The Formidine Rift - Part 2

An extra fuel tank is totally worth it. Although I'm going to reduce the size of mine and fit a scarab instead.

So I can land on exotic alien worlds and shoot rocks. Sorry to whine but I wish the pace of storyline development would pick up (in general). There's so much the devs could do with this universe and so little happening.

That's because the book was wrapped up over a year before PP was even a thing. Patreus wasn't even a glint in anyone's eye at that time. It was the introduction of PP and Patreus taking over Prism that made the book non-canon at some level and therefore nonsensical. We need a timeline post so folks are clearer as to when story line and game events occurred. Some of the posts have them out of order or are missing how one impacted the other.

I had a go at a complete timeline here (page 4 onwards).

Let me know if anything stands out as being incorrect!

(you can now order Formidine Rifters Expedition tee shirts ; made where I work ; no profit intended to keep prices at the lowest ; here)

Love the shirt... though I'm not quite sure how I'd explain away the rifters logo if anyone asked...

To find what was on the other side?

If the something is so much worse than the Thargoids then why isn't it stomping us already?
We're so insignificant that it hasn't noticed us yet.

Or: it has noticed us, but deems us too insignificant to warrant any action.

Or: it has noticed us, and started something that will make us drop below it's detection treshold, but we cannot (yet) detect what's happening, and maybe we cannot even comprehend what's happening even if we could detect it.

There is an error in the document here:

After taking back Prism, she decides to secede power to Denton Patreus and leave Prism to become Salomé again

Kahina ceded power to her Ambassador, Cuthrick Delaney, not Denton. She dislikes Denton with a passion and is not happy about the PowerPlay sponsored takeover of her home system.

Cheers,

Drew.

I'm not sure it'll help any storyline but just on a matter of principle and for the sake of bubble activities is there a way we can push Prism into being independent and getting him out?

Whoops. Thanks Drew. Had an inkling that was incorrect when I tapped it out... should have taken the time to double-check :)

Considering that the Federation, Empire and Galcop tried to keep info on the Formidine Rift hidden away ... maybe as we get closer there should be news releases from the powers trying to steer people away from the Rift? It would be odd for them to just sit quiet, wouldn't it?

Presumably they are not aware, until you sell your exploration data- then watch out, you may have an INRA hit sqaud armed with mutated Cerberus Plague after you!
:))

Perhaps it has sent us UAs to monitor our activities & disrupt our ships
(still have no idea where the barnacles fit in, except they cure the UA "infection")

No problem. It is an excellent summary, well done! :)

Dark Systems are mentioned in relation to the the Formadine Rift by the old lady (Rebecca??) in the Ferenchia hospital conversation with Salome & the Achenar databank video. Have these actually been implemented in-game?

I ask because the common perception in this thread seems to be that they were indeed planned (as per DB Q&A stream June2014) but have not been implemented; however I can find no canonical statement on that.

All I know about the subject is answered on my FAQ page.

after putting this in the wrong thread...

Most of the pictures I've seen from the other side of the Rift tend to be from high above or below(?) the galactic plane and the whole galaxy just 'hanging there', which fits one bit - but I'm curious about the view from lower down. Where is the darkest point in the Rift? What's above/below that?

Keeping an eye out myself but just approaching the Bridge now. Spending a little more time surveying so movement is slow. There's a large area to the right of the red area on the Most Excellent map that seems impassable with a 32ly limit Asp but it fades out very slowly into long thin corridors of stars where you can't track across just go in/out so it's very ill defined then boom you're stuck. It seems to go up to the welcome badlands area. Someone seems to have crossed it on EDSM but dunno what in

That, sir, is the core of the problem... why did the old woman go to the rift in the first place?

From the book: "I took fancy to going exploring after I lost ...' she paused, a sadness creeping across her face, ' ... had some time to spare. Quiet for the most part, until ...' "

You know, thinking back on it, I don't think that was a chance encounter. There was the bit about the doctor that looked familiar to her but she couldn't pin where she knew him from, and he just happened put her next to the old lady, who just happened to start talking about the Formidine Rift 30 seconds into their conversation...

The lady obviously has a bone to pick about the Formidine Rift and she is described as having a fierce intelligence in her eyes. She wanted Kahina to hear this bit and also get the itch to go exploring... I don't think we've heard the last of the old lady.
