THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

But isn't 9823ly from Zurara outside the bubble?
Yes, but unless I'm remembering it wrong that would only represent the distance back to the start point of the journey.

Personally for what was being done and the secrecy being sought I would say the best approach would be to build the ship under false pretences at existing facilities within the bubble and then effect the transition to true purpose at a staging point (or points) somewhere well outside the bubble. Transport the equipment and passengers to the staging point separately via various innocuous appearing activities. The same with the crew, or even better just recruit them locally from near the staging point. To eyes within the bubble, nothing seems out of the ordinary.

We also need to consider that the Zurara isn't where it's supposed to be, so there's no telling how far off from the 9,823ly it actually is.

Edit - ninja'd on the first point by eadghe :)

We have to keep in mind that 9823ly was the distance to the destination of the Zurara, not necessarily the place where the ship was build...

No the destination was the FRift. 9823ly is to get back "home". Since home clearly isn't Reorte then it stands to reason (I think) it's where she was built, though it's possible after construction she was moved to a Club base for expedition preparations. So maybe a base &/or a construction yard...

Right, so I calculated a point in space, interpolating between Riedquat and the Zurara, 9823 ly back from its current resting place and used that to centre and narrow the search:-

Outorst CQ-G d10-8
9832.896984 from Zurara
18.1880599 from R-R

Outorst GR-L c21-0
9820.332971 from Zurara
7.629571175 from R-R

Outorst GW-E d11-6
9855.0705 from Zurara
32.18972183 from R-R

Column 2 is distance from the Zurara, column 3 is the distance from the R-R line, or at least my imaginary point on it.

Good way to become a true Rifter, start a search for something that may not exist! ;)

How do we know she's not where she's supposed to be? She came out of hyperspace, came to a relative halt (I presume that means wrt the local system frame, scanned a planet, dropped the secret cargo and then was sabotaged with no fuel or reactor. The book description may not tie in with the game system details but I think she is now 9823ly from "home"

I'll rephrase. We have two things stated in the book; A. the system description, and B. the distance from 'home'.

Logically if A is effectively wrong then we cannot assume that B is correct.

We can't assume B is definitely wrong either.

It's correctness is in a state of undeterminedness.

It is Schroedinger's fact.

I always wondered why Schroedinger wasn't prosecuted for putting a live cat in an airtight box with no food or water or litter tray!

I think the mismatch between the book and in-game descriptions of Zurara location is either a huge continuity error, or significant, but I can't for the life of me come up with a hypothesis for how or why a dead megaship would or could have been moved; so I lean towards the error hypothesis. It does raise some uncertainty over the "9823ly to home base" hypothesis, but if it is a loose end in the FRift saga then it is a potential thing for Rifters to investigate, or not...

Orrrrr the megaship died next to an Elw 9823ly out and in the thirty years, someone started it up (thats why the lights are on) and parked it further out where it is today.
Therefore the search should be 12083 minus 9823 at its original resting place on the Rr line, in the rift. Thats um 2260 ly further back
Get looking. . .

Ha ha ha! True! Though in his defence, it's a box; the cat probably got in of it's own accord!

Well I did have a look and see what was 9823ly from the bubble in the direction of the Zurara and it looked to be firmly in the middle of the rift. Strange things happen in that region of space...

If you apes could just Ally yourself with Us Oresrians we could fight those Klaxos together and push them back! But you are too busy being manipulated by The Club. It's ok, we can wait and use you as a meat shield.

Ally ourselves with a losing side which intends to use us as human shields? An excellent suggestion which is clearly in humanity's best interests. Please, do go on...

sry, if this is known, but i went to thr beacon in eafots gl-y e2 (delta site), and it did not broadcast (anymore?) at :45 (14:45 servertime). instead in broadcasted at 15:00.

"Beacons that link to Alpha sites broadcast on the hour. Beta sites at 15 past, Gamma sites half past, and Delta sites 45 past the hour."

12083 is the distance from Sol, so 2260 back from that would be 9823 out from Sol. You think Sol is the originating system?
