The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I've spotted quite a few "dark" black hole systems on the edge of the rift that I would like to check out tomorrow if I have a chance. Seems to be an odd concentration of them to the east of the H&S nebula.
I know it's the wrong way, but why not!

Will report back.

My spreadheet (in sig) now has "instructions" on how to join in a coordinated hunt.
So far, lots of people are interested, but seem to carry one wandering around semi-aimlessly

Nice job, Domm :) This is definitely what is needed!

Edit - Added link to the first post, specifically targeting that section.

Is there an accepted procedure for searching in system ?

Are people just checking their scanners for unusual stuff or actually flying about in supercruise looking for moving targets?

Is Witchspace doing anything odd? No structures or observers visible I take it?

Am returning from deep space and likely to swing by. Bringing guns.

Doubt I'll need them but you know, hope springs eternal.

I just try to spend a bit of time in the system. Try to scan everything and watch for contacts or signals, but I do admit at first I was using my normal exploring technique of jumping, taking a glimpse at the system, then jumping out. But lately I've been spending a lot of time and cruising.

What have I found?.. So much ice. Definitely have to have patience.

On another note, I find THIS disturbing for whatever reason.

A ua module. That will make the cannon happy. And let them take the UA's all over for testing.

I can't find a way through the rift. Might have to head back out and over to the bridge. I'm really feeling that what we are looking for is on the other side. I'll head towards the bridge and keep an eye out for a way across.

Or interesting. Did anybody spend much time hauling artifacts around in the rift area ? I didn't pay a great deal of attention to them (busy with BGS theory crafting at them time) so I'm fuzzy on some of the experiments performed.

I'm of the opinion we are looking for dead generation ships of some kind. Collateral damage from the Thargoid war. I doubt there will be anything to interact with but you might want to keep an eye out for WSS, SSS or Salvageable wreckage. You might be able to see them in supercruise but I doubt it unless they are Death Star size.

The R R line is a straight line from the area commonly referred to as the "Old Worlds". Sub light ships would no doubt be rubbish at turning.

Only my opinion. I'm not there yet, still 6k core wards but I figure that's going to be my approach to the search.

Any rifters who I don't have in my friends list feel free to send me a request. I play in open so we can all see one another. :) it's nice to know your not alone :)

Not sure what kind of ship you're flying but from your point I ran into certain problems as I was heading too soon into the "west" which looked somewhat obvious from this point. If you see where I'm now

Hypua Eaescs GZ-N b40-0

I went on from your position while keeping in touch to the nearby arm, then straight up into the "North". Star density here is surprisingly good, despite certain zoom levels out of GalMap suggests blackness. Plotting 800Ly routes works almost immediately here.

Anyone of the readers here plotting their course via EDD? I'm roughly following a course of someone who is shaping what seems like a perfect circle to me. What's going on there, just for fun? :D
Or is there something worth to mark... Not sure if I can make the jumps though. The last few trilaterations have wide gaps in between, guess that is for a reason and jumponium required. Other than that, I'm grandmaster of slowness. No one beats me to that. :x
What do you mean by perfect circle? I went around the rift through the bridge, but that sure wasn't perfect, so it won't be me probably. I only trilaterate every 1.000ly though, takes me too much time...

Im in a asp 32,36LY full tank, this is my build, http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/05D4D...20i2f2i.AwRj4yvI.CwBhGYzAmW6kpFKA?bn=Explorer

And I plot my course every time around 1000LY

I travel first to Rho Cassiopeia, then I will travel to the Formidine Bridge and search a way to cross it
I will take a look tomorrow when im again logged in to Elite at your way point

Rho Cassiopeia is near the entrance of the bridge, although it's 880ly below the plane, and very hard to reach. Doubt you will manage with the Asp. You might have a chance if you have premium FSD injection available...

If you're using EDD and open its 3D map you will see it. It's the only thing on the map that comes close to a "perfect circle" and it's obvious. :)
I just asked in hope that the creator of this circle would read this in which case I'm pretty sure he/she knows what's going on. This curse is plotted too regular to be shaped by coincidence.
That's probably a permit area then, like Regor... Those have been investigated, and circles like that were the result. Let me check though...

[EDIT]: Checked. I'm sure that's Bovomit then... Probably was Erimus

Oh my.. this thread is growing quickly.

Just a thought, and the similarities between Ishtar and Kahina I think are really reinforced by her "shedding" of her ship, the Seven Veils, so don't think we should dismiss anything which requires us to compare/equate Salome/Kahina (they ARE the same person right? I thought Drew confirmed that?) to Ishtar. We should probably search Galnet for any mention of people in close relationships with Kahina.

Agreed. The only point I was trying to make previously was that the similarities in the story of Lady Kahina and Ishtar are most likely not a coincidence, and we are being tasked with looking at this mystery/quest in light of that. There is a riddle to be solved within :)

Salomé and Kahina are most definitely the same person this has been confirmed in the Children of Raxxla story by Alessia Verdi. It's a quick (and great) read and a free download: http://childrenofraxxla.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/TheChildrenOfRaxxla-Final.pdf

Drew mentions these stories are 'unofficial' but I would be very surprised if he allowed such a prominent character to be written about falsely.

"topaz suns and amethysts" strikes me as something that needs to chewed on and hasn't yet, the look of the system and it's planets?

Btw what are the colors and names of the associated gates?

There are 7 steps and color transformation stories in east too, but no linking like Kahina to Ishtar and the seven veils.

This is what I found previously linking the ‘seven gates’ to colours and actions:

First Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Violet.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her belt or sandals. By doing this, she relinquishes her Will.

Second Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Indigo.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/ Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her bracelets or jewelled anklets. By doing this, she relinquishes her Ego.

Third Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Blue.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/ Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her robe. By doing this, she relinquishes her Mind.

Fourth Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Green.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/ Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her Breastplate/Breast Cups. By doing this, she relinquishes her Sex Role.

Fifth Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Yellow.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/ Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her starred-rainbow necklace. By doing this, she relinquishes her Illumination.

Sixth Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Orange.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/ Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her earrings. By doing this, she relinquishes her Magic.

Seventh Gate:
The Chakra colour that corresponds to this gate is Red.
The Guardian/Gatekeeper/ Custodian of this gate forces the Goddess to surrender her thousand-petaled crown called a diadem. By doing this, she relinquishes her Godhood.

It was only when the Goddess was completely naked, stripped of her magical powers, defenceless and extremely vulnerable that she could enter the eternal cave-like realm of the Underworld.

From what I can see though, some basic assumptions about the characters involved have been made, which you may wish to reconsider. Remember I am primarily a 'character' writer, I like twists and misdirection.

So far, we haven't really taken into account the red part of the hint yet. Maybe the woman in the holofac isn't telling the (whole) truth or something like that?

This is a fair point - and also means any link between Kahina/Salomé/Ishtar may be no more than an interesting plot point for the character :D

However Drew did suggest we looked into the etymology.

Need to go get some more tinfoil...

Would that be in the IC 1805 cluster? (Which technically should be in the heart nebula from what I've read).

I'll add you in game, when I get home from work. I'm currently somewhere in the heart nebula.

I just wanted to put a quick seed of a thought. Didn't the lore speak of a "dark planet"? has anyone considered looking at Dwarf Star systems? These systems in my opinion would fit the bill of a "dark planet". The dwarfs would still produce a very high level of radiation that could potentially create an Earth-like with a close enough orbit, thick enough atmosphere and a strong magnetic field (not tidally locked?). The dwarf star would provide the heat to provide life to a planet but would not provide light to the planet, hence a "dark planet". Also these are some of the LEAST explored stars in the solar system. Easily overlooked for the fact that they typically do not have anything interesting in them but in the latest exploration video from FD they stated that an Earth-like can appear in any system despite the unlikeliness of it. It may be unlikely but not impossible.

Seems to fit the bill in my opinion.

One last thought..is it not supposed to be "beyond the rift"? thats a lot of brown dwarfs to potentially look through....which will easily be dismissed by a large group.

_____________edit__________

it would also be a good way for FD to get players to explore areas that usually don't get explored

I'm heading out to the Heart & Soul Nebula area tomorrow so I'll probably join in with this, I'll try to resist scanning everything until I get there though. I'm making just about 36 Ly max on this build.

So, fellow Rifters, riddle me this: When is a nebula not a nebula?

When it's an "open cluster." I decided to turn back to the Bubble for a little while, cash in my current discoveries and maybe work on upgrading from the Asp I'm currently using. Wound up in a cluster called NGC 7790. I figured there would be a nebula nearby, but it's just the stars. Wikipedia came to the rescue and told me that NGC 7790 actually exists as it appears in-game. This may not be connected at all, but if anyone is thinking of "veils" referring to nebulae, then it may also include open clusters such as the one I ran into. Just a thought in case you run into any NGC sectors out in the New Galactic Arm with no nebula nearby.

Edit: Also, take a look at the treasure hunt CG for that Jeffress guy. I think there is a connection there too, or with the update on GalNet when it is completed.
