THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Never! But yes, mysteries like this was what kept me going, every time I needed a break from the puzzles I got bored real quickly with everything else whats currently in the game. I hope they will add some more mysteries in the future or I might have a look at the guardians... :S

It is funny that now that we have bases here, i already planned routes for the time after the 29th. Are there even other such vage mysteries in the game?

Anyway, i'll head out this evening in a Conda from Farsight. I'll post again when i start if someone wants to ride along in MC. Hopefully it is stable today.

Hate to say it, Drew, but whether an Anaconda, or a Megaship - it's a Point of Interest, something you did say specifically that this was not...

Just sayin'...

Z...

I've followed the rift threads on and off for some time.
Drew had clearly stated that there was something to find since E : D originally released.

On this: One of the original theorems put forward in the original rift threads as to what to look for was abnormal amounts of ELWs and/or terraformed/terraformable worlds; ELWs near suns unlikely to support them and ELWs near stellar remnants.
- Hard to find 'out there' - by the looks of things, a couple of the rifters passed through the system of interest, but the 'answer' didn't jump out then. I do remember some talk about a large water world and there was some discussion about this being 'it' - in hindsight, not far off the mark -if I ever found the post again, I'd laugh if the system in question then was where the megaship was plonked in 2.3

If the Mega ship is a unique one, it would have been cool if it was dead. No lights. No rotating ring, no engine glow. Just turning end over end like the Discovery in 2010.

Still great stuff tho.

Nah. I suggest we now concentrate on finding who is responsible for this, and make them pay. I suspect the 29th might reveal the guilty party(ies). Beyond that, we might really need to prepare for an Exodus.

Yes, definitely not the end!

Dare I say it's only the beginning? Some things remain unsolved. Let's see what the 29th will bring... Perhaps Drew and FDEV have more for us :)

So ... ? Game Over ?

Nope. This is where it starts.

It's where we find out that the powers have duped us, either into making sure we never leave the bubble and continue serving them, or we find out that they have been planning to throw us to the wolves when it hits the fan.
Somebody made damn sure the first outreach to colonise failed, and it's safe to assume that their followers are still around and will sacrifice you/me/everyone to satisfy their goals.

I called Salome' a Lara Croft wannabe, she may be, she may be doing all this out of pique or some noble reason, but it has changed the game for me, I don't think I can deliver another unit of bio-waste for any of the powers until I know what the hell is going on. I'm going to continue mooching about in deep space just looking around, when I feel like repairs or handing in data, it will be out at Colonia and the player bases. The bubble can rot.

If the next message is "Something wonderful is going to happen Dave" I throw my pc out the window.:D

What if they set up Colonia to be their panic room? What if you end up just serving the same masters under different names, while they let the Bubble be devoured by whatever is coming?

This implies (at least, if it doesn't proove that) that what Rebecca found is worse than the Thargoids :) .

So, what to do next ? It was said by Drew that a significant part of the event of April 29th would also take place in Sol (or he implied this as he said a Sol permit would be useful) - placing a some brigade groups there ? Maybe Salomé also will have to "follow the path of souls" (as we have to) to reveal the whole truth ? I will do anything what is necessary to protect/help Salomé, but I'm still not sure how/where/when . Currently, on 29th I would position in Sol and wait for the things to come - but will that be most useful ? Ideas ?

I wonder if she'll be naming Feddy names and needs people in Sol to arrest them or prevent them from escaping.

Whilst all true, this is still very much a POI.

Golly.

1. Thank you Drew for setting all this up in the first place. Great work as ever. This story has been and continues to be, very rewarding.

2. Thank you FDEV for supporting Drew.

3. Well done everyone here and elsewhere for decoding the messages. Sterling work.

4. Well done everyone who helped out in the CoR CG. I now feel like my efforts there had real meaning.

5. Well done to my friends in CoR for solving the last part, getting out there to investigate, and sharing your findings.

I too am very curious to know what was there to find from day one. And if there is still things to find. I was going to take another trip out there after the 29th, but it seems it would now be a sightseeing trip as opposed to one of hopeful discovery. I will certainly still go but it would be nice to know there are still things to find, probes, unique planet descriptions. You did say it was not a POI. Would an Anaconda not be a POI? So was the Anaconda in from the start or was that added in later to flesh out something else, and FDEV have just improved things as they went along?

Thank you Jorki. Correcting that continued mis-quote is one of my big (but silly) axe grinding pastimes :D

Edit

Of course what would that trouble be? The revealing of something that the powers that be, were so worried about that they would hatch this whole black ops programme and happy kill to hide. That knowledge would probably cause mass hysteria and panic. You can almost see why they would do things this way. They are looking at the big picture. And the big picture is a few dozen deaths vs millions of deaths. And some of humanity surviving vs possible extinction (depending on what is going on)... Almost.

But Rebecca said this went above the Feds, Imps and Alliance. Who is that? Galcop? INRA? Sirius?

/Edit

As for me, I was way off. I was too far trailward and went too far.

But I must say I take a little satisfaction that it was on the far side, after the various friendly arguments as far back as thread 1 over if it was on the near side, in the rift or on the far side.

Yes, think Drew & FD did a stirling job here! Congratulations to all involved.

Yes, correcting that little urban myth is one of my pet bugbears too! ;)

Your last point is moot I think..she did say ALL who had gone beyond the Rift didn't live to tell the tale, which was true for the Dynasty expedition but does not include herself since she found it and lived to tell the tale, albeit hex edited and providing only a few clues. A logical inconsistency!

I do hope Drew gives us the full story at some stage because I still don't see the logic behind some of the clues over the past two years.

I think the "and they thought the Thargoids were trouble" implies two things
1) the people behind the Dynasty expedition and murders are going to be in deep doodoo with the general population that they planned to leave behind as canon fodder (hence the 29th event for Salome to reveal their names & involvement)
2) the threat that is going to come (still say it's in 2.4, & I don't think it's very far away now) is going to be worse than the (last load of {just hedging my bets here!}) Thargoids.
