Ships The Dolphin Elite Club

The Dolphin is a great little ship, just about perfect for sightseeing missions. It's my third favorite ship in the game, just behind the DBE and Asp X, yet a tad above the Keelback.

Here's a couple pics of mine, the Wayward Fin. I'm not playing Elite right now but when I come back I'll be buying the new Wayfarer paint pack for her.

I'm sitting on about 20mil after coming back to elite a couple weeks ago and participating in the past couple trade CG's. I'd like to pick up a new ship, and I'm starting to lean towards a Dolphin. Taxiing passengers around seems like a nice change from trading, but similar enough (I do love trading in my Type 7). So do you have any advice for a first time Dolphin owner? I should have enough credits to get the necessary internals, right? What type of cabins are best, which passengers should I go for? I'm going to pick it up once I get home from work, and I look forward to figuring it out, I'd just like a head start :p

I honestly havent touched my dolphin in almost a month. A cute lil ship which introduces you to passenger missions, but too tiny for me at this point. I make more money from my aspX doing passenger missions. Especially since my aspX can jump further, hold a larger fuel tank, and carry a larger fuel scoop.

I love mine. It's my endgame ship. I wish I didn't feel so light in the loafers for flying it. I mean it's a Dolphin, not a Shark or a Killer Whale, its a Dolphin. It even sounds like one when you hit the jets, lol. I used the Asp and Python for so much that I'm sick of them. This time around it went from the Sidey to the Dolphin and I believe I'm done buying ships. Ok maybe the Anaconda for exploration at some point because I love the big three. Right now its my multipurpose ship and that's the way its going to stay. CHIRP CHIRP

I once started an exploration run with my Conda and after 3kLy i was so tired of her supertanker style handling in SC that i turned around and changed back to my AspX. And then the Phin came out.... Phinnies rock !!!

I got myself a Dolphin as a "starter" exploration ship... I don't think I'll get anything else, I love this little thing! [heart]

Here she is star-basking, love the ship so much I painted her gold (and she has two gold SRVs too), unlocked my first ever engineer, and gave her a G5 range-modded FSD. She'll now jump 42.5ly and I'm already back out around 2500ly from Sol in a couple of hours of jumping [big grin]

I know how you feel!! Despite buying and enjoying upgrading a number of ships that she has paid for I still keep flying my Dolphin "La Phin". I just enjoy flying her. They are great for exploration and a very underrated ship, love mine. Safe travels Commander.

I know, I bought mine with the intention of her being a stepping stone to an AspX (I remember reading a short story that came with Frontier back in the day about a couple of people off exploring for ELW's in an AspX and I was going to replicate it) but, despite my initial intentions, there's no way I'm replacing her.

Bling bling in case of aliens, gotta look fly yo!

24B has been out in the black for a while!

I've had a refit and just set off to revisit some of the systems I passed through on the way to Beagle with Distant Worlds.

13A also has a Dolphin as his explorer, although not as heavily used as this ;)

That's one of the best shots I've seen of the Dolphin yet; the angle and colour temperature do wonders for the gold livery, too.

Not got a Dolphin yet, but I think I will pick one up, buy the gold skin and upgrade it later.

Wow! Put a few Lys on her then. Time for a paint job I would say.

Any issues with her on the trip? Any changes/load out suggestions?

I've found she's a great little vessel, everything else is just gathering dust, simply great ship to fly.

I can't say I've had any issues with Dolphins whilst out in the black.

These are my builds

13A

24B

13A is a jack of all trades, so it's not a full explorer build, but the range is ~40ly.
24B is the dedicated explorer so most things are lightweight and/or low emission. Range is ~45ly.

heat on planets is still an issue and unfixed bug (beginning of vid the dolphin overheats just touching the controls, at 1:30 approx. I cant overheat for love nor money - even boosting)

but I still travelled the whole galaxy and back in mine and it still had 100% hull and 100% modules upon return

Your 24B is pretty much the same build I'm running, except I have a 4G SRV bay (moved the 3D shield to the 3 slot, put a 2A auto repair in), a mining laser, and two heat sink launchers. The mining laser is in case I ever get stuck and need some stuff for an FSD boost in a system with no germanium on landable planets, and the heat sink launcher has already saved my life once when I landed slap bang in the middle of a close binary pair and nearly got heat death in a matter of seconds. Lowers the range slightly but I'm loving the ~42ly so I'm not that bothered :)

I have to say that the only time I noticed the heat bug was during the Beta.

I'm going to have a play tonight and see if I can get it to happen. Is there anything in particular that seems to trigger it?
