The Exploration Discussion Thread!

Well done Cmdr! :D

I should be there later today if the map plotting gods are kind to me :D Are you going to head home or carry on exploring?

I'm going to head back I think, I've taken a bit of damage ( nodding off late at night while jumping :( lol ) and am missing civilization to be honest.
Thanks for the words of encouragement and help cmdr and good luck with the rest of your exploration mission :)

I've done the nodding off thing too :D

I'm sat at 95% hull at the moment so I'm not sure what I'll do after the core, might do the same as the way out and take a big banana shaped course and look for some more interesting stuff :)

Best of luck on your return journey, Cmdr.

May the scoopables be plentiful and often! :D

Made it back to Cleve Hub in open play A'OK. Docked with no problems after the 51KLY round trip, total time 8 days.

Did I mention - completely undamaged? :)

Figured I'd share a couple of the sights I've seen so far on my journey.

My first (and so far only) earth like

Huge O class. Was 65ls away

B class with some cool color

Only about 6000ly in, doing a lot of exploring. So long as my hull holds, this is going to be a long trip.

Hi just made it back from my first exploration trip. I didn't go to Sag A, I went out to Barnards loop. Nice vid of Sag A you got there BartV:cool:. I also got a vid of a BH from the Eskimo Neb

Any way I thought I'd share some of my high lights:

I have more pics but I have already posted a few, and can't remember what I have posted, and what I have not. I got 5,280,853cr for this trip which ain't bad. Now that I have gone out and gotten a good feel for exploration, I will make the trip out to Sag A as the rest of you have done. Just not straight away LOL.

So, I just got back from Sig A, took me 2 days to make the trip back to civilization.
Here is a neat video I recorded of Sig A in Action!: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Bartho1omeus/video/12418608
Also here is my GEM, 2 terrestial water worlds and 5 terraformable planets:

Nice pics Cmdr! That's a nice find too :D

And congrats on your safe return, hope you made a few credits too :D

Glad you enjoyed your trip Cmdr, exploring isn't for everyone :D What's the saying... 'one more of us, one less of them!' :D Some great pics there too :D

And good luck with your Sag A trip when you get around to it :D

Hi again Stitch, I'm heading back now so we'll probably pass at some point, might be a good photo opportunity! :D

Some great pics too :D keep them coming! :D

14.4k LY from Sol. I've found a huge cube of juicy blue stars, and I'm going to find a black hole in here if it kills me

Hi Bongo, I found a couple of Black Hole Nebula systems, both had the Hole scanned but one had three planets undiscovered. I scanned one of them but left the other two for other explorers to claim. I can dig out the system name if you like but it might be a fair old detour! :D

I found a Herbig AE/BE star last night, I've never even heard of one before. It's the fastest spinning star I've ever seen, and it's tiny! Here is it in tight orbit around an A class

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/BongoBaggins/video/12426905

And of course, I wouldn't be an explorer if I didn't try to fly between them

Cool I found one of those in the bubble quite early in the game, I think I was still flying the sidey. So it could not have been to far from Erevate. I think they are quite rare though 'cos I don't remember seeing another since.

Hehe! Nice bit of flying and a nice find! :D

That's why exploring is brilliant! I came across some C-N, S and MS class stars a few days ago, never even heard of them before. They only appear to pop up if you are around 1kly or more above or below the galactic plain. I don't know what they are worth scan wise but they are rare and apparently, are stars at various points in becoming a Carbon Star :D

Just dropped in to the Great Annihilator and what a place it is! :D

The drop point is really quite close to Annihilator A and it gets very disorientating very quickly! Definitely worth the visit! :D

Hey Toad. I'm currently about 7k ly out, in the Flyooe Hypue sector. If we cross paths we can meet up for sure.

Question for the more experienced. I hit my first neutron star yesterday and experienced (what I think is) gravitational lensing...a while later I experienced the same phenomenon for about a 100ly stretch, leading me to believe a black hole in the area. I searched but only came up with a neutron star 70ly off my path. Anyone else experience this? How do you track down a black hole?
