The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Can someone check Lave Revolution for that name? I'm at work at the moment so can't. It may also be an Oolite reference perhaps to one of Drew's (non-canon) novellas.

Good idea. I just checked Drew's Reclamation FAQ and apparently John Graham does appear in some of the other Elite novels and Drew says that it should be pretty easy to figure out who he is.

Oh good Lord, he's "Ambassador John Graham" from Lave Revolution. The Federation ambassador. Not sure how I missed that.

I was planning to post this morning that folks should be a bit careful about 'Drew Rep', he might just like your post or it may just tickle his fancy that you've spotted some interesting tidbit from his book and not have anything to do with *IT*.

Now that I've seen this and another line from his FAQ I'd missed it's like somebody just jammed a huge spanner in my theories about what *IT* is. I now have to erase my mental white board and start over.

And since I've now been drawn back into the tin foil hattery ... I remember thinking when I first read ED and Kahina was introduced that later in the book we'd discover she wasn't really a true daughter of the Senator. Her hair was wrong, she was genetically different. I ditched that theory midway through the book and kind of forgot about it.

Now I'm less sure she's not a plant. Particularly when you think about the Galnet article that bothered to proclaim her a "True Daughter" of the Empire. So if that's all true the question is "Who is she and who are her real parents" and of course "Does it matter with respect to what *IT* is".

Just for fun, is her last name really Ryder ?

Edit: Wait a second ambassador Graham died so ??? I'm too old for this

Wow, nice! I never read Lave Revolution. Is it any good? For that matter, how are the other ED novels?

I have had a rep from Drew before now, and I am pretty sure it was because he liked what I posted, not because of "IT" as it were...

Ambassadors Delany, Graham and Wait.
They are popping up everywere in this story. :)

".

Ok, so also:

He runs the map exchange on level four in Mostly Harmless. From that book he says "I get this a lot to be honest, People thinking they know me ? I guess I just have one of those faces".

And from "Here the Wheel" he's Lieutenant John Graham, the Architect's batman so to speak.
I think he's an inside joke among the authors. That or he's really amazingly bloody important, and like a Level 1000 Ninja Spy dude.

And why does it matter ?

(as in : I don't see it helping us to solve the mystery at hand, but I understand the allure of solving that small mystery)

It doesn't. Sometimes I think we need three threads for the Formidine mystery: One to discuss lore, one to discuss Galnet and one to discuss the actual exploration of the region. :)

I don't think it's relevant (and hopefully I showed that). I think, if anything, it's further proof that not all Drew Rep is related to 'being on the right track'. Sometimes it just means he likes a post, or you found some unrelated Easter Egg.

Now that my universe is restored (I was really worried at first he did have a relevance) I will return to my original rabbit hole.

Ah young padawans, its called "surfing the tin foil"
There are times when real action is discussed, times when real science is discussed, and in between is the time of the tin foil. Just skim through the times that dont interest you, all these things come around eventually.

The trouble with that is: the tinfoil can smother the science - or can quickly fill the thread up and hello thread number N, where N is calculated by how much noise (tinfoil) has been generated against signal.

The tinfoil is what put me off the UA threads.

Just sayin'

Tinfoil will also serve as inspiration for 'real' science an exploration.

Without tinfoil, Rho Cas would probably still be unvisited.

Heh, in terms of Mad tin foil Hattery I could make a Snarky post that it's much Too Late and we've all gone down the Rabbit Hole and what we're going to find is a Boojum.

Personally I'm off to find the White Queen.

Edit: Doesn't warrant a bump so editing this thread, just posted this in the Astronomy subforum https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=244000&p=3790905#post3790905 really cool looking.

Just had to put in a call to the galaxies greatest heroes: The Fuel Rats. I can't believe I jumped without having enough fuel. Damn.

Those guys really do come through though! My rescuer is on his way out now.
