This sounds very interesting! Might even be of relevance to solve the Formidine Mistery.
Yes. The Formidine Mystery. That which Commanders rarely speak of and only then in hushed tones. Indeed this expedition itself is somewhat mysterious in that none of us really seem to know exactly where we're going or what we're looking for yet. Let me see if I've got this right.
My understanding is that the expedition's search for candidate non-sequence stars that could be identified with SuperNova Remnant Cassiopeia A, will take us some 11,000 Light-years from the Bubble into the Formidine Rift, a sparsely-populated region of the Galaxy between the Perseus Arm and the Outer Arm. The stars in this region appear to be few and far between, with gaps of dozens of light-years in places, and to reach them dedicated long-range exploration starships will be required, plentifully loaded with jumponium. It looks like a really excellent place to get stranded, even with a jumponium range of 100+ L-y. Hence collecting much Polonium and Yttrium before leaving.
Furthermore, it is reported that the Formidine Rift is mentioned by Drew Wagar in his novelised history of the Prism War of AD3297, as containing a mystery more dangerous even than Thargoids. It certainly contains
something that is yet to be discovered, knowledge of which is rumoured to be suppressed by the Galactic Superpowers. However a number of prior expeditions into the Formidine Rift have so far found nothing so remarkable. An obvious clue is in the name
Formidine, a Latin noun taken from the verb
formidare, meaning to become rigid in the face of fear.
Have I understood correctly? Because I hope that expedition recruits understand it too.
