Ships The Eagle is fun to fly

The Eagle and Sidewinder are joys to fly, engineered or not. A D rated Eagle or Sidewinder makes a great local runabout. The Adder would join that list, except for the cockpit.

I have this build with three focused burst. Wanted a no-ammo setup.

Does anyone know if three efficient would be better? Then I could leave 1.5 pips in weapons and rest in engines / shields instead of 3 in weapons as with the focused.

I think I lose a lot of hull damage with the efficient vs focused though.

Actually I'm flying a Imperial Eagle on PS4, I always loved the small ships!

Btw, they could release new small and fast ships too, maybe extra Racing Ships, or even Racing SRV's after Atmos Release!

We have so many planets already, let us Edit Race Tracks on them, just give us the tools Frontier, like Ubisoft did with the map Editor since Far Cry 2, for example!

Great idea. I generally prefer the small ships anyway. Haven't been able to bring myself to do much Engineering nor mess with the Guardian tech yet.

A high-end small ship in the 100M credit range would be pretty awesome, especially if it could avoid some of the Engineer/Guardian meta progression gameplay that doesn't really do it for me.

...

My current hanger:

Eagle – surface reconnaissance scouting and exploration (my favorite ship to pilot in the game)
iEagle – ???
Cobra Mk III – general purpose exploration
Diamondback Explorer – long jump fringe exploration
Dolphin – showboating well-off passengers around in
Vulture – hybrid combat capable exploration ship (my favorite ship to use in general in the game)
Python – multirole hauler

There aren't really any other ships I want in the game at the moment (too sluggish for my tastes). A high-end small ship would be nice to sink some credits into. :)

Great to hear the new engineering and guardian modules have given new life and gameplay to the eagles. If that isn't indirectly gamechanging a bit for ED, then stick to NMS hill-hoppin'.

Their new thrusters that came with the Engineers was enough; actually Engineering them is just to keep up with the then new meta regarding viability, though of course more agility and speed is a good thing in general.

"A High-end small ship" he says, "too sluggish" he says - and misses the fastest and only truly high-end small ship in the Galaxy from his list?

If you haven't flown an iCourier, you don't know what a high-end small ship is. You could say she's what an Eagle wants to be when it grows up. Of course, like with any other ship nowadays, you need a little bit (or not so little) of Engineering to make her truly shine, and a few scraps of Guardian technology also won't come amiss. I'm also really tempted to go for a Guardian Gauss Cannon, although the unmodifiable mass still puts me off.

Meet Midnight Tango in her combat outfit. Currently, I'm at Rebuy Prospect for the race, but afterwards, I'll strip her again for >40 ly jump range and make a run for the Gnosis (where i've stocked the scouting gear) to join the expedition again.

Up to a few weeks ago, my only small speedster was the iCourier, great for data runs and the such, especially after I got the thrusters engineered.

Then I decided to move homes but only wanted to take part of my fleet. Once settled I decided I needed a little runabout, decided on the iEagle, yep love it, will now be a toss up between the two (iCourier and iEagle) if I every get my small fleet back in one spot.

I love the eagle too. It's just unusable in a realistic context. It's one of the undiscussed issues with the game that everyone is flying around in huge ships as a default. It's really daft.

Or small ships as throwaway ships, which is likewise unfortunate. Not everyone is though, of course.

Yes, I suppose I'm somewhat handicapping myself by preferring to use small ships, but then I haven't lost a ship since 3301 (2015), so not all that much. I can only presume that some people just want to loaf around in Open or something. Not really why I play the game, but to each their own.

That being said, effectively using the Cobra Mk III at CGs or as a rum running rares trader in Open in 3301 was a fair bit of fun – something I probably wouldn't do these days in the game.

Hi, not sure what you mean, but I tested my Eagle last night in HAZ-res and not one ship managed to get my shields down, Big and small ships. So its def usable as bounty hunting.
Use three lasers and its a non-stop:)

Assassination missions are no problems

Hmmm....

You're cheating ;)

No rank needed. I don't care who makes the ships so much as how I go about getting them. I got it at Jamison Memorial without any ranks.

If it makes you feel any better, I still can't go to Sol in the game either.

Fully engineered and with 4 Guardian shield modules :)
Anacondas, Dropships, clippers...they dont stand a chance in the HAZ res

My main ship is an Eagle MK 2 with 69 points of shield and 700+ boost - lots of fun in CZs and HAZ-RES. I haven't tried the guardian shield boosters yet, but it sounds interesting ... one size 1 would nearly double my shields, and I should stay above 700 boost (that is not negotiable). Thanks for the headsup, I haven't really looked into them yet and should have the mats to unlock them.

No problem, glad to share some info :)

69 shield sounds like a death gamble :) but it depends of course on the play style. I tend to be extremely offensive. Defeat them before they can hurt me is my style

In VR the Eagle is extra nice since the HUD in the cockpit and side panels are much closer increasing the clarity of the image

I died once in the last year in my eagle (don't manually scoop while under attack by a chieftain) - but I tend to put survival first, kills second - if my target has a clear firing solution on me, I did it wrong. Shields go offline rarely, any damage regenerates fast, just don't let a railboad get a salvo in - if you fly predictable they will nail you.

Sometimes you are unlucky - if the shields drop, I boost away and go silent running. 90% of the time I return to base because the rails run dry, 10% because of damage (<60% hull, or engines damaged). I try to avoid Vipers, since they are quite tanky for their size, and try to alpha strike fighters. A heat sink takes the heat off me in a CZ, dropping me off the radar if I become famous suddenly. Against missiles it helps too, or I just outrun them.

I definitely agree with the VR cockpit ... so beautiful.

I have FAS and FGS for combat, but it's more fun in my Eagle Gossamer II

My build is based on an idea by YinYin to use a tiny shield that regenerates really quickly if you get hit. Full thread here

I am flying the iEagle from time to time, but that only because the cockpit-view from my adder is to restricted (same weapon layout but one more utility)
- recently outfitted for thargoid scout hunting and training hitting with fixed weapons -> too bad there is no small AX missile launcher :(

thanks for the hint with the shield booster - have to try my regular eagle vs scouts using those next time (with efficient beams multicannons then...)

I am terrible in CQC, mostly because (I tell myself so at least) I cant get a match going. If you know of a reliable way to have some CQC fun, I'm ears! :)

I am even worse, but sometimes I can pull out good results. Fun is the fact that in CQC reverse throttle is much faster then in main game, so You can pull out star wars stunts (and brake the joystick).

Point is, now deathmatch needs as low as 2 players to start. Tried at different times of the day, there were always 3-5 players and in the evening full 8 players match no problem - no waiting.

I run a similar build, beam for burst, chaff and a 3A AFMU. Smart use of chaff and silent running if shields pop is more than enough to keep you in the fight.
As long as you get the AFMU repair sequence down it's a tough lil nugget.

I recently re-outfitted my eagle with 2 guardian boosters (wanted 3, but ran out of power). I ended up with 270mj shields and 250 armor with 30% resists all around.

build (close enough anyway, most of the parts are still legacy, and yes I wanted green shields on it)

I tried it in the CZ earlier... doesn't nearly have enough firepower. Looking for ideas on that one, though I don't really want to lose my healing effectiveness.

Build?
I'm always interested in what other people are running. Also always nice to see someone using a small ship as their main. [up]

replace the burst laser with either a high-capacity multicannon or frag with corrossive secondary.
the damage boost of that debuff will be significant for any strikes with the beam laser
