Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club presents: Signs of Life (9th May to 17th May 3306)

Today's update sees the same group of racers improving their scan counts and times, this time with a change in position. After refining his procedures, CMDR Elastul Ma'fer managed to scan 8 locations within the time limit in his Regulation DBX A Momentary Lapse, moving ahead of CMDR Alec Turner in the Less Fig Info, despite CMDR Alec Turner's improved race time of 30:26.This is closer than it seems and a single obscured jump might be all the difference. Well done CMDRs!
In Unlimited, CMDR Shaye Blackwood has improved to being able to scan 61 forms of life, breaking the scan a minute barrier - he might have had more but he had to relog on three occasions before the Blackbird's systems would show some NSPs. CMDR Shaye Blackwood's runs hinge on fast travel between locations, amongst other things, and there was some fine supercruise flying. I was also impressed by his ability to quickly hunt down Gourd Molluscs and distinguish between the different types of Metallic Crystals.
Some other racers have been spotted in Guardians space, so perhaps more times are incoming but for now participation is evenly divided between classes. Fly fast!

I seem to be having an issue that is unique in its stupidity. I keep launching..flying for x minutes and having no clue what time I launched. This does not make it easy in a time trial.
I think I best get my ships air system checked cos I seem to be losing cells.

A short update only today as only one new entry has been received, from CMDR Aken B. in the Regulation DBX flying the Toy Tricorder.
CMDR Aken B. managed 6 valid scans in the time limit and also narrowly survived a nasty impact in one location, leaving his ship with less than 30% hull remaining. Undeterred, he proceeded to make two flawless approaches in high-g environments afterwards, giving him a race time of 32:34.

A PSA is in order regarding the megaship ferry - Sadler's Song will shortly (Thursday 14th May, early morning, see the local announcements at the ferry ships for the exact timing) depart the Synuefe EN-H d11-96 system for Zende. The Conduit will at the same time depart Zende for this system. The new arrival is expected to orbit a different body upon arrival and may be closer to the jump-in point, so improvements in times are possible, indeed likely, from tomorrow. Please make sure you are docked or undocked as appropriate to take best advantage, or avoid an unnecessary trip back.

Really nice pictures Alec, and I imagine congratulations are also in order ;)
...
For now...

Also you reminded me I forgot to post a couple of photos. There really are some interesting places for discovering Biological Life

An early update today as this evening is going to be too busy for me to manage it then. There has been a single entry, with CMDR Alec Turner reclaiming the top spot in Regulation DBX on account of the faster race time, as both he and CMDR Elastul Ma'fer have managed the same number of scans. CMDR Alec Turner completed an early morning run that will be the last we see of Sadler's Song during the race as by now it will have been replaced by The Conduit and his enthusiasm was such that the Less Fig Info almost became entangled in a Roseum Brain Tree at his last stop. I hope you remembered to undock afterwards as you'll have to make the trip out there by yourself otherwise (it's not that bad in the 37LY Regulation DBX, though). Congratulations CMDR!

Another early update and again the only entry is from CMDR Alec Turner who has taken advantage of The Conduit arriving in orbit of the 4th planet to improve and manage one more scan, now up to 9, with only a small increase in race time. CMDR Alec Turner's pre-race research is certainly paying off as his run involves several cases of different life forms being scanned on the same world. Nice flying!
As the final weekend approaches, the potential for newcomers arriving with The Conduit as well as the megaship's location much closer in to the star than Sadler's Song suggests that more changes in leaderboards are in the offing but will anyone work out how to get such a large number of scans as CMDR Shaye Blackwood in Unlimited?

I tried to catch Mr. Turner this evening, but the first run was a write off because of now obscured jumps. So after some investigation and replotting I went again, I had a couple of lucky escapes with the ground thanks to some interestingly improvised manoeuvres and it was going to be very close as to whether I could make 9 in the time limit.
And then on the penultimate entry...
'Too fast for orbital cruise'

You have my sympathies sir ... I think that may be the most brutal message in the game! I'm in constant fear of it at the moment ... so much so that I'd completely forgotten about "interdiction detected" ... until it happened heading towards the finish line on one run!

Today's update sees improvements in both classes, with CMDR Aken B. in his Regulation DBX Toy Tricorder managing to take 2nd place from CMDR Ozric by achieving the same number of scans, 8, but returning to port faster, with a race time of 30:37. That is almost time for another scan, so there is not much of a difference between this entry and that of CMDR Alec Turner, who is narrowly holding onto the lead in this class. CMDR Ozric has been spotted on the course and is hoping to improve his scan count, so this class is very open going into the final day.
In Unlimited, CMDR Sulu has changed his approach to try and cover more locations with more forms of life, visiting a number of Lagrange Clouds, and he has returned to using his DBX The Crimson Haybaler. His scan total has improved to 16 as a result but CMDR Shaye Blackwood still has a commanding lead in this class.

Tomorrow, I shall try and do an early race update if there are any entries so everyone knows where they stand but I will not do an update in the evening. Instead, I will do an update on Monday with, hopefully, the final submissions all in and the race results ready to present.

And to think I fell for Aken's comical GIF of a man falling over! Have to say I suspected a concerted effort to catch me this weekend so I did try to increase my lead but alas I tried too hard (again).
