The Exploration Discussion Thread!

I swear ED has it out for me!!! I just popped into a system with 3 binary pair of stars. 2 are close together. When I came out of Hyperspace I was between 2 of the binary pairs. I maneuvered around to the far side of the closest pair to get a screenshot of the 4 stars.

Nice one, I hope you got out without too much damage.
Well done on your trip so far, hope you make it back to the bubble safely.

Luckily the primary star is further away from the second pair then its sister star. I didn't overheat by much. Still uncomfortable to go from 60% to just over 100% right after coming out of hyperspace. I also had zero the throttle because i was looking online. If I hadn't and turned the wrong way.... Well, I might of been posting a different kind of screenshot. One filled with tears and rage quitting, lol.

So I had an excellent weekend exploring. I was home sick and had lots of time to work my way towards Sag A*. I'm only about 3kly away now.
I had three amazing finds over the weekend.

1st - I came across a supernova remnant star as well. I took a screen shot, and I'll have to upload it later, but it was really cool! It showed up on the realistic map view as a neutron star with a blue shell around it. I wasn't first to discover it, sadly, but it was still amazing! Everything around it was green and hazy. I flew about 10k light seconds out to see if I could get a better view, but the haze didn't diminish so I'm not sure.

2nd - I've been trying to find an ELW with a ring, and finally found one (first discovered hopefully, too!). I've got what I think is a pretty good screen shot of this one too! I'll try to figure out how to share them from my xbox when I get back home.

3rd - the best one! I found a system with 4 (YES, FOUR) Earth likes. Two of them were in a binary system orbiting each other on the way around the local B star. The third was just a couple hundred light seconds away, and the fourth was 10 or 20 k ls away orbiting another star (an M or K, I think it was). I took a few screen shots of this, but I won't post them until I get back as they were all done in super cruise.

Anyway, it was an awesome weekend, and now I'm really close to the core. Looking forward to the halfway point in my journey. Going on 2 months out thus far!

Hello fellow explorers!

I have finally made it back from Sag-A. After 90+ hours of exploring the 50kly trail I am very glad to be back home.
Oh boy was I nervous making my first approach to a Coriolis station. For a few minutes I just sat there 8km out with thrusters off thinking “wow, look at all those people.
Don’t screw this up now.” Requested docking, turned on the head lights, lowered landing gear and respected the speed limit. Landed as smooth as always.
Guess this game has really burned into my muscle memory :)

I did not realize that selling the exploration data is such a fuss. One page after another selling page by page. Is there no way to sell it all in one press of a button?

This trip has thought me a LOT about exploration and our galaxy in general. Above all, it has thought me how SMALL the bubble is :)

A big thank you to all the Commanders that have helped me pick the right equipment,
to those that spoke words of encouragement and to those that had so many helpful tips.

And special thanks to PNK Ozymandius for his help, for the good conversation, for the knowledge passed on to me and for being the most helpful of explorers out there.

(this is turning into an Oscar now :D )
I would also like to thank the Academy - THE LIDPAR ORDER PILOT TRAINING FACILITY - for being a shining example of a helping community. You guys rock!

To the Fuel Rats: RATSIGNAL! :D Just kidding ;)
Although I didn’t get to save anyone while I was in deepspace, it was great joining up with you on #Ratchat and seeing you work on #Fuelrats. Oh the WORK those guys get done in a day! You guys have my utmost respect. If you need a fighter, if you get in a bad situation or someone is giving you trouble, let me know and I’ll be there before you can say PEW PEW!

Stay safe out there Commanders

Looking forward to your pics especially the ELW with a ring!

Sigh, decided to give exploration a shot, suited up a 5 mil diamondback, did Barnard's loop as a training run, got home, got shot down by Sirius security. Back to my cobra I guess. Last time I go exploring without guns.

Guns not necessary. If your "home" system is not at the edge of the bubble; Shields probably are necessary.

You have to plan your landing. Find a system on the edge of occupied space with a station (I prefer outposts) as close to the star as you can find. Sell your data as soon as you can, then make your way home

'Gratz!! How much did you make?

Im 6kLY away from the great annihilator, and then I'll be pressing on to Sag A, before heading back to civilization myself. Maybe I'll see you around in a few weeks time. Hopefully I'll have a spangly new FDL :D

Thanks! Made 50mil. Was hoping for a 100, but that's ok. See ya around ;)

I've been messing around with the shipbuilder and I think I've found a bridge between the Type 6 and the DBX

Viper Mk IV explorer

The Viper Mk IV is pretty much a cobra mk III. You do get more shields from the class 3 slot than the cobra gets from a class 4. Having a class 1 slot instead of a class 2 not a big deal as there is plenty of gear for the class 1. It is more maneuverable with only slightly less speed.

For Pirating I recommend the Viper Mk IV over the Cobra. Cobra probably still wins out for smuggling though. The difference in there jump range is less than 1/4 of a lightyear.

I was going to delete that from earlier but didn't get round to it. It's not as good an explorer as the T6 but twice the price. What the hell was I thinking
