The Dead End's Circumnavigation Expedition

I saw this and thought it would be a great chance to get away from the bubble and gain some exploration rank so i would like to join the mission in my asp explorer.

Fast scanner vs. Long range scanner test

Did a test of the fast scanner vs. the long range scanner. Overall the winner is the fast scanner grade 5, except when scanning HIP 21123 where the LR G5 had a narrow lead which I did not expect. Downside to the FS grade 5 is the added weight which decreased my jump range by 0.21Ly.

The test was conducted in HIP 18625 & HIP 21123 with an unmodified DSS, grade 1 & 5 fast and grade 1 & 5 long range in Icarus (with the different DSS' applied) as full system scans and timings extracted for scanning the primary and one planetary scan (TTSS: Time to second scan). The TTSS timings are meant to simulate a CMDR scanning the primary and one shiny.

These were the results. The FS G1 for HIP 21123 scan (1402 seconds) looks off, expected value was about 1200, but I somehow managed to increase the time to scan by 7%:

Hmmm.... time to stop ing around and start hitting these engineers in anger. Best ship I have right now is a 39LY Asp, and that's just not going to bifurcate the hot yellow condiment.

I'm not sure if I'm going to officially sign up for this yet (might do just to get access to the Discord channel) but I'll certainly be attempting the trip, so I'll look out for you all on the way.

I'm off now to see if upgrading the Asp is worth it, of if I'll have to sell a few ships and get a conda...

the differences are all tiny! i'll do the math when i get back to my main account... but my spreadsheet says i did save approx. 10 minutes on my current 40k ly trip by fitting a G1 FS, and i could have gone up to saving 20 minutes scan time by going G5! that's almost 27 jumps of 721 :D ... almost 4% ...

Hi everyone, i am in 2 minds whether too sign up for this expo. I'm a keen explorer and been too many place, incl beagle point, but with 2.4 coming and the thargoids. Will there be anything to come back too in a years time lol.
Anyway i still might join up as it is something i have been thinking about for a while. Could someone please point me to a upto date roster on who and how many as joined.

Thanks and good luck too all CMDR's that are taking part..... o7

This is the roster for the Dead End's Circumnavigation Expedition (DECE).
Please add a post to this thread if you want to join us.

Please note that the roster will be closed when 2.4 goes live.

Piechart of Ships (updated 2017-09-11)

Actually I'll be taking my conda with me on this expedition (not sure if I'll have a SLF though...)...

Ship name is Pudgey :)

Sign me up. I don't mind a good fight but I think I'll see how others handle The Enemy when they arrive.

Name: Wrongway Mulligan
Ship Type: Explorer Asp
Ship Name: Travelin' Man
ID: WM-004
Max range: 42 LY
UTC -8 (U.S. West Coast)

Completely out of interest how many Cmdrs are installing a fighter bay for this trip? I am only losing 2ly range f I take one. Just wondered.
I am, since it's a long trip and want to maximize my enjoyment of it. It's not just a trip to achieve the distance and challenge etc, but also be fun.

I would love to join this expedition!
In fact, I have joined the forum to sign up.
I have a couple of concerns though.

1. I'm still a bit of a noob. I've stayed in solo since getting interdicted and ganked, by some "friendly person" in an FDL, on the very first time I left Trevithick Dock. So there is quite a bit I don't know (I.e. I've only just learned of jumponion from this thread).

2. I've been saving up for an anaconda (specifically to do a circumnavigation like this), but I've still only 270 mil credits and my current ship is a cobra mk 3, with no engineer mods. I really don't want to spend those credits on an aspX and have to begin saving up again.

I'd love to do this. I'd love to do it as part of a wing. But will I be able to make it? Any advice?

CMDR Wrobik Sennkil of the GCU Grey Area (currently saving for the GSV Sleeper Service).

270 mio is by far enough for an exploration conda - if you settle for a 7b fuelscoop instead of a 7a, and maybe take b-class afmu instead of a-class, you'll end with ~190 mio.

i just would suggest that a) you fly the conda first before deciding to spend a year in it, as quite some commanders hate it for its supercruise handling and landing characteristics (i personally like it above the AspE, but i'm taking a DBE for this trip) and b) that you anyway do a short exploration tour with at least 150 jumps, that's around 3000 ly and back in an unengineered conda. the circumnavigation will take over 9 month...

generally you'll find always helpfull very seasoned explorers in the expeditions discord, so you'll learn a ton. i wouldn't care about credits, because upon return we'll all have data worth 600 mio/cr and more. but whether you are already up for such a trip, only you can tell. it took me personally triple elite and over two years to get ready for this!
