The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Hitler? That's a bit over-the-top don't you think?

But Gandhi isn't over the top? They were both just trying to do the best they could as they saw it for their people and both got millions of people killed which men on a mission usually do. Beware demagogues no matter what the strip, the extremes polarize and push out the middle and odds are they are both wrong.

Also her namesake Al Kahina, that wasn't a complement, it's calling someone an evil witch fit for the fire.

I see Kahina as being closer to Paul Atreides from the "Dune" saga by Frank Herbert. Not the David Lynch movie version. The actual version from the book. In describing the difference between the Paul of the movie and the Paul of the novels Frank Herbert said, "I have my quibbles about the film, of course. Paul was a man playing god, not a god who could make it rain."

Paul (and his mother) deliberately manipulate the course of events to conveniently insert himself into the lore of the Fremen in order to achieve his own goals which included revenge. I think Kahina has allowed herself, as Salome, to be inserted into certain elements of galactic lore in order to achieve her own ends and, if other people happen to benefit along the way, that is okay with her. She is neither angel nor devil. She plays the role of underdog very well in a way that gets the public to root for her in-spite of themselves. She still possesses many traits that come from being raised as a "spoiled imperial lady" but, being only in her mid twenties and considering all she has been through, is metamorphosing into something more. Where the future takes her, and us, is anyone's guess.

The grave, it's always the grave.

I'm thinking maybe all these spokes of the dark wheel folk are connected in name only and know as much about it as modern druids know about historical druids and have simply swiped the name and just fake it all up.

If it's all just to get even with Patreus that would be pretty trivial. Why does she care about Prism so much anyway. If I recall they had only been there three years. Did they really just up sticks and abandon the old the family seat, in Dune they didn't leave Calaban for squatters to move in. How can she be so unfamiliar with space travel unless she traveled to Prism as frozen spam which seems unlikely for a person of her class. We don't know what the luxury cabins are like perhaps they're meant to isolate you from the facts of space. Perhaps like Dune it was all a setup to wipe the family out from the beginning.

The other power are all pretty awful each in their own special way, at least she offers hope and change "Make the Galaxy Great Again".

Being fictional she's got a chance.

I imagine it was from the Warrior Queen/Priestess of the Berbers Kahina .... No Ninja Gandhi Hitlers needed ;)

But she is on the path of enlightenment now ... the vanishing of the veil, and all that.

Anyone else notice an excess of alliteration in the Drew Galnet posts ? I am thinking there might be a code there... but haven't had any luck

I can not say exactly where the limit for a 7ly fsd range would be, but I can say that the stars thin out enough that you'd probably be a couple hundred ly away from the Orion-Perseus gap using a 7ly fsd range. In any case, I want to be clear that I am not trying to dissuade you from attempting your own trip along the R/R line as I am just following a line preceded by many before me as well. I am trying to figure out what exactly does the R/R line point to. According to the maps I have looked at, the Formadine Rift is on the other side of the Perseus arm and it can't be reached going in a straight line using R/R as your compass, confusing as this seems to me. But, it may be that the R/R line can be reacquired once you cross the Orion-Perseus gap and from there head toward the rift using the R/R line until the stars thin out.

Or it is just a path to the gap and the Formadine Rift used by explorers because it has that fabulous lighthouse of Rho Cassiopeia and once at the gap you have to find your own way through to the Rift.

Hmm, IIRC the "Poseidal wall", the thinnest starred region of the rift, is actually right in front of the Orion arm. It is the first thing we hit. Even on galaxy map, there seems to be again some stars after this segment before further thinning out towards the Perseus arm. I know, I haven't been there yet, but it would seem logical to me, that the starred region IN the rift could be what we search for. Especially, when the comments on actually crossing the whole gap between the arms has been vague.

OK maybe a stupid question, but how does one calculate the distance and degrees from R/R line? EDSM doesn't seem to have anything like this. People using their own tools and code?
I have calculated a vector I count every 1kLy position at. I used the two reported coordinates in the OP and also more vague eyeballed coordinates from galaxy map. At the moment I follow the more accurate coordinates.

Very interesting read about Kahina.

Cant help but notice she is called the "Dreadlocked" Queen... (She was famous for her do...)
"Dread" in latin... is "Formidine"

Maybe we have been looking at this in the wrong light? Looking for the word "Lock" in Latin I see "Coma" among many.

There are quite a few astronomical objects with "Coma" at the start... "Coma Berenices" comes to mind.

Interesting.

Stupid question...

Is this RR line being drawn in 3D? IE - not just the X and Y axis, but also the Z axis?

Z...

R and R have the same Z, so it is parallel with the Galactic Plane. Personally I am just ignoring Z. At 10 Kylie out a few hundred either way makes no difference, it is only a pointer after all (and a pointer to the Rift not to the target!)

The Formidine Sheet does all of that. If you want to make a local copy to use yourself, I have no way of stopping you, but contributing would be nicer.

I think you meant the Y axis m8.

Haha, well, I'm flying a nearly fully stripped-down Anny, al-la Buckyball style. You'll want a ship with at least 40.5ly jump capability

You'll need, to get there and back: 18 J3 injections, 2 J2s, and 8 J1s. Have fun, and don't jump to an unscoopable ;)

I saw someone say that they tried jumping to it from above in only a 78-79ly jump range, and that they thought it wouldn't be possible until the Engineers Update. So, what I did was I just looked in the GalMap at Rho Cassiopeiae and started working my way backwards from it going down and then back up, being confident that there was a route there, and calculating distances with the ol' a^2+b^2=c^2 to estimate distances using the grid. I'm estatic to know that my route worked! ^_^

So, thank you to whoever thought it wasn't probable to reach Rho Cassiopeiae until the next update, THAT MOTIVATED ME. :p

Thanks again for the waypoints.. To clarify though do you mean J1 = 25% J2 = 50% and J3 = 100% or the other way around? Just checking before I head out!

Also, with the distances you jumped did you make those jumponium jumps easily or were some "just making it" - asking as I'll be carrying an SRV to check that planet out.
.
Also, also.. Did you happen to see what gravity the planet had? :)

I would be careful about using that quote for anything. The published version in "And Here the Wheel" omits the first two sentences, so it doesn't mention the rift at all. The Formidine Rift isn't mentioned by name in that book at all.

From John Harper:
I'll have to check. There was some last minute editing which I wasn't privy to. In regards to the quote though, If I remember correctly the 'Admiral' is having a Roy batty moment, listing several related but different things. The "unmarked graves to the horizon" is not in the Formidine Rift, rather the Formidine Rift is another of those things that he has seen

I think Kahina has allowed herself, as Salome, to be inserted into certain elements of galactic lore in order to achieve her own ends and, if other people happen to benefit along the way, that is okay with her. She is neither angel nor devil.

Let's not forget - whilst she had memory loss, she was far closer to her true 'self' - which faded a bit once she regained her memory as Kahina. However that experience allowed Kahina to understand who she could really be. I think the act of shedding the role of senator and identity as Kahina and returning to Salomé tells us she is letting go of some of her previously held ideals and seeking new ones. This isn't to say she doesn't retain some of her political leanings... just maybe in a different way now.

From John Harper:

Ohhh... that's telling. I'd always thought the whole of that evocative quote was about the rift.

Should be noted that sources for the Cobra Courier and SuperCobra are all non-canonical. I don't want to lead folks down the wrong tangent.

Regardless, if the old woman's Cobra was an Apocalypse Engineering model or not, we currently assume Kahina was able to visit the rift and see whatever it is to be seen there in her Clipper? Or even in the Asp Explorer she is currently flying.

A quick look at the timeline, the only time she could have visited the rift in the Clipper is some time between 6 May 3301 and 21 Jul 3301. After which the Clipper was found abandoned at Capitol spaceport on Achenar. After that I presume she was flying the Asp?

I'd love to know what Salomé has been doing since she disappeared in July last year up until now...

OK, just checking. I was away from the game, so unable to check..

Z..

I want to comeback on this wat Drew have said : Erimus' position for the Formidine Rift is broadly correct as per the map on this thread, so you are in the right area.
wat is then wrong on this map checklist :

the map is a screenshot from game check correct.

I have travel myself this route check Poi points on the map and the Formidine bridge and far bridge are correct
that means only where Erimus have placed the Formidine rift is not correct. Im myself think that the Formidine Rift is between the Far bridge and Formdine bridge that start nearby Rho Cassiopeia.
And that we should concentrate how to get acces to the Bovomit systems.

wat we can do a expedition to the Bovomit with a UA , Meta alloy and ai artifact

Sorry, I see no logic in your argument. You seem to be saying "I have been to some unrelated places that are not in the Rift, so the Rift is in the wrong place".

You can search where you like, but you seem to be totally ignoring the RR Line clue
