Ships The Eagle is fun to fly

I built mine like this: https://s.orbis.zone/7j7

Great fun in a high intensity combat zone in VR. I went with rapid fire so it's like it has laser machine guns.

Probably not the most effective build out there, but if you're going for that you shouldn't be flying the eagle anyway.

I tried it in the CZ earlier... doesn't nearly have enough firepower. Looking for ideas

Two small railguns with super penetrator to reduce heat and short range for more DPS plus effective beam with thermal vent to dump heat. Had this configuration on my Viper and it used to be very effective.

You would get something like that: https://s.orbis.zone/7-w

Just look how much more DPS it has in comparison to your build.

But.. that's an Imperial Eagle. (not the same thing)
I stuck a PA on mine with racing build. (legacy mods still, so just short of 900m/s) [cool]

Both eagles are pretty much the same. One just has more maneuverability while the other has more speed.

The DPS in this build is anyway coming from two small railguns. The beam is used mainly to dump heat and, I believe, the size of the laser doesn't affect heat dumping that much. So in the aspect of armament both eagles would be almost the same.

The build can easily be applied to regular eagle, you'll just have to overcharge power plant more.

Sorry, did you say 900? How do you manage to squeeze 900 m/s out of non-imperial eagle?

Thermal vent's rate of thermal ventage is directly related to it's thermal load. So, all things being equal, the larger beam will dump heat faster.

Since your setup is shield focused, I'd recommend the lightweight mod for the beam turret as this will reduce distributor and power load without reducing thermal load, keeping thermal vent as effective as practical.

wait,
does that mean a small short-range modded laser will make my ship freeze even better :D

This thread has made me feel really stupid. I bought an Eagle last night, thinking an Eagle was an Eagle, I just assumed it was the Imperial variant. I engineered it (coming from a T10, have them mostly unlocked), had a short test flight and loved it. Plan to practise FA-off combat in it. However now I am not sure what I have bought, I was after an Imperial Eagle!

Can't get back on the game until tonight, but hoping now that the internals are the same, as if I have bought a non-Imperial Eagle then I'll want to swap my engineered internals over to that.

In terms of loadout, it's three efficient fixed beams, engineered bi-weaves, HRP on the other slots. Engineered FSD gives me 26ly or so IIRC. Fun little ship. Just hope I bought the right one!

Odd that there's no Owners' Club for these. Everything else seems to have one.

The ieagle has a class 3 powerplant instead of a 2, and one of the hardpoints is a medium instead of a small. Otherwise identical.

Phew. Thank you!!

(The power plant was one of the few bits I didn't engineer as it didn't need it. Can always stick my spare small efficient beam on something else.)

If you don't need the extra power, you might as well go with a 2A plant and save weight.
Good point, I'm newish to small ships (T10 pilot) so don't think about that side of it enough. Could even overcharge the 2A if I needed to, would still be lighter than the 3A. Thank you for the thought.

I bought the Eagle as I felt I needed to improve my small ship skills in something which required compromises, improve my loadout skills and practise fixed weapon combat. Seems I was right to think I need to improve my small ship game!

Thank you for taking the time.

The Eagle is more maneuverable and the iEagle is faster. The Eagle is the real Eagle and the iEagle is an Imperial variant (it was released later after the game's release), though fortunately no rank is required to get it. Both are good for slightly different reasons.

I meant in terms of module compatibility so they could transfer their kit between one and the other, not their other stats. :p
