This is not the first thread on this topic. If we were all doing something wrong, or if there was a fundamental misunderstanding, I feel that @Michael or some other dev would quickly correct us. Compared to bug fixes, posting clarification details to the forum is quick and easy. I have to conclude that it's bugged to hell.

Reputation

I know doing missions increases Rep, but how about Bounties or Trades ? I noticed one of the stations I sell rares at has become allied. I also did a couple of bounties. Must be the trade level, yes ?

I now believe I was affected by some bug that prevented reputation loss from bounty kills. Some time after I started this thread, the things I described in the OP changed and reputation started behaving like everyone else has always been describing it. Call me paranoid, but FD may have seen this thread and fixed the bug throwing me into what I would like to call from now on Bounty Hunter Hell. I can really feel for you all now.

There is the new community goal in tanmark, to hunt bounties. It is utterly frustrating having to check dozens of ships in order to find one ship that finally is of the criminal faction Tanmark Posse, and doesn't belong to a local corporation or, worse yet, the one that belongs to the Empire. I really wanted to do this community goal and participate all the way until the end. But after 3 hours I am already fed up. I lose probably three quarters of all bounties because the ships are under that magical protection of their factions. The only alternative is to see my reputation with all but the local authority faction ruined, and my Empire reputation wrecked at the same time.

(It's also odd, though working just as described by the devs, that wanted ships which belong to the system authority faction, do not yield a reputation loss because "it is their faction that issued the bounty". Such a weird, 4th wall breaking game mechanic.)

This really needs to stop, it can't go on like this. Either make it so that any legal faction (i.e. not "unfettered") accepts the law and you don't lose rep with them for taking out the bad apples out of their ranks (why do they all even employ actual "give me your cargo or I kill you" pirates in such large numbers?). Or, at the very least, if FD is adamant that this ought to stay this way (why?), shows us clean and clearly in the target UI (not the contacts panel, too cumbersome) whether at least part of the bounty has been issued by their own faction, in other words, whether we are actually allowed to kill the ship and it is not just a reputation killer trap.

P.S.:
And i prefer the Elite system, if it ever was in place - kill a faction member - they hate you, even though they were wanted. You know, loyalty in space and all.. So i have to choose carefully, who to kill using the KWS, not blow up everything that flies mindlessly.

It would be fine if those were the exception, not the norm. But currently you have to heavily cherry-pick the rare few ships that belong to actual criminal organizations, all the time. It nice that in 1.2 we will see the target's faction in the target panel, at least, but it doesn't solve the underlying issue.

Also, it is absolutely strange, quite disturbing indeed, to see an innocent freighter attacked by a pirate and being unable to help because the pirate belongs to a totally legit company which doesn't have a clue what their employees do in their free time. Like, I am there with the guns and everything and watch the freighter die because I am the one being punished if I dare to help. So much for that.

I would like a clarification on this as well. Our actions need to have consequences, all of that is good... still, taking down a ship that is wanted (which here means they are an outlaw, you are free to destroy their ship and you get rewarded for doing so) in a given system, surely people in that system shouldn't in general hate you for taking them down. At least the big power blocks shouldn't. It's ok for a Federal aligned subfaction to be upset when you claim the bounty on one of their ships, but the Federation itself should still be neutral about it, or even compliment you for doing your job as a bounty hunter and culling the desperado herd.

If the faction has a station, trade is the biggest factor in your reputation - trade in to the station. The value of the goods is important. I got allied to a station faction with ~2,000,000cr in trade.

Missions and warzone participation affect reputation with the faction that commissions them.

Going allied with the faction that owns a station (can be a minor faction in the system) reduces repair costs. If you are friendly or allied with a galactic faction (Empire, Federation, Alliance), all minor factions aligned with them wil be friendly.

You list two positive benefits.

1. Repair Cost decrease

2. Demand Price Increase.

I cant tell if 1 is in effect. I am allied with a faction. But I have seen no change in trade price since day 1. Are you sure?

For those who haven't the time to read the whole document, here's a summary:

Combat should provide a progressive role to allow pilots to gain more credits and get access to bigger, better missions as they gain combat ranks (Harmless through the Elite).

For Bounty hunting, the value for a bounty should increase by 25% for each rank the commander gains.

For example, they kill a Python that is normally 80k and these are the values they'd get for the following ranks:

  • Mostly harmless: 80k
  • Harmless: 100k
  • Novice: 125k
  • Competent: 156k
  • Expert: 195k
  • Master: 244k
  • Dangerous: 305k
  • Deadly: 381k
  • Elite: 477k

I won't quote the whole of your TLDR post, much less the longer one (which I read with interest)

I like your idea of bounties and rewards scaling with combat rank, though i suspect the 25% compounding bonus per rank propose is too generous and would lead to bounty hunting being far too lucrative. But that is picking at the detail rather than the concept, and i think it is a great concept. +1 rep and thank you.

On a side note I think the "merger fervour" in this forum is a bit excessive, threads like yours should be allowed to run their course and merged only when they run out of steam imo. I would not have seen your post buried in this large thread except that it was linked in another conversation. Merging into a large post like this just makes ideas disappear, no-one is going to read through threads this long.

Trying to gain reputation by destroying opposition.?

Hi there,

I'm not really into trading, but I think the combat in ED is great...
So I was trying to increase my rep with the purple drug empire by killing the authorities and or other wanted ships in their system, but it does not seem to help me get on their good side.

Even if I help their wanted ships which are under attack by others they still scan me and see me as a target if I have cargo.

Should helping their ships out not give me rep boost.?

Is there any way to earn credits from a faction by destroying their enemies?

Bounty Hunting Reputation 1.2 :(

Hello,

Since Update 1.2 Wings i think Bounty Hunting is now useless. Why? Always is Kill some Wanted or Collect Bounty i get negative Reputation :( So i love my Reputation and don`t want be Hostile.

So whats now? Back to Boring Space Trading? Mining (lol)? Or Kill Mission?.. Oh wait Kill Missions give also Negative Rep... or Delivery Missions thats very usefull with a 200+ Cargo Ship... I`m Frustrated.

I think Wanted Targets should not give Reputation anyways.

You'll always get some negative rep from the group whose ship you blasted, but I haven't noticed anything getting worse at all. But I will keep an eye out for that, just in case.

An earlier patch actually had a note that said something to the effect of "no rep loss for killing wanted targets" so I guess it's a bug they reintroduced.

I found your post rather rough to read.

Anywho, yeah.. if the faction hits remain then I'll just hunt in Fed space until I become completely hostile and then go nuts and start dropping fedsec ships off in the gravity well of nearby stars.

With 1.2 you can easily see the factions of the targets so you can just choose to kill the pirate factions you don't care about. You also never lose reputation if the target is wanted by its own faction.

Personally, I found playing 1.2 beta, bounty hunting was a really fast way to gain reputation. I played less than three hours and got the entire Empire to Friendly from zero (since live faction rep didn't copy over).

Yeah Sorry for my Swiss-German-English :)

Yea right but Today i was with a Friend in a Strong Signal Source and Kill the 7 Ships and the Scan Shows "No Fraction | Wing 7/7 | Wanted" and after we got negative Reputation in Federation.
