The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I'm curious (but not curious enough to search this entire threadnaught ;) ), what was the theory behind Reorte-Diso?

The exact text in the book when they searched the archive was "Reorte to ..." it didn't technically say Riedquat. Hassan then comments on somebody having a sense of humor about the 'Friendliest place this side of Riedquat" implying "..." was this side of riedquat. Which is Diso.

Drew recently made it clear that's a bunch of horse hooey and the proper line is the RR Line. Full disclosure, I was a big RD line proponent .. so yeah.

LuckyLuke - that wolf asterism you posted a while ago, is that out in the rift? If so, I'm wondering if Drew has been feeding us "landmarks" on the route to *IT*. The full stops and commas looky-likey, then the wolf...

If not, or if this has been explored and debunked then never mind...

Greetings CMDRs!

After weeks and weeks of scaning an jumping I finally arrived at the Formidine Bridge (near end)!
It was a calm trip and there were no unusual events or encounters while travelling here.
Time to think about what to do next - besides from crossing the bridge obviously...

CU out there...

Well, in fact I don't have to report that much - I just wanted to speak up to convince myself I am still on the right track ;)

Somebody pointed out earlier in the thread that during Kahina/Salomes visit to earth on the 27/03/3301 that a certain astronomical event occurred?

Earth was at ...?

Darned if I can remember the name of it... Anyhow...

I need to find the exact time of this event.

Can someone please help?

Cheers,

Gypsy.

On 20th March 2015 (20th March 3301 in game - Kahina landed on Earth) - there was a total eclipse of Sun and supermoon. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...n-kick-off-spring-in-the-northern-hemisphere/

I think this is definitive proof that a bowl of petunias will be found floating in the rift ... :)

I admire your optimism,,,what's that line,,,"pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist."

I expect nothing to happen until the 4th quarter,,er I mean final season 2 amazing update which will be enticing enough to get us to shell out for season 3. It'll be like the UA's even if found it'll just sit there for a quarter or a half until FD is damn good and ready to allow plots to move forward. It may look like some Mega-Myst puzzle waiting to be solved,,,that's why rifting is good for summer,,,detailed scanning or build a barn, the barn sounds fun.

After 6 plus weeks on the Rift had to go back for repairs,,

Jaques Station

What a sh**hole. I've seen classier truck-stop stripper bars, Jaques can only dream of becoming as nice as that.
I don't know if I'll ever the get the stench of Biowaste and fetid oil steam-cleaned out of my soul. Outfitting there is joke you'll have better luck and more fun dumpster diving behind a mortuary. Jaques signature rare hootch, brain cancer is rare too. While he's very affable it's too bad taste buds weren't something he kept. The locals are "unique" and it's fun trying to guess how they got that way while swilling back his latest biowaste distillate.

I only give it two stars.

Guys.

Something to make our lives easier.

Download Stellarium.

Download all the extra catalogues from inside the program. (All 9 of them) Restart.
Switch constellations and everything else on. Hit the pause button. (Distracting)

Switch location to Cambridge and time to 27.03.3301.
Not only can we now see all constellations, a massive amount of stars too, but we can switch to Azimuthal grid. And guess what? There is a in game star dead centre above Cambridge that night. Headed there now. 730 LY trip. Back in a jiffy.

Gypsy.

Ps -its got Tychos star and Cas A too. Might help with finding them if we can identify a nearby star at a similar distance.

Very cool app, thanks for posting this.

So I set it up for the vernal equinox on March 20th at Cambridge (for some reason it keeps picking up my system's time zone though, UTC-3, hence I have it set time to 19:45 instead of 22:45 for the equinox). What I noticed immediately is that the constellation Ursa Major is dead over head Cambridge. A few interesting things about this:

- it includes Alioth
- The "big dipper" portion of the constellation is used as a navigational aid to find Polaris, and we all know what is at Polaris, right?
- the big dipper is an asterism made up of seven bright stars (seven veils?)
- while classically it has been depicted as the Great Bear, from its shape it could easily be depicted as a big bad wolf as well... particularly in this view in Stellarium.

Tried to upload a screenshot, but unfortunately keep getting "invalid file" no matter what format I use. Here is the basic info on the constellation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursa_Major

Something to note here is that WE NEED A TIME. Somehow somewhere there must be a reference to what time Kahina arrived at Cambridge. (Not just time of year) Currently trawling the old news feeds in Sol, but can find a thing (Only goes back to Oct 3301)

Otherwise there is a thousand stars to choose from.

Anyone have more precise data on Kahinas visit to Earth?

Forum image uploads suspended because of them bloating the database.
You need to use some image upload site & link your pics from there, such as imgur.com or postimage.org

Thanks, here is a link to the screenshot of what I describe above on imgur: http://imgur.com/iR2ZkYW

22:45 UTC is the precise time of the vernal equinox

Have you checked out HIP 51910 yet?

Very interesting. There is something in the wikipedia link that caught my eye:

"Another asterism known as the "Three Leaps of the Gazelle" is recognized in Arab culture ... etc..."

According to the etymology of the name Kahina (on French wikipedia) , whose real name is Dihya Tadmut (which means "beautiful gazelle" in tacawit) or Damya, which could mean (tall gazelle). There may be a a connection between the Three Leaps of the Gazelle asterism and the meaning of Kahina.

There is a huge connection here with seven gates, underworld, goddess/queen of underworld, entering the underworld through said gates and so on... but I haven't been able to work a solid lead from it all, besides being a literary device at present.

Just for reference ... With the founding of Carthage.... the Phoenician and local Berber religion merged and formed a syncretic tradition which continued for quite a while... Namely the Phoenician Queen Goddess Astarte merged with the Berber Tanit ... and Carthiginian Queens were considered Chief Priestess of Tanit. While we are talking much further down the road (after all the Roman influence) I still imagine the historic "Kahina's" role as high priestess was for Tanit...
