The Eve Online Thread

Why? So you can say you were there and part of it. Its like a party rave basically just with ships. There is some strategy at the top end but really its an excuse to blow billions of isk in a few hours for the sake of it (and maybe a bit of territorial control). Those with the most isk and numbers win the day normally.

You have to remember that with this, its all done via Teamspeak as well. Once your ships gone "phoof!" you end up sitting on the side lines chatting rubbish or popping (podding) yourself to a cryovat to get a new body and ship to get back into it. Its also a place to show off all those skills you've spent years training in via Cap ships and titans.

Some find it fun. :)

But you've seen the video? It looks like a shoal of fish, covered with an mikado.

after seeing it, i might just try out for the 14 days. But that'll be it, Iv'e got CS to keep me going while I wait for ED. And I don't even have time for CS with rennovating a house.

It's doubtful a 14 day mess about will get you anywhere near a battle such as that. Closest your going to get is a busy night in Jita whilst out shopping. :) Other than that, you'll just end up splattered and podded on a gate camp whilst trying to get out to one of these events. :) enjoy!

You make EVE sound like such an appealing game to play! ;)

Eve: Valkyrie

I posted about this in the Oculus Rift Owner's Thread but think it probably deserves a thread of it's own.

CCP had previously demoed a developer's "free time" space dogfighting game called EVR. This went down so well at the Eve Fanfest and other trade shows that CCP are bringing it to full product development, due for release in 2014.

You can find some clips of EVR on Youtube.

One of the many game site articles about the news - http://www.pcgamesn.com/eve/eve-valkyrie-impressions-zomg
The official website - http://evevalkyrie.com/

Both the above show the trailer for the game and, brief as it is, it looks pretty damned good to my eyes! This is in no way direct competition for ED, it really is CoD in space by the looks of it, but coupled with the Rift I think this is going to be amazing. Another article has the headline "the game that will sell a million Rifts" - perhaps slightly optimistic, but depending on the final price point of the Rift, maybe not.

What I like about it is that it's been designed from the ground up for the Rift, unlike Star Citizen and ED which say it will be supported/considered, respectively, but not a primary consideration. That's perfectly reasonable of course - the Rift isn't even big enough to be considered a niche product yet, seeing as only developer kits with low resolution are available... but it bodes well for the device, and I can't wait to play it! :)

It's all good moar space ship games yay :) Oh and will us space-sim fans actually be over-sated with all the recent space games being released? Hmm not sure on that one.

A Old Friend Of Mine....

Is trying to get me interested in Eve-Online and I am already sort of interested in the game, but I think they want me interested to the point of no longer being interested in Elite or Elite - Dangerous. Well, that's just my impression.

Anyway, I've been trying to get them interested in Elite -Dangerous as they used play to Elite on my computer back in the 80's. But I guess, even with all it's new bell n whistles. They're just been too jaded to be impressed by any more space/combat-simulations.

BTW, I just fired up the Eve-Online on my new computer, on the account I made early in the morning on the 28th of October last year. I played for about 5 hours, using and learning about the game through the tutorial. I was equallly impressed and bored by it at the same time.

I like some of the graphics, and effect of using jump-gate drives on your small ship and as you go past shimmery planets. I didn't really like how docking with the station where you start off is not a seemless transition or how the ship will fly at and bounce off of other large floating objects in space that I have have been directed to go to. I guess that really hard to explain without showing you in a video if I could make one while playing.

I don't think I will be playing for a while as I was told my account had been disabled and I would need to re-subscribe if I wanted to continue. I no longer play the MMO's that still require a monthly payment. However small it may be. I may dive back into it when I am more financial.

Here is a none-exhaustive list of problems with eve online; hopefully this will be of interest to someone.

-- SNIP --

As someone who has played EVE for some 10 years or more and flown everything from Frigs to Titans, I can honestly say; you don't know what you are talking about ... but ... I hear your frustrations young Jedi, I hear them. :p Anyway, as long as ED never turns into EVE 2.0 doesn't really matter does it? :D

Hmmm?

Maybe one day, we get you in a cheapo Rifter/Jaguar or Wolf and take you on a little PVP hunting session in lowsec or edges of nullsec. Plenty of cheapo meaningless fun still to be had there (yes, even with basics skills). :D

I finally joined Eve...and it's awesome! I have to admit Elite drove me to it. I really need some structure in my games and Eve has it in spades.

My tip as a long time ex player.
