The Black Hand - Guild beta recruitment

The Black Hand are recruiting during beta so we can have a functional guild for the game's launch.

We are predominantly a pirating force with a macabre twist and pvp skillz to pay the billz, though accept that the quickest way to riches and well-armed crafts is often through trading ourselves.

Interested in lurking in the shadows of the Galaxy and pouncing upon unsuspecting pilots with demands for their cargo or meeting death? Please follow this link and apply to our murky Chapter.

Wasn't the Black Hand the group that basically sparked World War 1?

To the guy who asked how would this work: in theory teamspeak and friend lists in all, you could in theory organize trade convoies or small raiding parties.

Also: There are no wolves on Fenris.

I have no idea what you are on about..!

But as my real-life name is Fenris and I have wolf related tattoos on my body... There are wolves on Fenris :)

Add to that that the name Fenris originates from the name of a Wolf in Norse Mythology... I still have no idea what you are on about!

VTM Bad Guys...

I have an old Role Play book from Vampire the Masquerade called 'Dirty Secrets of the Black Hand'. Yes, I like this idea. Possibilities abound. >: )

To those who ask how it might work, there's nothing stopping and it's probably recommended that such groups have out of game private forums to communicate and formulate. Such is the way of secret societies.

oh, i'm not worried about how it's organized...that's no problem.
i'm interested in how it will work out for a wolfpack ingame with all the options of consequences, groupswitching, ignore lists and such.
of course i'm maybe doing the same mistake that happens so often in here: mixing up piracy and PvP.

So erm, given the nature of the game, how is this guild going to work?

I'm not sure what you mean by "given the nature of the game" Joe. My opinion on ED's design is that it's highly compatible with coordinated piracy / bounty hunting / guarding / trade activities. ED is a MMO game and the developers' intention is certainly not to disallow anybody from crossing anybody else they don't know. On this basis, I can give you every assurance that there will be a multitude of opportunities for planned and unplanned interaction with other pilots.

I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that instancing = never meeting anyone / being able to do any kind of group activity. So far we've been restricted in how much interaction we can have in Beta, but even here I've cooperated (somewhat opportunistically) with like-minded individuals to take down cargo vessels and steal their cargo, all the meantime not killing one another; sharing in the spoils. However, things aren't only restricted to coordinated piracy. If you've had the chance to try out Theo20185's EliteDangerousTradingAssistant, you'll realise how laborious it will be to accumulate and aggregate commodity prices and stock for numerous nearby stations in star-system islands within the galaxy; a coordinated effort in gathering in this data (e.g. as a guild / clan / corps) to generate a network of trade would keep the guild well ahead of the rest.

I haven't gone into discussion about how else you could profit from a guild because I think it's naturally quite intuitive; how does a Sidewinder take out an anaconda filled with Gold by him/herself and no NPCs to help you out? Anyway, let's not detract from the simple pleasure of having comrades to chat to and flying around with you mutually enjoying the game; it's half the fun of being in a group in the first place; I'd take a human wingman over the planned NPC hired-gun wingmen any day.

The Design Discussion Archive forum is a good place to start if you're not sure what the developers are working towards with regards to ED, trading, piracy vs griefing and where the line is drawn, etc etc.

I don't think you can actually have guilds within the game... so how are you going to do this?

Fenris, you're right that, so far, there are no "in-game" mechanisms in the pipeline to form what they're starting to call "corps" on ED. This will invariably come though and forming such bands outside of the game, as I'm suggesting, can be done.

Left hand not knowing what the Right is doing...

Depending upon interpretation and concept, The Black Hand can fill in between the different gameplay options quite nicely. Mustn't say too much, you the first rule of Fight Club, right?

Any would-be pirates going to FantastiCon? If ye drink more RUM than I, an Elder ye automatically be with The Black Hand! Arrrr!

It's a long way to Tiperary.

If only money, family, time, work, travel plans and my unwillingness to see a onesie wearer in real life were not in the way, I certainly might think about it.

Hmm...sounds like you really think some "clan" mechanics will be implemented later on. Where does this confidence come from?
