THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Don't think so - my understanding is it is going to be a running fight through multiple systems, and the only coordination is on the various player group Discord channels and the like. If you aren't part of one of those organization's plans and winged up with them, you are pretty much SOL.

Ha ha. The Groups will have their work cut out, with false flaggers and Discord eavesdroppers.

Add a few hundred indy pilots to the mess and the chaos is complete. :D

I will most likely be a few hours late for the event, so I hope I can catch up at some point. I might wait in Witch Head. If their not heading in that direction, it's not much point in following anyway.

I wouldn't waste time looking for signal sources, as the Dynasty expedition beacons in all three zones were POIs that showed up within 1,000 ls distance.
The thing is, earlier logs only mention seeding Earth-like worlds with them, and only the Zurara's notes terraforming candidates too. However, those can be fairly common, so if there were any beacons around them, they would have already been found. Probably with ELWs too, but they are much more rare.

As for the other two megaships: given the distance between the Zurara and the Formidine Rift settlements, if it's a similar distance for the other two, then that would mean a huge amount of systems to cover. After all, those regions have a much higher star density.

Also, could anyone around the Zurara check the distance to the closest system? I wonder if it really was reachable with a stock Cobra or Clipper.

One is Xbox exclusively so won't be on PC?
CMDR Nakamura Yuri D is the Xbox-exclusive ally of Salomé. CMDR Tsu Singh is her Alliance-related ally. I wonder if I should put in her middle name (Annabel Sp?) but I don't like trying random combinations of spellings in case I add the wrong person to my friends list by mistake.

Well, looking at my map and at EDSM, it appears that there is a Syreadiae CC-I b2-0 that is only 23ly from the Zarura. What's worse is, someone was there on the 10th May last year! According the EDSM:

https://www.edsm.net/en/system/id/2699443/name/Syreadiae+CC-I+b2-0

I won't say who it was, but the link will tell you. I'm sure I've seen the name before, but I don't remember it from this thread... at least not recently.

This is why a 200-300CMDR instance
would be awesome. The confusion and chaos would be what makes it so awesome.

What about Hawkins gap, conflux amd col70 systems
No ships found there yet

I've been thinking the same thing, in particular with regards to COL70. What about the signals apparently received from there?

On another note: Am I the only one wondering what Hassan has been doing since the end of Reclamation? Has he been quietly sitting next to Salome all the time? All the way out to BP and back? Where was he when she was captured and en route to the trial? And now?

Maybe Hassan is Drews backup in case everyone dies...

Well, at least one ship from conflux met it's end at a neutron star...

How can it be certain that they were 2 more Megaships for the other expeditions? The Zurara could have been the sole ship supporting all 3 missions!!!

Presumably one of the megaships was destroyed by a neutron star, the other was headed back (check the Conflux and Hawkins logs to clarify). The one that headed back should have been cripppled like the Zurara, but it is possible the invaders were overpowered and maybe the ship was only crippled. Could be there were survivors. Thats a Zurara-in-a-Rift sized "could be", though.

After surveying a lot of system around the mega ship Zurara up to 100 ly radius. there is huge number of terraformable worlds around. higher then I see normally.

Three different zones. There might have been only one megaship, but why would the other two directions not have any, just the Riftward one? Also, the three expeditions all happened at the same time (based on the abandoned settlement logs), so the Zurara couldn't have supported all three. Not to mention that they were never meant to return.

I was looking over the log from EAFOTS. it looks like they got Zurara single. So I wonder if the lights in the witch space that they were seeing. was dew to the hexedit drug they took.

A few observations ... I'm not sure if they have been raised yet. This thread has been moving way too fast since the Zurara was found.

1. The original logs from the Zurara are from 3270 and around the same time frame as the logs from the abandoned settlements that we found in the Rift, Conflux and Hawking's Gap.

2. In Altera Rebecca has just returned from what appears to have been a trip "to the edge of the galactic arm" in the year 3270. This was likely the Formidine Rift but the story seems to hint that she didn't find anything ... though Rebecca also mentions that she's already taken steps to safeguard some vital information by editing her own memory. Perhaps she did find something but simply doesn't remember it?

3. The Zurara's additional logs, apparently left by Rebecca, were recorded in 3273. This means that she undertook a second journey to the Rift just a few years after the first one. I've long considered a second journey to have been unlikely but the logs prove me wrong. I had assumed that Rebecca's 2nd life in Altera as a librarian had lasted a decade or more but that assumption, like my assumption about the likelihood of her 2nd journey to the has been disproved.

A possibility: Whatever intelligence Rebecca has regarding the Dynasty Expedition in 3270 led her to the Rift before the Dynasty Expedition actually arrived on-site. She found nothing and returned empty-handed. Three years later her memory edited self receives a communique from her younger self that sets her back off on the chase ... this time she finds what she was looking for and leaves the additional logs on the Zurara as insurance against further mindwipes.

A second possibility: Rebecca found the Dynasty Expedition in-progress during the first trip, wiped her own memories but not before leaving a trail that she could follow later. This makes some sense ... she knew that her memories would be used against her and that, if she didn't wipe them herself then "THEY" would have been able to delete her trail of breadcrumbs along with her memories. With both the trail AND the memories deleted there would have been no way to recover the investigation. She returned to Tionisla in 3270 so she would have had to have discovered the Dynasty Expedition while it was in progress. She therefore didn't discover the fate of Dynasty until after he second trip to the Rift.

A third possibility: She actually participated as one of the Invaders who helped strand the crew of the Zurara and the other elements of the Expedition. The problem here is that the Invaders appear to have all taken their own lives via the Hexedit drug. If Rebecca survived then she left a trail for her future self that omitted her own involvement in the conspiracy. She then wiped her memory and picked up the trail again in 3273.

The second possibility is, in my mind, the most likely. Two trips. One where she discovers the Expedition in-progress and then a second where she discovers the sad fate of those who participated in the expedition.

Who is she and what does she want?

I haven't read the Oolite sagas, so what's her motivation in all this in the first place. In Altera when she talks to the guy in the shadowy cowl [I'd really like to try an inconspicuous shadowy cowl meet in the food court of a mega mall or shadowy cowl flash mob, probably a good way to stage a suicide by mall cop] is he dark wheel, inra someone else? I like INRA the most for things as they are conspicuous by absence of ever being mentioned.

"Dynasty" expeditions. The name might imply the Empire?

Why is Rebecca chasing this stuff in the first place?

I'm going to try to make it but will be one of the confused independent pilots who likely won't even get in an instance. It will depend on how things go this week at work as I have a deadline on the Friday, so might end up having to work on the Saturday in any case. Supposedly they will be heading coreward, but other than that have no idea as to the route(s) (which will likely change on the day in any case for all the reasons you mention). If I had more time and knew I would be there, I would think about signing up with COR to be one of their scouts, but even that they are doing in wings of two with required training meet ups ahead of time (cos we all have lots of time, right?) so there is no role for a truly independent pilot that I can see.

Nope ... I think that, once Premonition is released and we've had a chance to digest it, a brand new "Formidine Conspiracy" thread needs to be started to sum everything up in the OP and present the mystery from the fresh perspective that I'm sure we'll have after the conclusion of this chapter in Kahina's story.

It's not too early to start a Premonition Thread and begin speculation?

As I will be somewhat unreliable on a Saturday evening, I will not sign up with anyone. The Canonn has a discord lobby, so I will check status there.

At least I have Salome in the friends list. Should be easy to spot the system.
