The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Common thread: Autolycus - I thought I might be onto something, but his name doesn’t appear to exist anywhere in the game!

If this conclusion is what Drew rep'd LuckyLuke for... then Autolycus might offer a hint. Wikipedia says that the name means, "The Wolf Itself", or very wolf.

Drew's hint about "a little less... nebulous" doesn't say its not a nebula... it says "less" of a nebula. Maybe we can reduce the size of the haystack we are searching in. What if we need to focus on exploring Wolf-Rayet stars?

Here's what a Wolf-Rayet looks like:

With former President Halsey coming out of a coma soon, very closerly mirroring one of the two instances that caused Imperial ships to go on sale, I think it's well worth considering the possibility that if Fed ships don't go on sale, there were meta-game reasons for the multiple Imperial rankless offers: that is, that we should be investigating the Rift in Clippers.
After finishing Drew's book, I decided this most recent trip to the rift should be in a Clipper. Immitating, as close as possible, Salome and Hassan's ship at the end of the book. I've just got across the Bridge and now am starting to pick through some areas over the next week or so. I'm loving this thread too. so much activity on it.

Hey Rifters,

I sent this up to Frontier's community email address two weeks ago and never heard anything back. Maybe someone here has an inside track and could put forth the suggestion? Here's the text of my email to community@frontier.co.uk

I've been thinking about this for a while... an opportunity to really help the Explorer community and also help tie up a loose end left open by Frontier Development from back in February of 2015.

On Feb 7th Galnet announced the return of "Jaques' Station", referencing the android bartender introduced in Frontier: Elite 2. It was understood that the station would move around the galaxy about once a week. The idea seems to have been quickly abandoned though and Jaques has been sitting, apparently forgotten, at Gliese 1269 with no explation as to why the "roaming station" hasn't moved.

So... here's my idea for a community goal:

Jaques has been stranded a Gliese 1269 because the expected tourism trade has failed to supply the station with the credits necessary to purchase the fuel to supply the next jump... but now Jaques is ready to go on the move again! Jaques is asking commanders to deliver Hydrogen Fuel to Jaques' Station in Gliese 1269. The fuel will be used to make the jump so exactly how far out beyond the frontier Jaques will go will be entirely dependent on community involvement in the CG.

For each tier of the CG Jaques would be moved 1,000 lightyears. You guys decide where he moves... though if I my opinion counts I'd really like to see him move in the direction of NGC 7822. Where Jaques moves to will really benefit explorers who will have a temporary base of operations during the duration of his stay.

Is this something you guys can work with?

I just may have found someting interesting.
In de navmap go to

PHROEA HYPA VK-M A34-0

and have a look around.
You will see a small cluster of stars (mostly unscoopable ones) standing out in this part of the map. I'd like to go there but i have a date with my bed.
if its reachable this might be "something" :)

Yea lots of brown dwarf sectors out there,

Check this out on the Galmap TRADGIO AA-A H0, first name is one letter away from spelling out Thargoid.[alien][where is it]

Even more interesting than the book itself in some ways (is case you haven't read it): http://www.drewwagar.com/progress-report/elite-reclamation-the-official-guide/
I'd be willing to wager that jumping around the Rift quasi aimlessly is not the most efficient way to solve this mystery.

Enormous tin foil hat / sombrero :
Kahina - the Berber Kahina of the Auras Mountains - Queen, warrior, priest, considered by the invading Arabs as priestess soothsayer, since they thought she can foresee the future. 700 AD. Her City / Oasis was Ghadames. I guess the useful bit could be the oasis. I.e. a location somewhere in nowhere, or Auras Mountains somewhere that is above the galactic plane? Therefore the galaxy looks like its hanging below (or similar).
.
Auras Mountains - Aura - greek -> AURA was the Titan goddess of the breeze and the fresh, cool air of early morning. She was a virgin-huntress who was excessively proud of her maidenhood. In her hubris she dared to compare her body with that of the goddess Artemis, claiming that the goddess was too womanly in form to be a true virgin. Artemis sought out Nemesis (Retribution) to avenge her dignity, and as punishment, Aura suffered      at the hands of Dionysos. This crime drove her to madness and in her fury she became a ruthless, slayer of men. When her twin sons were born, Aura swallowed one whole, whilst the second was snatched to safety by Artemis. Zeus then transformed her into a stream (or perhaps her namesake breeze "aura").
.
In this context : Leto was one of the female Titanes , a bride of Zeus, and the mother of the twin gods Apollon and Artemis. In Greek vase painting Leto was usually depicted as a woman lifting her veil in a gesture of modesty. She was usually depicted accompanied by her two children. (a sun with two planets?, a star and two smaller stars?)
.
Autolycus - pretty interesting find. He was a Greek astronomer, mathematician, and geographer. He described the movement of celestial bodies using spheres. He wrote that "any star which rises and sets always rises and sets at the same point in the horizon." Autolycus relied heavily on Eudoxus' astronomy and was a strong supporter of Eudoxus' theory of homocentric spheres. Following this you end up with Eudoxus home town, Cnidus, where this was found, a carving of a labyrinth:

Well, Drew said Kahina's names history plays a role, but seems its a dead end. Then LuckyLuke got rep for mentioning the star names in the Prism system. Not sure if he got rep for the mythology part or Autolycus. Question is does the info around Kahina's name plays a role or should we now focus on the Greek part?

have we had rifters that did take it upon their self to wander around -21000 till -23000 on the border

within a hour I will be at PHRAE HYPAE TA-I C12-0

Wowsers... I got a rep from Drew for my post yesterday: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=239212&p=3717426&viewfull=1#post3717426

If only I knew which bit he was repping for :S

I think it might mean that we should follow the line in the opposite direction.
  • We can assume that the old lady in the book didn't tell the whole truth; the Reorte-Riedquat line could actually be a Riedquat-Reorte line.
  • Wouldn't this take us more core-wards? (Core of the problem?)
  • LuckyLuke followed hints from Galnet for his theory, and Drew said all the information is in the game / on Galnet.

So, if we followed the opposite direction, is there anything that could qualify as a rift? Can anyone make a map with the R/R-line extending in both directions and including Reorte, Riedquat, Prism, Sol, Avalon & Achenar?

Core systems is a much used phrase as well. It can mean Sag A* or the core systems from beta or the core systems like lave, diso & leesti from the original game or Sol, Achenar and the rest. Still a more limited search area than the rift.

The rift might not have a heavy ratio of stars compared to further in but it is 1000's of LY across!

...We can assume that the old lady in the book didn't tell the whole truth; the Reorte-Riedquat line could actually be a Riedquat-Reorte line...

To be fair, her memory had been tampered with. She could have been telling the truth as she knew it.

The talk about the "galaxy hanging there" suggests it's still near the edge of the galaxy though. That's a powerful image - hard to imagine how that could be corrupted by the memory alterations.

we are searching for a alien race that is worser then the Thargoids but I think we are wrong her mind was altered so it must be a sort of secret joint venture of the Empire & Federation that they have set up far away of the bubble a sort of area 51 were they experiment,
and that she means the human race is more trouble then the Thargoids

"Let's just say there was some serious sh** out there, stuff you wouldn't believe. No really - no one believed me, said it was all a fabrication. I had no proof you see and they edited my memory afterwards. Ah, it'll all come back to bite them one day, it's all there in the imperial databanks somewhere - and they thought the Thargoids were trouble ..."

Have the possible Alice in Wonderland references been mentioned before? Kahina has said she doesn't like being late and there's a few references to making a fuss. In Alice in Wonderland there's the song I'm Late, sung by the White Rabbit and also Painting the Roses Red which is sung by the Queen's minions (the Ace, 2 and 3 of clubs) which has the verse:
Cards: The Queen she likes 'em red
If she saw white instead,
Two: She'd raise a fuss
Ace: And each of us
Cards: Would quickly lose his head

Can anyone put two and two together on this and come up with a system or an area in the galaxy or am I just clutching at straws here?
