The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Well well!

Here's something you don't see every day!

A LANDABLE TERRAFORMABLE planet, that's a weird green colour! Sitting on it right now and warming the buggy up!

Has anyone read the book, 'Daugther of the Empire'?

According to the plot summary, there are quite a few parallels with Kahina's story (and Arissa's).

It even has an alliance with an insectoid species. ;-)

Drew mentioned that Hassan I think it is comes from somewhere about 400 lyrs away in the Wredguia sector Epsilon Cass / Segin / HD 11415 / HIP 8886, 442 lyr from Sol would fit that. Haven't been there so can't see the system map.

Hummm,,

When I center on Sol in the Galmap in realistic mode and only leave Constellations clicked on, zoomed right in, I can't see Cassiopeiae. When I zoom out or back until I can see Caph the constellation lines have all disappeared. Clear evidence of a conspiracy to conceal Cassiopeiae by Sirius and Universal Cartographics!

or,,,

Could try some lines through some of those and see where they go,,,
Say Eta Cass (hudson shipyard + topaz and aymthysts) -16.25, 1.625, -10.5625 and Segin (possible home of Hassan) according to edsm and ross not visited yet, no coordinates approx -31, 14, -270

Or

How about Sol-Segin, or Sol-Eta Cass?

Segin contains three B-class stars and an airless ice world orbiting the trio at 17 kLs. No population reported, no space stations, no ship activity or signal sources that I could see. There may be some structures on the planet, but I can't land to check.

The constellations option in the GalMap never worked for me... :(

They only really work from the point of view of Sol on the map. You should see them if your point of view is there. However they quickly fade as as you move away. Which is a real shame, as it is fascinating when you see familiar constellations form the side.

AMA question for Drew:

What are the Lotto numbers for the next drawing so I can retire and spend all my time scouring the rift.

edit: queue folks spending a week examining every pixel of that image for clues.

Does anybody know what that bright object is right below "FUEL"?

I can't pin-point it by looking at the galmap. I've tried different angles, and matching it with different stars, but I cant find it.

It may be right in line with the RR line, and it is so bright I can still see it, even when scooping right next to a bright star!

Something in-system, like nearby planet (pair)?

Hi I've been reading this thread for a while lots of interesting ideas, i had the same thought ,there's even mention of a rift ,but I've been unable to find any other links back to ED.

Hopefully someone who has read the books might have a better idea?

Holy smokes! I think it's the H&S Nebulas! ...but why are they shining like that?

It looks very much like NGC7822 Nebula

There is a thick band of O and B class systems at the centre that give it that glow

Ya how could he be from somewhere not colonized, still want to get the coordinates for that place some day. He could be from Sothis or even Alamgest as that was originally billed as the Wredguia Colony Cluster. Almagest is a little under 400 and Sothis a bit under 500. So Sothis it probably is.

I'll have to breakdown and get the book via Amazon (choke, hack, spit), sharing economy my (donkey), serf economy more like it.

By the description of the book, it should be a binary system, one star gives a warm red light, and the other actinic blue. They are nicknamed in the book, but the stars don't really have those names or I had found them already.

It should have at least one earth like or terraformed world, and it will most probably be agriculture, although this last point could be wrong. Most probably it will also have a low population.

I'm not sure though if the book was finished before the full galaxy was opened, so it might then not be entirely accurate...

We should do a roll-call somewhere. I'd love to see where everyone is at when I look at the galaxy map. Maybe list our CMDR names on one page of Dommarraa's spreadsheet?

I would like this as well. I only have a couple people on my friend list in game.

CMDR Aerovoid
current location: Schee Hypue TO-J b15-0 attempting to get to NGC 1491 in the rift.
