The Formidine Rift - Part 2

after putting this in the wrong thread...

Most of the pictures I've seen from the other side of the Rift tend to be from high above or below(?) the galactic plane and the whole galaxy just 'hanging there', which fits one bit - but I'm curious about the view from lower down. Where is the darkest point in the Rift? What's above/below that?

Keeping an eye out myself but just approaching the Bridge now. Spending a little more time surveying so movement is slow. There's a large area to the right of the red area on the Most Excellent map that seems impassable with a 32ly limit Asp but it fades out very slowly into long thin corridors of stars where you can't track across just go in/out so it's very ill defined then boom you're stuck. It seems to go up to the welcome badlands area. Someone seems to have crossed it on EDSM but dunno what in

We have been -880 ish beyond that things get a bit thin, However the view looks a lot like @ 0.0, as the galaxy is so far away -800 makes little or no difference to the view ..o7

Cheers - I'm kinda surprised it's clear at the 0.0 layer, the rift seems full of dustiness. maybe it's worse closer to it and the light gets around back there

ah brilliant I hadn't seen those - just wondering what's in that darkest part. it's doing a good job of making the galaxy dark from this side too, but I'll spare everyone the screenshot.

I need someone to help me read between the lines, riddle me this!

What is something the feds, the empire, and galcop wouldn't want anyone to know about and that no one would believe if they were told about. Also its "worse than thargoids"

This has been rattling around in my brain awhile and with drew saying we know the what not the why it's got me thinking...

For now heading back to the bubble. Thunderhorse needs some service and mods. Also space madness kicks in "The rift does not exist, d o e s ... n o t exist" (blasphemy)
.
One last Tinfoil hurray - from Rift to Gap to Chasm ...

  • In Greek mythology, Chaos (Greek: Χάος), according to Hesiod,[1] Chaos ("Chasm")[2] was the first thing to exist: "at first Chaos came to be" (or was)[3] "but next" (possibly out of Chaos) came Gaia, Tartarus, and Eros.[4] Unambiguously born "from Chaos" were Erebus (Darkness) and Nyx (Night).[5]
  • The Greek word "chaos" (χάος), a neuter noun, means "yawning" or "gap", but what, if anything, was located on either side of this chasm is unclear.[6] For Hesiod, Chaos, like Tartarus, though personified enough to have born children, was also a place, far away, underground and "gloomy", beyond which lived the Titans.[7] And, like the earth, the ocean, and the upper air, It was also capable of being affected by Zeus' thunderbolts.[8]

  • For the Roman poet Ovid, Chaos was an unformed mass, where all the elements were jumbled up together in a "shapeless heap".[9]

  • According to Hyginus: "From Mist (Caligine) came Chaos. From Chaos and Mist, came Night (Nox), Day (Dies), Darkness (Erebus), and Ether (Aether)."[10] An Orphic tradition apparently had Chaos as the son of Chronus and Ananke.[11]

  • In Aristophanes's comedy Birds, first there was Chaos, Night, Erebus, and Tartarus, from Night came Eros, and from Eros and Chaos came the race of birds.[12]

Maybe something is in there, since Drew was/is a fan of Ulysses 31 and it is reflected in the Prism systems planet names.
.
Over and out,

Honesty I don't think we know that what is out in the rift is worse than the Thargoids. What the old lady actually says is:

‘Let’s just say there was some serious <profanity> out there, stuff you wouldn’t believe. No really – no one believed me, said it was all a fabrication. I had no proof you see and they edited my memory afterwards. Ah, it’ll all come back to bite them one day, it’s all there in the Imperial databanks somewhere - and they thought the Thargoids were trouble …’

Now the way I'm reading it the stuff that will 'come back to bite them' isn't what was out there in the Rift. What is going to come back and bite them is their having edited her memory. The old lady is planning on making trouble worse then the Thargoids. Whatever is out there in the Rift is going to be used to get her revenge. They thought the Thargoids were trouble ... just wait until the old lady turns Salome loose on them!

Agreed, it wouldn't hurt to drop the thargoid part but the first part still remains. I have my own thoughts but I want to see what other people come up with. It likely wouldn't just be aliens as they are "old hat" ... Been there accidentally killed that.

Well, worse than the Thargoids can only mean humans. Makes sense really, I would look for a station, outpost, asteroid station, or other signs of inhabitants such as Population > 0. Would be easy to exclude that theory by spending some time in the GalMap.

So that Galnet article that was supposed to run over the weekend ... you don't suppose that Frontier pulled a Lucy on Drew do you?

I'm think I will search for the RIG's new home instead.
'The sun is yellow, the sky is an interesting shade of lilac (moving to magenta in the evenings and early dawn) and the water's a steady degree or two below the thermo-neutral range.

It's heaven and we're keeping it to ourselves. You lot can stay in the heart of darkness and revel in victory or slump into the biggest emotional black hole the Galaxy has ever seen. The choice is yours. They're all lying to you, one way or another.'

The only really powerful thing that covers everything, is knowledge.

Do you always wonder why some folks are so lucky? It is because LUCK stands for Labouring Under Correct Knowledge.

Knowledge is power. Passing on knowledge is how we learn and evolve. Whatever we discover out there, I am sure that every faction will want a piece of it, not just for bragging rights, but this knowledge might be able to provide us with some very useful stuff.

That's my take on it.

Rejoyce everyone!

As the UA truly does not unlock the Bovomit sectors, so none will have to make the trip! :D

Those who were always skeptic can have the joy of saying "I told you"
And those who had high hopes can feel emtpy again. (like maybe one other guy I saw earlier posting the same idea)

It was worth the shot :D

BTW at 20,5k Ly away the UA still points towards Merope.
I didn't have the time to translate it's song.

After all it might recite the codeword we have to type into local chat, something like Open up Sesame!

Back to madness, than...

I hope the Galnet post is something we didn't get. The other option is, we were given a hint, only it's so cryptic just a Thargoid can decipher it.

Lottery noumbers until the year 3400 forward?
That'd be so cool...

Good work! Now go back and get a Sap 8 Core Container and give that a try. We'll let you know the next item to try once you've done that! :)

@Kitty I like your take on it... But knowledge of what? No doubt the reveal is coming but I'm hoping for something solid to, in the mean time help narrow the search and answer the why.

I'm personally wondering if it won't be an AI out there. There's plenty of mystery about them and all. if one escaped that would be something the higher ups back home would want to deny. It's also not something people would believe readily... If that's the case though what would we be looking for beyond the rift? A station, a SS, or mysterious ships...

*tinfoil engaged*
Like certain mysterious ships that attacked Salome on her way to Sol? Like a mysterious ship that scanned obsidian? The further down the rabbit hole I stumble I keep finding more questions than answers.

Thanks!
I'll do it soon...for the record I took 1t of meat and medicine in case I met any UFO out there. As a gift. We can get them off the list as well, yeeehaw!

The Old Lady. In the holofac that strikes awd to me is why would she say " your press for time so I'll be quick about it ". Why would she say that since they are not in direct communication. ?

Do it like Noah's Ark, and take 2 of everything. I'm looking forward to the 'Take 50T of wheat to Bovomit sector" CG next fall. Top commanders get a commemorative bobble head doll to put next to their coffee cup.

The actual quote is "I'm guessing you'll be pressed for time so I'll be quick."
