini-outpost there with a large docking arm for huge container ships like the ones in Frontier Elite II.

Then WE as players could get transport and ferrying missions TO those waystations.

- Commercial/Industrial Outposts lacking a Commodity market
(how are these fools making a living?)

- "Unsanctioned" Outposts still being called unsanctioned when under non-unsanctioned Control... They even keep the Pirate Logo powered up...
(*ugh* Sir, shouldn't we power-down the red skulls on our new Outpost? We're a Democratic Federation Faction after all..... No Cadet, I think it looks kinda cool, doesn't it?)

- Federation/Alliance/Empire/Independent Factions never repainting Stations with former Government symbols after taking them over
(Independent Station Commander : Good thing we threw those Feds out of the Station... But let's keep the Federation logo, maybe we can fool someone with it.)

- Outposts or Stations sitting >300000Ls away from the primary Sun, despite far more profitable locations in the same System exist for their Economy
(which fool placed the Outpost/Stations into the worst possible place?!)

- Outposts of Stations sitting >300000Ls away from the primary Sun all have perfectly happy Economies and issue Missions never reflecting their extreme Distance
(Yeah, 18000Cr to resupply you? Tear&Wear cost will exceed the profits from that alone... go find some other sucker *lol*)

- Hydrogen Fuel shows up frequently in the Trade Data... despite every single one must be trading at a loss
(Sure, I'll ignore the Palladium you got and fill my Ship with -5Cr/ton loss Hydrogen fuel instead *lol*)

- LongRange Haulage Missions pay xxx.xxxCr for moving Biowaste, Scrap or Hydrogen fuel over 90-140LY; into an area that has penty of its own neaby supplies of that stuff
(Who - on earth - pays that Money for generic <100Cr/ton Commodities readily available within 10LY ?! Heck I'll take the money - but you guys are crazy ;))

- Factions all offering Terrorist Missions, even against Targets from their own Faction
(You guys are just hurting yourself, you're aware of that? Is Friendly Fire a concept to you? Blue-on-Blue? Fratricide? Ever heard of that?!)

- Clean Factions issuing illegal Missions and issue Bounty when detected themselves
(Could you guys make up your mind please? You sent me out there for the salvage - so tell your Authority Ships I'm on that mission upon your own request and make it legal under your jurisdiction)

- Factions delivering Data or Cargo to anyone (boosting their Influence), even ones of enemy type
(You guys are aware you're supporting the very same Faction you'd go to war with?)

- parking the Ship 200km from a Black Hole with disabled Thrusters doesn't excert any Gravity effects
(This ain't the Cygnus, even it needed to use its massive Engines to maintain orbit around a black hole)

- Bounty for popping even a 500M Cr worth Clean Ship : 6400Cr, which any jurisdiction promply forgets after a 7-day timed Alzheimer and allowing to pay it off.
(Capital Crime isn't a concept for these guys, is it? Hog a docking Pad or dare to exceed the Timer just docking or undocking - met with instant lethal force. But destroy countless clean guys? Noone cares. *speechless* What's wrong with you people ?!)

- Federation and Imperial Navy happily rank you up performing acts of Terrorism or Smuggling
(They do seem to be Terrorist organizations themselved, then, now don't they? There goes the entire Federation and Empire tradion & lore *poof*)

- Unshielded Pirate NPCs happily Cargo-Scan even Authority Anacondas in Wings or Players in heavy Bounty-Hunter Ships
(You guys crazy or something? All I have is all you want? Want to scoop up 416tons in your mighty Eagle? What do I carry you wonder?.... C4 Plasma Projectiles, if you insist to know :D )

- Rescue Occupied Escape capsules or recover a Black Box 300LY out? Illegal! Rescue Slaves that some popped Pirate Ship dropped? Illegal! Destroy defense installations and Skimmers protecting a Mining or Crash Site? Loot all legal *lol*
(So I'm expected to leave humans out there to die? The Black Box of the mystery wreckage is supposed to remain unsolved mystery? Humans in Cargo canisters are supposed to die instead? *uhm* okay... Not much left of humanity, huh?)

- Distress Calls : Seeing some small/medium Ship repeatedly call for help while disabled and under attack - although you realize after a few Minutes its Hull is apparently made of Invulneranium
(Even after fighting off the Arcade-style WAVE 1! to WAVE 3! and receiving a Fine & Wanted status for firing before doing a KWS (despite Security Uplink supposedly jammed) and seeing the Rescue Ship arrive - that Ship doesn't anything and just leaves again... All while the poor NPC is still crying for help *lol*)

Needing to be an Elite explorer to take a mission that's one jump away.
Sorry, I'm a mere Pathfinder, there's no way I could possibly find a place that's listed in the left pane, no sir.

This:

Cobra IV 4A shields: 180
Cobra III 4A Shields: 124
Viper IV 3A Shields: 163, 4A Shields: 226

The Viper IV is heavier hull than the Cobra III The Cobra IV is heavier then both. Something is not right here I think.
I would have thought the bigger shields on the smaller ships would produce better shields.

The main thing that doesn't make sense to me is the fact that we have an advanced discovery scanner that can locate planets and stars thousands of LS away, yet we have a surface scanner that loses contact with a POI when you drop below 1.5km so you have to rely on plain old sight or driving around in your SRV to actually find stuff...

The reason for Nav beacons is to show the stations in a system, if you enter a system you have not explored before stations will always show but the planets will not until you have fired off a scanner. However I do agree that there is no actual reason for a load of ships to be hanging around there unless it is the 3301 equivelent of boy racers hanging about in a car park.

2 creds,

The fact that FD can be so absolutely amazing at technical presentation of this game, yet so utterly dull and lackluster with creative content. Brit's really need to learn what Adventure means....

  • Twenty-five minutes is the largest oxygen supply anyone has ever seen. Major Tim would not be happy.

And now here's a tricky question:

When (if?) somewhere in the future, walking outside of your ship in a space suit will be implemented, will they

1) make these space suit's oxygen supply even shorter than a few minutes than our ship's "life support" has,

-or-

2) make up excuses on why you have a fully functional oxygen tank somewhere in the ship, but won't use it even when your canopy is broken?

I've got lots of them but I'll start with one that really peeved me in Powerplay, and that is that the president of the Federation seemingly picked for his hq a system that his ethos was weak against, and was not Federation aligned. And on a related note the fact that the federation HQ system allows NPCs from rival powers to interdict pilots at will and nothing is done to stop it ... if anything a power's HQ should be the most secure system under their control!

So I have this mission to deliver some goods, I have to meet some bloke somewhere, and he will give me coordinates for the delivery. So where the hell is he. I have failed the mission and now I am sitting in a station with goods that are now stolen. IE missions are still confusing and are created by someone on crack.

Biggest offender incoming....

It's the middle of nowhere, an empty space in a system, thousands of ls away from a station....heck, trillions of miles and kms from any station or star...or anything!!....

A WEDDING BARGE!!! A FREAKING WEDDING PARTY!!!!

BUT SOME PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS BE RACHET AND HAVE A WEDDING CARAVAN GOING TO NOWHERE AT THAT RIDICULOUSLY LOW SPEED!!!

Is not like the wedding is happening there, with a stunning back drop of a blue star....No, no, no, no...

These people are travelling in a T9...cause you know, I would have my family and friends packed in cargo hauls, just as if we were ready to cross the Mexican border...cause that's the way to celebrate a wedding...

Forget the Orca...pfff... who wants luxury??? T9 and its lack of amenities is what goes!!

To add insult to injury, some T6 are doing up and downs as if they were whales...or dolphins... or whatever... who is watching this otherwise "cheap" space show?!!

"Bad taste" couple is locked in the nether levels of their T9, which doesn't have windows! Heck, you can be piloting the T9 and have a whole show of the Cirque Du Soleil, right by your side, and would never ever notice it!

......

Invariably, right after I spot these logic wreaking convoys, I stand up of my seat, go back to my ship's locker, get my full body yellow jumper, my Hattori Hanzo sword, come back to my cockpit, deploy weapons...

"You want a wedding?? I'll give you one you'll never forget (expletive involving their mothers)!!!! Here comes the bride!"

Ship's iPod starts to play "Bang, Bang" by Nancy Sinatra...

Let's just say, I am the worst wedding crasher in the Galaxy....

Was just about to post this, sometimes I look out my cockpit and say 'Hey! I can see that crashed ship, but my scanner must be broke because it can't!'

Argh! Given out all my rep. on this thread today and need so much more.

What delicious myth, Commanders.

Keep 'em coming :)

Station based mass lock is likely and artificial device to stop dangerously close jumps.

Stolen Illegal goods are still marked down for being stolen despite already being very illegal. What, are they worried the slaves might some how be MORE illegal due to the fact one slaver took it from another.

Ah ha! :). Now you say it, a station-based gravitational locking device does really make sense. Thanks CMDR Kastor!

We can participate in CQC while exploring. Quantum data link with remote piloting? But we can't send exploration data back via that link, or remote pilot our own vehicles (except the SRV it seems, based respawn to ship).
