Obviously, some players haven't quite developed the skill to successfully filter players properly when accepting friend requests.

You know you have a choice right?

So, ultimately, its your own fault, maybe you should take some time and figure out who you should add as a friend and who you shouldnt.

Cant hold FD or other players accountable for your own actions right?

It doesn't work that way anymore, you can now block from the pending friends list. So you send a friend request add them to block and then withdraw the request.

Hey bingo searchable block function.

Hey bingo searchable block function.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is if the player being blocked gets any indication of that afterwards. Maybe Swizzy can shed some light on that.

Remember, this forum only considers an unexpected game mechanic as an exploit, if it aids PVP.

This isn't unexpected, its the logical evolution of the block function in response to organized and well publicized salt mining of explorers. Well done FDEV inspired design just like the modes.

Right, and those three hundred megathreads in the last few years about mining, trade, passenger and wing mission exploits are a figment of our imaginations.

To a clubber, everything looks like a seal.

wasnt the carebears who started this list making, it was the pvp groups who used to boast about having KOS lists. Fer ever action there is reaction and to me it simply says ye reap what ye sow...

As silly as KOS lists for out-of-game activities are, they don't affect instancing, and don't have side-effects related to instancing.

Most of the potential harm from the block function has little to do with the people specifically being blocked--if you don't want to play with me, I certainly don't want to play with you--it's those that find it more difficult to instance with others that would be accepting of such an instancing, but find players they have never and would never block being excluded from the instance they are in.

Especially as it's suppose to be, at least to my knowledge, an Opt-In pvp activity.

PP is no more a declaration of opting in to PvP than clicking 'Open'.

And now the Distant Ganks 2 crew learns a lesson that most of us did back in early childhood; if you can’t play nice, nobody will want to play with you.

I think if you go through the effort of making a giant spectacle of ganking random people, don’t be surprised when they block you. There’s literally a participant list for DG2. And the constant boasting in the forums with accompanying YouTube videos.

You reap what you sow

Blocking Exploit in Elite: Dangerous

2) All reference to names have been covered to prevent naming and shaming.
3) This has been redirected FROM the PvP section, to the General section by a Forum moderator.

I recently made a post referring to the current block exploit circulating in Elite: Dangerous, on the Frontier Forums. It was immediately brigaded by members of Fleetcomm.

....Which has even been advocated to be exploited by leader's of DW2, and Fleetcomm; in the Fleetcomm Discord server, with targeted blocking based on Open player's play style.

Why is this an exploit?

Because it is not intended by Frontier Developments that in order to block someone, you must abuse an exploit/ bug; by sending a friend request first, blocking the CMDR, then cancelling the sent friend request. This is because you haven't communicated, nor instanced with the person in the first place. So they can not possibly be a culprit of anything that would involve harassment, spam, or any of the other valid reasons for a block.

Why is this a problem?

This is a problem, because killing player's in Open Mode is a Frontier Approved game-play style. And allowing this exploit to continue results in people blocking, and relies on abusing a safe-space for Open Mode, based on incompetence, or lack of skill.

Furthermore, with the upcoming plans for 'Open Powerplay', this can be exploited by simply blocking instance with your opposition, rendering it utterly pointless.

**For example:**

'CMDR SociopathicGankerMan9000' can abuse this exploit by ganking a CMDR, but also blocking the inevitable 'CMDR LawfulBountyHuntingPlayer' ganking opposition that are opposing him in Open Play, which would normally result in emergent gameplay PvP.

What can be done about it?

All you can do, is simply participate in the bug reporting for this exploit, over on the Frontier Forums, do not brigade, or attempt to censor any opposing opinions, and rather state the facts, and allow for Frontier Developments to do the right thing, and patch this game breaking exploit.

i will simply use the argument you gankers use so much of the time.

Its possible to do so unless FDEV actually stop it from being possible to do its a legitimate thing to do.

Same as joining multi crew and deploying all the heatsinks and SCB's then launching a ship fighter and destroying the commander is a legitimate thing to do, as the game lets you do it.

Same as destroying a ship regardless if they have any cargo to pirate or are not wanted.

but how dare someone use the way the game is built to ruin your fun, it's not something you would ever do is it?

Do you mean all the stuff which was found and patched out?

The fact FDEV is slow to fix exploits is not in question here.

This, exactly.

It's not a surprising development, explorers not wanting to play with self-declared gankers. As soon as the activity got called "DG2" this kind of response was inevitable.
