The "Can I Run Planet Coaster" thread

Hello guys,
I'm new here to the Forums and currently debating which gaming laptop I am supposed to buy for Planet Coaster. I sadly have very little knowledge about computer specs, so I am wondering of some pros could help me decide which option would be the best (if any is). Thank you so much in advance !! Cannot wait to play this game and create amazing parks!

1. Asus F550VX-DM445T Gaming
Intel i7 7700HQ (4x 2,8GhZ - Turbo 3,8)
16GB RAM DDR4
15'' Full HD
GeForce GTX 950M with 4096MB DDR5
979 Euro

2. Asus X756UX-4244T Gaming
Intel i7 7500U (2x2,7 - Turbo 3,5)
16GB RAM DDR4
17'' Full HD
GeForce GTX 950M with 2048 MB DDR3
998 Euro

3. MSI GL6M 7RD-077 Gaming
Intel i7 7700HG (4x2,8 - Turbo 3,8)
16GB RAM DDR4
15'' Full HD
GeForce GTX 1050 with 2048 MB GDDR5
999 Euro

Again thank you for your help!!

Hey Lukplan,

The third option is the best by far of those three. It should run the game without problems, probably around medium settings.

Thank you very much Chems for your quick reply!
1000 Euros for medium settings is not what I hoped for .. but I guess that comes with me buying a Laptop instead of a Desktop PC [squeeeeee][squeeeeee]
Wish you a nice easter weekend!

Yeah, laptops are more expensive than desktop PCs, but don't be turned off by the medium settings thing. The game looks gorgeous even on the lower settings, and I am sure with some tweaking the settings u can push to high. Just know that even with the best gaming PC out there, you will run into low fps at some point because the game allows you to basically add unlimited objects to your parks. Same for the amount of guests that enter your park (which you can limit). But that laptop is more than enough, so enjoy the game and happy Easter to you too. [happy]

Hello!! Gonna buy a new laptop, not a fancy one. Just for work and school but i wanna be able to play Planet Coaster.
Does one of these laptops meet the requirements?

1: Intel Core i5 4310U / 2.6 GHZ / 8GB DDR3 / Intel HD4400
2: Intel Core i5 4300U 4Th Gen. / 3.3 GHZ / 12GB DDR3 / Intel HD4600 Graphics
3: Intel Core i5 3210M / 3.1 GHZ / 12GB DDR3 / Intel HD4000 Graphics
4: Intel Core i7 2620M/ 3.2 GHZ / 12 GB DDR 3 / Intel HD3000 Graphics
5: Intel Core i7 3540M / 3.7 GHZ / 12 GB DDR3 / AMD Radeon HD7570M

Thanks!

The 5th one might be able to run PC but the experience will not be ideal. You should try to find a laptop with an intel i7 processor and at least a gtx 1050(m).

I have search for gtx 1050(m) and its gonna cost me at least 800 euro. Maybe i'm not searching right so i gonna continu with that. The 5th option i can get for 350 (discount price).

Laptops are just more expensive than regular desktop PCs, but personally I wouldn't risk it with any of the models you listed. Especially since laptop mobile hardware is already weaker than their desktop counterparts. 800 euro actually sounds pretty good for a laptop with an i7 and a proper GPU (1050(M) or higher).

Thank you for the advice. I'm gonna look for a laptop with i7 and GTX 1050.

IF you have 800€, buy a self-build desktop or let a good computer store build one for you. It will be way better than that laptop. And it is not a single purchase which will be old in 2 years where the desktop can still be upgraded for lesser costs than a new laptop.

manufacturers including hp must make at least $200 profit from every laptop they sell especially mac. if you go custom desktop you definetly will get more of your moneys worth. though laptops are better for school and uno since theyre mobile. but you can work from home using a desktop. hp and mac sell lots of overpriced laptops which dont even have a dedicated GPU and only dual core CPUs. HP dors sell an i7 7700k and gtx 1050 but those are like NZ $2200.

Yea but isn't hardware incredibly overpriced in New Zealand and Australia? [tongue]

I got the:
intel core I7-6700hq 16gb ram 2,60ghz(a bit low).
Nvidia GTx 960M

I can play at ulta settings and it still functions. But sometimes shows lag. When in medium it uses 100% gpu so its heavy on the gpu.

I would advice against pushing your hardware to its limits with a laptop. They tend to have sub-par cooling and overheat rather quickly.

Do you have the sources you have learned that from for me to read?

What would you say to be the safe operating tempature range for this cpu and Gpu?

At this moment(measured over 50 minutes of 100% gpu use and 75% cpu use) my gpu doens't get above 68 degrees celcuis and the cpu not above 77 degrees celcius.

I don't have a source, it's just what I've experienced with my friends' laptops. The temperature of your GPU does not seem too high. 77 degrees for your CPU is a bit on the higher side. I do not know your specific hardware, but these chips are built to withstand very high temperatures (often mobile chips can handle a bit higher temps than desktop chips) the GPU even more than the CPU. The problem, however, is that the hardware is all crammed in a tiny space with often not very good air-flow, so other parts of your laptop will experience these temperatures as well. So if you keep your laptop running at high temperatures it will damage over time. I would say 75 is the max you should go for the CPU and CPU for a laptop.

Of course this is all based on my friends' laptops. They have been using them for intense gaming, pushing their laptops to their limits. They are around 2 years old and their performance has significantly decreased. As an example, he used to play Battlefield 4 on medium settings at 1080p with around 80 fps. Now it barely runs with 30 fps on the lowest settings at 720p. But since it happened multiple times at least I am not taking any risks.

Refer to the manufacturer's website to find the maximum tolerated temperature for your CPU and GPU. My GTX 1070 has I think a 90'C max tolerance before it's starts throttling.

My custom PC is built in a Corsair 300r windowed case.
2 intake fans (1 front, 1 side)
2 exhaust fans (1 rare, 1 top)
1 CPU fan
2 fans on my EVGA GTX 1070 SC.

When playing this game on 1080p full screen Ultra settings with 6k people, including 20 security, 20 cleaners, 20 maintenance staff and 14 entertainers, with 20 rides and moderate scenery; I manage 24-36fps with my i7-6700k and 16GB DDR4 RAM. Since this is a heavily hardware testing game, my CPU runs at 49-64'C and the temperature fluctuates every second according to MSI Afterburner results. But it's only being 52% utilized. While my GPU is at more stable hang around temperature of 52'C. And my system is air cooled, not water cooled (I don't want to mess with water).

However desktops are better for gaming. As they have superior AIRFLOW, far better airflow than any laptop.

This sounds more like there fans/heatsinks are blocked from dust or dirt or something, this causes throttle on the chips. No chip looses just 50% performance by damage. These chips tend to work or not, if they are overheating too much, they just quit. [weird]

Hi I'm looking to buy the game and ive done some research on the requirements for the game and its saying the minimum required RAM is 8GB. would that be enough without any lagging etc... and Ive just bought a new all in one desktop for Christmas last year so its pretty up to date all I have to do is install a RAM of 8GB and a better Graphics card to the desktop to play planet coaster. could you please tell me more information if possible as ive read a lot of comments from people on the internet about this game and not many people are answering my question.
