The "Can I Run Planet Coaster" thread

Yes, by lowering the setting you will experience a smoother framerate... but of course, it depends on how big you build your park!

A 960m should be able to play comfortably at medium, without going crazy on the park size - what CPU would that be?

I7 6700hq quad core. 16gb ram. Lenovo/msi laptop

That is the same as I am using... I would seriously consider getting a laptop with the new GTX 1060, much more powerful and it is not a cut-down graphics chip like the 'm' series currently is.

Check them out, you might only need to save up a bit more with you current budget.

Pentium G3258 @ stock 3.2ghz
Radeon HD 7770 1gb
8gb ram
I run games at 768p

I can run cities skylines at max without any problems. I hope I can run this game. What do you guys think?

It's going to really struggle I'm afraid. The Pentium G3258 is only a 2 core 2 thread part and this game loves its cores and threads. The GPU isn't ideal either however it possibly would be able to run at 768p at lower settings - I couldn't say that for certain however as I have no experience of AMD cards. Either way your CPU is going to really limit you in this game, I've tested this myself by allowing Planet Coaster to only use two physical cores and it was a sideshow, even with an overclocked processor.

Sounds good, could you or anyone else please suggest any websites other than save on laptops.co.uk to purchase from? My budget is around £900 at the moment and am struggling to find any with that cpu. Or I'll have to wait for the price to come down. Many thanks

Trying to decide if i should drop the $70 and give it a shot. I know i need to upgrade my graphics card but should this be enough to get started atleast? I can run Skylines fairly well.

Hi Medguy

I'm not to sure if anyone has replied to you yet or not.

The Graphics card, I had a Gtx 660 4gb I upgraded to the Gtx 980Ti 6gb, I found no difference within the FPS. I later found out that the game is CPU intensive. It's not the gpu. To get better FPS would be to get a quicker CPU.

The Devs have stated that the game will still need optimizing, I would personally wait till after release date, see how your computer runs it then, if it is still sluggish at a certain point in the game then you would need to upgrade your CPU and motherboard.

I have this game running on Icore 7 3770k 16gb ram, Samsung pro SSD, 980ti. I still get low FPS at just over 3000 guests in the park.

I hope this helps and saves you a little money.

Will I be able to run this with my current specs?

Can I run Planet Coaster on minimum requirements:

Hi there,

I`m about to buy a new computer as well - and I'm not sure about the graphic card - can someone give me a hint?

It'll be a Asus Z170 pro gaming with i7 6700k, 16GB Ram Hyper FuryX, SSD 250 GB.
The choice is between a

MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X6 G (6GB GDDR5) or
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Edition (8GB GDDR)

Thanks a lot for your comments!

Looks a lot like my new setup [happy]

The GTX 1060 6G is a nice graphics card (I have the MSI GTX 1060 ARMOR 6G), but if you want to do 4K in the future, you might want to go for the GTX 1070. The GTX 1060 is well capable for playing Planet Coaster, but if you also play other graphics intensive games, you might want to consider the GTX 1070.

Good luck with deciding. [up]

Both of you will be able to play Planet Coaster on low graphics settings, but those systems will get lower fps sooner than higher end systems, especially if you want to play with parks that are filled with many rides, coasters and scenery.

Well, 4k is not possible with my actual screen, so I'll go with the 1060 :)

I understand the game is CPU intensive, so would it be possible to upgrade my CPU on my laptop?

It might be possible, but whether it is depends on your laptop model. It will likely be difficult.

I recommend you first wait for the beta to see how Planet Coaster performs on your system. The beta will bring more optimisation into the game.

Hi, so I know laptops aren't preferable for heavy gaming, but for my needs I have to buy one instead of a desktop. Can I get some opinions on this setup? I'm looking for smooth fps. Also, I want a 17 inch but that one only comes with 12gb ram. The 15 " version comes with 16gb ram. I know it's an easy upgrade, but I don't want to void the warranty. Any opinions on if 12gb is good enough or do I really need 16gb? Thanks in advance!

MSI GT72VR

12gb ddr4 ram
gtx 1060 6gb ddr5

You'll likely be playing at High settings...maybe medium-high. I see no problem with this setup. That's a quad core with hyper threading paired with a good GPU. The 12GB of RAM is perfectly fine. You really want at least 8 GB. 12 is good. 16 is alright, but you probably won't use those extra 4GB under normal gaming and computer use.

I used to game on a 17 inch Gateway P7811-FX. It was great when I was at college! Huge, but still portable. Lightyears better than the POS Dell XPS Gen 2 I used to own. The portability of a laptop is so great when you need it. I'd recommend getting a laptop cooler though when doing serious gaming. It can be a big fan pad that sits under the machine or a dual-fan unit that props up the back.
