There's been a late entry that was run last night from Cmdr. Clary_HK in the Unlimited Class, who was also our first console entrant on Playstation. There was a false start when the toast rack got in the way, the second one went much better but unfortunately Korniyenko was a tricky approach. We've said before that the lowest gravity planets can often cause the most hassle, and unfortunately there were a few issues with too fast for SC and Glide which set back the run a few minutes. The next couple of approaches were far smoother, but the Asp was struggling and the decision was made to Chicken out after a particularly painful landing at Baffin Planet. In total they finished only just outside the one our mark, but a well fought run it was.

For what it's worth (not as much now it's a minute and a half slower than the fastest time) ... here's a video of my Cobra run for your entertainment and enlightenment.
Thats true, indeed entertaining and for me really very enlightening. At least I've seen a lot of points where I lost seconds and minutes, starting with the initial boost sequence inside the station up to planetary approaching and the... uhmm... landing style...
E.g. I followed the usual rules and didn't push the pedal down to not get over 100... see ? The same applies for my landings even if I approached the station with more speed. At least until right in front of the mail slot. My planetary approaches are usually not that steep and fast. My landings, too...
Never thought of alternative "plan B" systems to evade obscured systems and followed the usual and slower "target the main star and SC until the target is not obscured anymore"-way... Lots to learn I guess and maybe I'll try that again to shave off some time and when I'm more up to shave off some paint or exterior parts or possibly destroy my ship...

Because that was my main goal this time, do it in a shieldless single run, no trials, no errors... and that worked out. 😊

The only thing I did before was visiting the different systems and bookmark the stations in my favourites. Just because I thought that would cost me too much time searching the next target manually...

Well, maybe next time, who knows... 😉 Thanks for the opportunity to take part in this race and of course the excellent presentation. A pleasure to read !

Glad you enjoyed it and picked up a few tips along the way, and bravo on hitting your main goal, no mean feat in itself! The whole "plan B" thing is particularly relevant to high-g worlds where it can takes ages to escape the gravity and start bringing your obscured jump into view. Basically, if it takes more than about 50 seconds then you're better off making an extra jump.

Well thats all over - what have we learned this time round

1. High G worlds - Suck
2. Still rubbish at getting a decent route plotted
3. Chicken Run is the Most frustrating race so far

Things to take away -

4. Recce, Recce, Recce the route and ensure you have plan B through Z (just in case)
5. Planetary Approaches at speed are hilarious even when they don’t pan out
6. Next time you meet Sulu in the mail slot – Go for the hit, instead of being gentlemanly and avoiding their craft, if for nothing other than making it to the blooper reel

That all being said, what another outstanding race week, fails and all,

Thanks to Ozric for organising, keeping the running commentary and putting up with this mad bunch of Cmdrs

Till next time

Have fun

High-G worlds and shieldless sprinting in Open, plus a chance to brush the dust of my beloved iEagle ... now that sounds intriguing. Maybe next time I'll join!

Next up we had Cmdr. Epaphus back in the Regulation class again and getting used to the difference between the Corvette and the Cobra. I'm not sure what his motivation was, and I'm not going to suggest it was to beat Psykit in both classes... but he took 3 and a half minutes off his previous best and jumped up two places into Fifth just ahead of Psykit.

Personal improvement of course ;)
but also yes, that was a bonus

Thanks for hosting the event, enjoyed it and apparently all the of the base raiding in Odyssey hasn't improved my planetary approaches.
With Livesplit run it was interesting to see how much time can be gained or lost on the approach.
