THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

New to the Puzzle

I'm new here, so apologies if this has been studied already. I feel like it's kindergarten stuff compared to all the sleuthing that's been done so far, but...

Reading through some ship logs, the phrase "Randomius Factoria - save me!" is used to describe the tedious journey. Not having read the books, this phrase seemed out of place, and of course it turns out that "Randomius Factoria" is a deity figure in Elite lore.

Even so, what a strange name (though I get it, Random Factor), so I wondered if there was anything hidden there, as it's the only time I've seen it used in game. Looking at it, I realized that it actually contains the word "Formidine"

I thought that was pretty interesting, so I removed that word from the letters in the phrase and put the remainders into an anagram solver. Too many words to make sense of, few of them potentially contextual. I'm not saying this is for sure something, but it's a fairly decent coincidence. It'll need more human eyes on it to prove or disprove, so feel free to take a look if you'd enjoy the challenge. The remaining letters after removing Formidine are:

AUSACTORASAVEM

To add some very slight credibility to this, I saw a post where someone mentioned it and got a comment from Drew.

Again, my bad if this has been posted. I didn't see it when reading through, and I know how they love word games.

@Zach, I offered to take down the poll, you said it was my call, I mulled it over, and I decided to leave the poll up for curiosities sake, as it was swinging round towards a vote for no need for any rift megaship, so I didnt see any harm in letting it run, its not like this informal little vote would become the manifesto for a baying mob with pitchforks.

Can you re-post the link and updated results periodically? That poll isn't a bad idea to at least keep everyone's sentiments organized.

My personal opinion was to leave it as is as a memorial, to remember what happened, keep the audio logs intact, for all to see and enjoy. Being a derelict its has an appropriate somber feeling to it that i think should be preserved. Seeing as we already have available bases in the rift, I didn't see the use for another one. Maybe a CG would be better put to use to flesh out the existing infrastructure at the HEART Nebula base, add outfitting, shipyard, etc.

Just my 2 cents, but at the end of the day, with that poll, I suppose democracy will win. Majority rules and all that :)

I say we scrape those dried out corpses off the floor, shove them out the airlock and take the ship. No point getting all misty eyed about it. Then we can rename it to something catchy like "Listening Post That Isn't Just a Crater and Has An Actual Bar".

Then sell tickets to the CoR. The bar can be called Wagar's Watering Hole and you can stick a few Salome posters on the wall, everyone will be happy. Especially if it has repairs and outfitting.

At our next meeting we need to table an agenda item on how much time we are wasting in debate. I plan to put forward a motion that we should not waste our time debating so much, and open the floor to discussion. Right after the motion and debate on "What has Drew Wagar/FD ever done for us?"

Greek mythology references.
Oh, and public baths.

And while we're debating: ceterum censeo Zuraranem esse left alone.

I've possibly jumped the gun a bit here and made such a form for us to vote on our chosen direction:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1...edeFtiHj3NwHGOqq4ptEwBRw/viewform?usp=sf_link
Seems a vote via a poll is a good way to get everyone's opinion, and a majority decision feels like the only fair way to do things. According to the poll most of us are of a mind that a megaship isn't necessary, so I reckon we move past that discussion for now.

I'm not sure how much work it is, but would you mind creating another poll with the below options, so we can finally decide on a course of action with what to do with the Zurara? I would like to request adding one extra option -

Bring back the dead
Bring the ship to the Tionisla orbital graveyard

Ok, how about

Leave it alone

Or

Bring back the dead

Or

Bring the ship to the ships graveyard

Or

Bring back the dead
Bring it to life as a deep space outpost/station

Or

Bring back the dead
Bring it to life as a deep space outpost/station
Make her fly again

Or

Bring back the dead
Make her fly again

IF it was worth a vote, if we had a chance to make multiple community goals and get Frontier to update the Zurara appropiately. This is the first stage - petition frontier to allow us to do SOMETHING with the Zurara.

I disagree with your last point Zach. I would suggest stages as follows;

1. Get a definitive decision on what we are want to do in regards to the Zurara.

2. Write up a proposal for the CG or CG's decided upon.

3. Submit the proposal or proposals to FDev.

Worst case scenario they say no and we wasted a bit of time writing stuff up, but we are already wasting plenty of time in this debate on what to do with the Zurara anyway. I just want for us to reach a decision and get on with the job already :)

I've voted twice using your form to state my first and second preferences. However you are unconciously slanting any results because you haven't included all the possible decisions, and you have allowed multiple entries without an order of preference indicator. Since the Cmdr name is typed in manually it is also open to poll fraud.

I still recommend revive Zurara (seeing what the engineers can do to our fsd I'm sure one of them is into antiques and could patch her old 2b for one last journey) and move her to Tionisla graveyard (an option that is not on your poll form); that would be a good conclusion to the Reclamation storyline and might provoke a further clue to help track down the conspirators.

Repped. Well spotted & I don't remember this in either this thread or Canonn's. We have been told that we've missed clues, so this might be one of them. Will have a look later-granddaughter sitting this morning...

Edit: and snoozing, dog woke me at 03:00 retching up bits of bone-bad dog!

Other than the fact of offering proper burial to those poor souls, bringing back the corpses could also help us discover a new lead to find out who is behind this scheme, by running autopsy on those affected by the hexedit drug . Just a thought ..

Could be a good point to push the space leg idea back on scene : imagine boarding the ghostly Zurara to find clues and prooves in a "dead space" ambiance (minor the necrostuff) ... ahhh dreams.....

Those responsible are in the bubble. You don't need a megaship to find them, you need some proof of who they are.

We don't know that those responsible are in the bubble. (Or do we? Maybe I've missed that being confirmed.)

We also don't know whether it's actually real or whether the conspiracy is itself a fabrication, in which case it's more than likely to be a different set of perpetrators to those that the fabrication seeks to implicate.

Various non-bubble candidates:
- those folks on Raxxla, whatever we're calling them
- one of the other undiscovered outposts of humanity
- Jacques
- AI (ours)

Following on from this, remove the word "sector" and we have AAAAMSUV. Maybe a star reference?

A new clue. Good spot! Now, if only I wasn't in the office all day, I could throw my efforts into helping :(

Who was the lady of fate in mythology?

Moirai / moerae in Greek. Clotho , lachesis and atropos

Picking up on the riddle / letters...

After Scorpio Blue's removing of the word / letters FORMIDINE from the message ""Randomius Factoria - save me!"" you are left with the letters ""AUSACTORASAVEM"".

Branching off in a different direction to Siobhan, I noticed that if you leave the word sector in there you have sufficient letters to make the words "A MASS EVACUATOR" - which ties in with the EXODUS theme nicely don't you think? Especially if you tie both of those together you end up with...

"FORMIDINE - A MASS EVACUATOR!"

But as Siobhan said you can go down a different path and take out the word formadine then take the word sector out of what is left, then you are left with ""AAAAMSUV"" - which I cannot come up with anything for.

Same, a lot of systems have A-AA in the name, Leaves us with AMSUV. I'm coming up with nothing though.

Is this a good time to point out it is spelled "Formidine"? Sorry.

I was just about to point out that the above seemed to have an extra I that wasn't being used...

In that case, there is an extra A left over instead.
