The Formidine Rift - Part 2

The epliogue to the book (where she watches the old lady's video) begins with the words "AD 3301". So she got the coordinates to the rift last year sometime, and it is at least possible. However, she accessed the video in an Imperial databank, and I think Sol is Fed. Could have happened on her visit to Achenar?

Ahhh I see. I'm at work to can't check the book. Oh well.
So I suppose we still don't know 100% that she has been to the rift yet.

Mmm, sorry but it was a medallion (not an amulet) that she left with her senatorial tiara. Many people have assumed that it was related to the Dark Wheel & Children of Raxxla, but I think that assumption is incorrect. In the book (Drew's Elite:Reclamation) Salome met the old lady (& heard for the first time about the Formadine Rift) in the hospital on Ferenchia where she received her space innoculations, & then she got a fake ID bracelet from Canos in the spaceport. I think her leaving both tiara and medallion (bracelet?) behind only implies that she has decided henceforth to be her own person & independent of the strictures of her previous life.

It may be relevant that Imperial attire involved (page 49) "flowing robes of rich colours, thick and heavy medallions" and jewel encrusted tiaras were a new fad. So the medallion could also be an Imperial emblem but the exact phrasing of the Galnet article was "Lady Kahina’s Imperial tiara was found in the cockpit, along with a small medallion bearing an ancient symbol on one side and the word ‘Salomé’ on the other" which would indicate it was the ID bracelet rather than an Imperial medallion (which would have said "Kahina" & had the Imperial symbol, rather than "Salome" which was the name Hassan gave her when she had lost her memory & couldn't remember who she was). I think the symbol could then be either the Pilot Federation or Independent (Ferenchia was Independent but friendly to Empire). I have not found anywhere in the book that she received any other medallion or bracelet.

On his site, Drew posts a picture of the fan-art symbol of the Dark Wheel with the caption "The Dark Wheel emblem found in Kahina’s Vessel".

Nice point. It could have been even before Sol trip though. She was interdicted there by the unidentified ships, so perhaps someone did not like her accessing the data.

At the end of the book after handing over her powers I thought kahina handed her tiara to Luko. I may have to re read that part agane.
What do we know about the time line? Maby the events at the very end of the book, with the recording, happened when kahina went to sol?

Drew? :)

You're correct! she hands the tiara to Luko on page 1142 "Something to remember me by. She (i.e. Salome) won't need it, will she?"

Mmm, had forgotten that, though Drew said that design is fan-created so presumably not canon lore. So is his sebite summary?
Drew- we need clarification please!

The events in the Epilogue are many months after the closing chapter of Reclamation (which finished in 3300). The epilogue is set in around June 3301 and Kahina/Salomé was on Achenar at the time.

Cheers,

Drew.

What I want to know is, with all the clues available to us, I mean, discovered or not, but available immediately. Can we accurately found what we are looking for?
For example, if what we seek is in a specific system, can we obtain the coordinates of this system with the clues?
I am literally about to burn my brain. [noob]

All. I have spoken with Ed and made him aware that there are plans to form a Rift expedition. If you do decide to go en mass I'm pretty sure you will get a very positive reaction from Ed, he's very keen to support these in-game events. There may be some hints in the livestream this evening and it's been confirmed that Salomé herself will be at Beagle Point. If instancing allows she should be in the livestream with Ed at some point.

Right on, Commanders.

Cheers,

Drew.
Will those of us already in or near the Rift have to return to the Bubble to join any official expedition?

Ah damn it... I have no ideas on where to look at.

Thinking of going little "south" from Formidine Rift to some nebula and look for barnacles there, maybe can find some clue...

Next time i go on such journey, i'll make sure i take 2 items: UA and Trinket of Hidden Fortune. Just for luck.

EDIT: Added some interesting Dark Wheel connected photos of bulletin board found on Google.

The "official" (in as far as anything can be official) expedition has started, see the spreadsheet. There is no start time or place, the end time and place is when What We Seek is discovered. It isnt quite like DWE as the basic principle is to stay out of sight of everyone else.

Man I hope this doesn't become another Distant Worlds thing, I came out here because I heard there was something out here. That should be more than enough to motivate any true explorer. Most explorers wouldn't even need that much encouragment. Just the realization that beyond the horizon there are worlds of such unimaginable beauty in a galaxy chalked with mystery would be enough to set any explorer's engines towards the stars.

I know of more than a few commanders who went to the distant worlds, and never came back, the blood of the wanderer was not in them, and they gave up when the realization of how long it would take them to once more lay eyes on their homeworld would take. Beagle Point has always been the Everest of Earth how many people once clambered to get to it's top so many in fact, that experienced explorers no longer wished to partake in these excursions. Once a thing has become common it loses it's mysterious luster. Sure you have those who are genuinely interested in the adventure, but there are still those who will do it because it has become the 'cool thing' to do, these latter ones are the ones hearts will falter as their passion may have truly laid with their destination, but not within the journey to get there. Once you go beyond the edge of the colonies of our species, and you are confronted with the enormity of eternity you begin realize just the true definition of the word loneliness. One can not help but feel magnanimity towards those who experience this for the first time, and only hope that they have the ability to survive the abyss.

It is the knowledge that where we go, no one else has gone before, each system that we blow our trumpets in, each planet that we place our feet upon, we can be assured that we are the first ones who sang our hymns upon bearing witness to Celestia. It is those who only worry for the outcome and not the adventure in getting there who are blind to her beauty and grace, the goddess of all things, it is they who will not be ready for the ravages of isolation and it is they who will stagger and fall as the presence of Celestia is all that will accompany them once they leave the bubble, and if they can not even recognize that, then they truly have nothing. See first how many return from the distant worlds 'expedition' and see how many have fallen to space dementia. For I know already, that not all will return, their souls have left them having reached their destination their goal, the one thing that kept them going. They could not fathom the return journey. And so only their apparitions are left, to eternally haunt these desolate halls, these corridors of unspeakable beauty, as though they were the petals of a cosmic flower... the galactic core, it's ovule.

I think many of us are already rift wards.

Thanks Drew. This means that Kahina had not watched the holofac yet, when she visited Sol.

Interesting.

Yes. Timeline clarification is very useful. So Lady Kahina's visit to Capitol after Sol could potentially be the same one that is reported in the epilogue of ER?

Page 1142, what book are you talking about? My copy of 'reclamation' has 371 pages... [where is it]

Ah, sorry-I've got the ebook which says 1142 of 1229 cos I have it landscape format. If I turn it to use portrait format the page count changes to say 652 0f 703

Mmm, then maybe we should ask Qohen Leth to change his Formadine Rifters logo to say "Exploration" rather than "Expedition"? ;)

I can't wait to watch this... Unfortunately it will have to wait until saturday... Real life... (sigh)
This kind of "long term mystery" (UA, Barnacel, Rift, Generation Ships, what else?) is one of the things I like most in ED.

Ok I need to ask this.

Drew has said that we dont need the book or anything else except the Galnet articles.
Not once does it seem that the Formidine Rift is mentioned in the Galnet.

So... Why are we searching it ?

I think Drew was pointing out that whatever is out there can be stumbled upon randomly. Just because we don't need "the book or anything else" does not preclude that they aren't helpful. He also stated that one of the reasons that we don't need the book is because all of the relevant clues have been posted on the internet. Hence we don't need the book because there are no additional clues from the book that haven't been disclosed via other channels.

Cheers.
