Greetings Commander, and welcome to the Commonwealth!
The Federated Commonwealth of Systems is a brand new group that has several goals in mind:
- To create and facilitate a safe space for players familiar with solo play to make friends and familiarise themselves with the open play experience.
- To build a narrative surrounding an independent faction that seeks to influence galactic politics to some degree.
- To construct in-universe lore that guides the storyline of the group, with contributions from all members, fuelled by commander's own personal stories.
- To ultimately have fun in a casual, friendly, and helpful setting. With no presumption of ability or commitment.
At the minute, it's just me and my ideas. But if these sound like things you're interested in, please read on!
Who we are and what we want:
I created the group because I think it could be useful to help players familiar with solo but perhaps hesitant to go into open to do so with friends and the right mindset. Chances are some better equipped player will interdict and kill you, and that sucks. But it's a lot less annoying with friends. Independent pilots in the galaxy are a community in their own right, and having that support and camaraderie makes the experience of open enjoyable, even at its most chaotic. I'm a player who has several hours in solo, reaching elite and having done a bit of everything by now, who is still hesitant to get into open because there are players who are simply better than me. Instead of avoiding an entire aspect of the game that could be immensely fun, I've avoided it. The point of the group is first and foremost to create a friendly and helpful space for players to join together and explore parts of the game they haven't done before.
I'm also a massive fan of the narrative and lore that Frontier have created in the Elite universe. The group will focus itself around the narrative of a fledgling young alliance of systems created by independent pilots in response to the state of galactic politics and the Thargoid threat. These narratives and decisions will be guided by player stories and desires, and just be a bit of fun for fellow players who want to geek out over the universe we love so much. You don't have to even take part in it, just enjoy the stories and setting that players in the community create. Perhaps we'll get a mention or two in GalNet, or perhaps we'll be another backwater alliance of independent systems causing a minor ruckus. Either way, we'll have fun doing it.
Most importantly, we are looking for people to join regardless of rank, ability, availability, timezone, affiliation, or playstyle. If you're a seasoned commander looking to try something different, perhaps you can help establish a solid groundwork for an exciting new group! If you're a newbie still dreaming of getting that engineered Python, perhaps you can find someone to wing up with and help you out! Hopefully we'll get a home system and establish ourselves as a new minor faction, but the core focus will be making sure that everyone has the chance to enjoy open play with friends. The online aspect of Elite is what makes it unique and we want to facilitate that type of gameplay, with no expectations of availability or commitment from players or admins alike. We want you to focus on your own life first, and focus on us way down the order or priority.
What can you do right now?
So far I have set up an Inara for people who are interested to get a better idea of what kind of idea I have initially. I don't want to establish a 'leadership' or dominate what people can and cannot do. Admins are only intended to be there to safeguard everyone's interests and make sure everyone has fun. And eventually everyone can contribute to the narrative goal of the group!
I'm also looking for people who can help set up a Discord and manage other things as the group grows, because I have no experience with the technical side of things. If you think you wanna help out in a new group, please hit me up!
