The Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) | A FleetComm Initiative

I have considered signing up to the project.....however, with the uncertainty of what the New Era is going to be, a 1-2 year sign up may prove a little 'rich' until the Era is announced.
Pity really, because I doubt that I'll be doing much in the meantime.

Looks like I will move #44 deeper into the Outer Orion Spur region to better cover the area between other FCs...

Also I would like to suggest that the final destination is subject to change for a while cause after arrival and some survey we may find a system with a breathtaking view, a quadruple Tritium spot or whatever which will make it more attractive for the DSSA compared to the planned dest.
eg final destination is subject to change for a month and a radius of 500ly or such borders before its set in stone for 1,2 years...

Hold off on that move if you had your heart set on GCRV 6100, we are planning to move 84 closer to the left side of the sector, sort of in the region of OUTE in the sectors name tag.

Apologies for the ignorance, but I'm not familiar with the details on how the carriers' economy will work.
Is there anything regulars can do to keep the stations supplied or help with the upkeep?

My understanding is, for this specific project, that you put in all of the upkeep money upfront so that there is no chance for the carrier to be decommissioned during the deployment period. Having said that there will be some income from Universal Cartographics and possibly some other services too depending on what you have fitted.

You can donate tritium or sell stuff at loss/buy stuff overpriced.

Cool, this way I have reason to head out into the black again, with oversized ships. I guess there will be a spreadsheet that may list those carriers that are most in need of a little support regulars can provide.

Oh, and depending on outfitting you can hand in your UC data at a loss, which goes to the Carrier funds.

Is there still a possibility of being added to the reserve list? I didn't sign up initially as I wanted to give it some thought before committing, but given the recent addition of UC, and some of the changes in Beta 2, I would like to lend a FC for this project.

I just got my second for the afternoon "No free spot" message when I tried to plot to a system deep in the Sangineous Rim on my way to Kepler's Crest. What does it mean, a glitch or what? Have scouted the systems a while ago and they are nothing special, regular stars, last system a F2Vb and a K3Va star.

I understand that signups are on hold but I would really like to volunteer for this. I have the credits to commission and upkeep a FC for 3 years and the wingmates to help get her from build to the destination. I would be open for deploying into any part of the galaxy that could use another FC.

The DSSA is a very ambitious undertaking and its likely that not all Carriers that are initially sent out into the depths will make it, nor stand the test of time. But some will, and those that do will hopefully become established and well known POIs - laying the foundations for planned events to come. eg..

GMP recognition;
  • The Galactic Mapping Project (GMP) will be adding DSSA Carriers to EDSM as 'points of interest'- they'll be marked as deep space outposts on the galactic map subject to the following conditions;
    • Your Carrier will need to commit to at least 2 years DSSA service in a fixed location to be awarded GMP POI recognition.
    • Your Carrier name must conform to the GMP naming stipulation guidelines.
    • To prevent the maps from being cluttered with too many Carrier POI's, the GMP will limit DSSA Carrier POIs to one per region for smaller regions, and two per region for the largest regions. This will be done in chronological order with the first sign-up for a particular region being given priority.
    • Additional DSSA Carriers in a particular region that do not receive a POI marker on the maps, will instead be fully referenced (inc. system location) in the POI description text of the primary DSSA Carrier POI for that region.
Future benefits for supporting the DSSA;
  • All DSSA Carriers could become well-known staging posts for deep space travellers and expedition organisers to utilise when planning their journeys, as well as potential mining outposts; where miners get to ply their trade in some of the remotest and visually stunning mining locations so far discovered.
  • If the aforementioned mining outposts become popular, then DSSA Carrier locations may become hubs for the establishment of micro colonies (if the rumoured base-building becomes a thing).
  • Additionally, the establishment of deep space supply and trade routes for players wishing to help keep the Array up and running will be encouraged via this project and other events to follow.
  • The launch of each DSSA Carrier as its sets off on its maiden voyage will be an event in itself. And each mission that is sent out will provide opportunities for players to take part in the logistics of getting these behemoths to their respective destinations.
  • Finally, the DSSA will be the foundation on which DW3 will be built upon - and more details of this will be announced once FDev reveal information on the 'new era' update.

There is a lot of potential emergent gameplay and events to attempt with this new content via the ideas community members have come up with. Whether they prove viable or not is yet to be seen, but one thing the Elite Dangerous exploration community has proven over the years, is its ingenuity and tenacity at getting the best out of whatever content its given.

Please support the DSSA Initiative if you can, whether that's to provide a Carrier itself (speak to Qohen about that!), or logistical support in helping set up the Array, or helping with some distant trade and upkeep maintenance to whichever Carrier happens to be in your neck of the woods when you're out in the black.

Have scouted the systems a while ago and they are nothing special, regular stars, last system a F2Vb and a K3Va star.

I had about a dozen on my trip to Cygni X-3. The error message looks to be related to one of the changes mentioned in the patch notes for beta 2: It is no longer possible to select star ports or asteroid belts as targets. All my "no free slots" messages were for binary or bigger systems where either of the following applied:
a) The "A" and "B" stars were really close to each other. A 10 LS separation blocked the fleet carrier jump, a separation of 62 LS allowed the jump.
b) The "A" star had an asteroid belt.

If you can reach the system with a normal ship and FSS it, you can usually tell your fleet carrier to jump into the orbit of one of the system's planets or moons (if those exist).

At the moment, it is not clear if this is a bug or intended behaviour. There is a bug report for this but no feedback; we will have to see what we will get when the update drops. I've already asked spansh to adjust his fleet carrier router to avoid the systems in question.

Ahh, I was wondering about it. Tried a couple of giants to jump to, took a while until I found one that worked.
I hope this gets resolved somehow that the carrier then gets placed around a planet instead, or in an orbit around a binary pair.

We have finalised the position of #84 at SYNUEFUAE CM-J D10-42, much closer to the bubble side of the sector, so you're welcome to look again and see if GCRV 6100 is an aceptable distance from us.

I'm a little late to the party, but would there be any point to FC "taxi service" at the far ends of the galaxy? Or setting up two FC in pairs as a ferry service to the outer reaches beyond jumponium Anacondas?
Basically allowing those without 70+LY jump ranges to see the very limits of the galactic rim. Hell there could be a leapfrog style FC ferry service that transits all the way across to Beagle Point and beyond if you have enough FCs signed up.
Might make it a reason to sign up as many CMDRs and their FCs as possible.

DSSA is a group of static FC - probably the taxis will have their own thread(s) :)

Will there be a map made that visually shows the location of all DSSA carriers? This would be very useful for us explorers who wish to utilize these carriers. Or alternatively, is there a way to show these on our own galaxy map in the game itself?

Well, there's the first post :D But for automatically updating maps: EDAstro is going to have a map that shows all carriers which's CMDRs upload to EDSM, and the in-game galaxy map can also show you where carriers are. Within the constraints of it though.

For manually updating ones, the GMP on EDSM will show some of the carriers, the primary club - and for a full version, there's the first post.
